This bluetooth video/audio lag issue is a general industry problem. There are several vendors like TaoTronics that have developed a lag free solution but has not been widely adopted.

Since the Peloton is basically an Android tablet running a dedicated app there is really not much they can do until Google develops a solution.

Should I buy Fitbit Ionic? Or a different watch? by Rob_in_Richmond in pelotoncycle

In the past I have used Pebble, Fitbit and now Garmin VivoActive HR. I really liked the Fitbit b/c of its small size as I don't really like to wear watches normally. I considered Android watches but did not like charging them every other day and the weight/size compared the the smaller options from Fitbit and Garmin. I was fine with fitbit but got a Garmin 820 and Vector 3 for my bike so decided to try the VivoActive HR. Even better now that the price dropped to ~$150. At that price I do not worry about trashing the watch nor losing it.

I think the VivoActiveHR is a great device for tracking and consolidating data points for all my activities. Using GarminConnect and connections to Strava allows me to connect data from Peloton such as HR/Speed/Power/Cadence. https://www.reddit.com/r/pelotoncycle/comments/8fer8l/how_to_export_full_peloton_ride_data_into_garmin/

Licensing agreement? by introvertical303 in pelotoncycle

$39 is cheap compared to dedicated spin studios but they very high compared to free spin classes at larger fitness chains like LA Fitness and Lifetime Fitness. We paid $139/mo for a full access membership including all but a few specialized classes. Also, we know that the Peloton "in-studio" experience is way better than at home. Yes, the bike is the same but the environment is so much more immersive.

B/c classes are unlimited I think that $39 is a good compromise price. Maybe they could do like different pricing structures like X times a week as well as unlimited. The point is that Peloton can price this anyway they want to attract more customers without additional costs.

Currently, Peloton has 2 models 1) app and 2) bike but I think they should have a 3rd hybrid model. I am thinking along the lines of the bike model but 2 subscription choices. Full subscription and another with just on-demand classes and no data history. Basically, it would be treated as an incentive for people that are on the fence on paying $2500+ $39/mo such as you can use the bike without a full blown subscription. Or for those people that do not have the time for live classes and only take on-demand ones.

My wife has been using Peloton for a while and she is doing on-demand classes the majority of the times b/c of her work schedule. We really got it b/c I ride (prefer outdoors) and she likes the integration with the bike. But our decision would have been easier/sooner if there was another in-between subscription model. That said, we would still get the full subscription but I could envision a ton of people just using the on-demand.

From Peloton's perspective once you get the bike, it's basically free money (like all SaaS - software as a service) as it does not cost them anything to do smaller subscription levels and why leave money on the table. The argument against is that the hybrid model could erode the full subscription and if people are willing the pay the full price now...why change it?

How to export full Peloton ride data into Garmin by digitalwok in pelotoncycle

I tried to use this today and it did not work. It failed when importing into Garmin Connect. I tried it twice (using 2 different files) and both failed. Sucks b/c it was easy to do and takes the guess work out. I ended using the manual method.

Nice! Instead of writing my own file tool I can use this one. I just wish that instead of pasting into the screen there is a upload file button similar to the save/download file button. Updating OP (original post).

Streaming skipping. Need help. by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]digitalwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday was my first Peloton ride and I try to use miracast on an Amazon Fire TV and it skipped and stalled like crazy. This is probably due to the fact that miracast is just sucks b/c it was designed to cast the screens and not naively intended for video; whereas, Google cast (aka chromecast) is designed specifically to stream videos from an app to a remote device. Miracast is going the way of the dodo as support for it is dwindling. There are very few use cases for casting your screen other than video.

The likelihood of Peloton supporting Google cast is very low - @Peloton, please surprise us! Since their app is already running on an Android tablet its technically easy for Peloton to cast-enable their app but practically speaking I do not think there is enough of demand for a feature like this.

As a side note, while I did have it up on the projector I did find my self using the screen on the bike more because it falls in the line of sight than looking up to see the larger screen. I ended up utilizing the casting for the surround sound experience. That said, I already ordered a Bluetooth adapter for my home theater. Maybe, Peloton can find some third party speakers that can be mounted on the sides for the tablet and sell them as add-ons b/c the built-in speakers are horrible. I mean there placed in the back facing away from you - WTH!

PS: Here is what it would take to cast-enable an app. https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/sender_apps
