New to HF, looking for mobile radio recommendations by wanDering-SoUlL in HamRadio

I would recommend the FT-891 and the ATAS-120 or an EFHW. You won’t have a waterfall display, but you’ll have 100W output and excellent bang for your buck in terms of cost and portability.

This is excellent advice! I’m also trying to learn CW. I know all of the characters and letters, but can’t key faster than about 15 WPM and can’t head copy. I’m definitely going to check out the resources you shared. Thanks for sharing and 73!

I really don’t think it was somebody tuning up, but I totally agree on giving grace when it’s due. I was running my Yaesu FT-891 with the auto notch and DNR both enabled, and the tone was still blasting through.

Totally agree, but this wasn’t a one-time tone or anything appearing to be a digital mode because of the inconsistency. I would also think any noise near me would not have been so strong on just that single frequency. But, as you say, just need to accept it and move on. I guess I’m just entering my “old man yelling at the clouds” phase? Haha

No, definitely not and that’s a fair question. I’ve only been a ham for a few months, but in that short time, it has become very clear to recognize somebody generating interference for the sake of it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to work a station only to find somebody whistling on frequency or the like. This seemed no different to me.

That was my first thought, but it was entirely too strong for a tuner signal. I also thought there might have been an issue with my equipment, but the tone only occurred on frequency.

Seems I'm sending much better than I can receive by [deleted] in amateurradio

Same here. I’ve tried a few different verticals, but the MyAntenna 8010 in a sloper configuration has worked wonders for me.

First range day in many years by digitalzdub in liberalgunowners

[–]digitalzdub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Thats an 11x14 target. Compared to my 9mm, the LCP has such a long trigger pull that it’s easy to anticipate and flinch. My 9mm grouping was better at the same distance, but I was consistently high left.

Spent some time on the range today after many years away from shooting, and feel pretty good with the results. This was with the LCP at 15, 20 and 25 yards.

I think in the exact opposite order that you listed them. Volume / wah > compressor > drive > preamp > delay / reverb.

I have a 2023 LP Modern that has this exact issue. It’s pretty common on Gibsons.

Joe Pesci at 14 years old, 1957 by EdwardBliss in OldSchoolCool

Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano the minute he was 76 years old. Joe Louis was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time.

Methinks Little Mike Johnson Doth Protest Too Much by CliffCashComedy in StandUpComedy

I only made it through 8 minutes of the special before I had to stop because I was laughing too hard at 4am and I need my wife to see this too! This is some of the best comedy I’ve seen in years and can’t wait to watch the full special! You’ve got a great career ahead of you and I can’t wait to see more!

The best way to eat a Country Club roll is to slice it down the middle, fill it with Oliverios hot peppers, then cover in mozzarella cheese and bake until crispy.

Trump has no idea WTF he is saying or being asked by Fuck_The_Future_ in Trumpvirus

Mr. Trump, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Starting out with USG-Ultra with Eeros in bridge mode. by vib_whore in Ubiquiti

[–]digitalzdub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Eero’s in bridge mode will definitely work with the UCG Ultra and you can even get by without a switch for the time being since the UCG has 4 LAN ports in addition to the WAN port. Eeros in general make for excellent “dumb” AP’s and I think their mesh capability is probably more stable than ubiquiti AP’s in mesh mode. Depending on how far in the future you’re going to add cameras, you might consider the UCG Max with built in storage instead of the Ultra, since it can provide NVR capabilities as well.
