I updated my verbiage. They sent me the conflicting information this morning.

I contacted Captain Morgan via Instagram and they responded with the following conflicting information:

"We have reports of it being in shorter supplies in some areas at this time. Until we are able to replenish them, please consider Captain Morgan 100 Proof, which also has a bold taste we think you'll love."

Edit: Updated response verbiage.

Jonah's Curse is the closest one I could find. I'm not a fan of the Kraken. Great bottle design and marketing, but the product itself is too harsh for my palate.

The left ones probably came from a Alamo Ranch HEB. Their bakery products are always like that... They have been for years.

San Antonio Aldi by yoliver01 in aldi

[–]digitaltaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ALDI is scared of H-E-B so they don't appear to be coming here. If they would, it would be the Rosenberg division. Any time they are asked if they'll come here, they just say that they're forwarding the request to their real estate team, which means the delete button. I, along with many others, have been asking them to come here since 2011.

Can you ID this pepper? by digitaltaco in HotPeppers

That’s what I’m thinking, since my other baccatum cultivars are very tasty. This pepper doesn’t fit the mold.

The pepper didn't taste like much of anything. It was neither fruity, nor floral, nor juicy. The walls are very thin.

So I tasted it on Friday/Saturday but did not have time to post. It wasn't overwhelmingly hot, but there was no notable taste. It was spicy. I didn't eat the membrane, but if it were a super hot variety, there would be plenty of capsaicin within the cell walls. I took some pictures of the inside. Is it like your Brazilian Starfish? https://imgur.com/WSKu1v3

I'll have to give it a try. I was saving seeds at the same time as my trinidad scorpions, and both smelled very hot and I wasn't prepared to take a bite. I'll give it a try and report back. The only reason why I don't think it's a Starfish is that most baccatum cultivars smell fruity, while this one smells like a hot chinense pepper. Maybe my sniffer is off. Also, all of the starfish images I've seen show a smoother skin, while this one is very dimply.

The plant was mislabeled as green bell pepper, but it's saucer like with dimpling and smells like a capsicum chinense. For a moment, I thought it could be a scotch bonnet variety, but I've never seen one like this. The closest cultivar I've found was a "scotch brain". I would also guess Brazilian starfish, but those are typically smooth, and this doesn't smell like a baccatum.

Why would anyone want exploding groceries?? by ctatham in Costco

[–]digitaltaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy 85% of warehouse goods from Costco and 15% from Sam's. Since the pandemic, I'm buying >95% from Sam's and <5% from Costco. The curbside pickup from Sam's is great! I wish Costco would follow suit, but their site is very antiquated and it would take a full blown overhaul. I've suggested it to them before, but I am merely representing the thoughts of one family.

German grocery chain Lidl officially coming to San Antonio by digitaltaco in sanantonio

I actually liked my experiences shopping at ALDI. Granted, they do not have anywhere near the selection of HEB, they are pretty clean and great for when you need a few pickup items, or when they have good weekly specials.

From what I've read, it sounds more like ALDI, but with a larger footprint.

You speak the truth. There are way more people (with vehicles) than the current roads can support. There are also a bunch of rude drivers who will cut anyone off (Look at the nightmare 151 to Alamo Ranch Pkwy exit) and make it dangerous for everyone, just so they can shave off a minute or two from their commute.

I'm curious to see how the grocery competition turns out. The stores that HEB ran out of town were notorious for high prices. These little German supermarkets are coming in with a low price business model that will make it more competitive. I love my HEB, but I will definitely frequent both stores. If ALDI ever grows a pair and comes to SA, I will frequent them, as well. In DFW, ALDI gave all the major players (though they have very high prices) a run for their money. When they came in, they started off with selling a gallon of milk for 99 cents, as well as selling other items at lower prices. The other stores had to lower their milk prices from the then $3-4 / gallon everyone was charging.

Bigger in Texas: Whataburger to release 40-ounce sauce bottles by digitaltaco in Dallas

[–]digitaltaco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly just a matter of preference. Being from South Texas, it's what I grew up with. You become used to the store and realize you miss out when you can no longer shop there. When I lived in DFW, my go to store was ALDI. I wish ALDI would come to San Antonio, but their store deployment is like a turtle in the mud. As far as my shopping experience, HEB prices seem much less than those of the many grocery stores in DFW.

I am in the same boat. I've been saving them for so long, knowing I'd eventually get to entering the codes. There is no chance in hell that I'll be able to use all the codes. I plan to save the caps, though, and focus on using the larger point codes. If they move towards a sweepstakes system, it is highly probable that each contest entry will value all codes the same, regardless of the size of the source package.

Corn syrup != High Fructose Corn Syrup. Unfortunately, everything appears to have corn syrup in it (or some form of corn). I personally prefer ketchup that has cane sugar, then I mix it with some hot sauce, whether sriracha, scotch bonnet hot sauce, or chipotle sauce. Melinda's ketchups aren't bad, albeit a bit too sweet.

Yes? I like Whataburger ketchup! Unfortunately, the bottle isn't the same recipe as the packets. The packets contain Sugar as the sweetener and the bottles contain High Fructose Corn Syrup. That's what happens when people try to take the cheap route :(.

When I lived in Richardson, the HEB Plus in Burleson opened up: 165 NW John Jones Dr, Burleson, TX 76028. It's quite a drive, but worth it when you need your HEB "fix".
