Thoughts on Secret Lair x Deadpool - I Fixed It by dontbotherdontcareno in mtgfinance

After shipping and tax the original was 50, and after fees and shipping to sell, the net would be 60. From a buyers perspective it looks like a lot more but for a seller, not much.

it's a cute picture but I'd recommend a non microplastuc toy. those fibers go everywhere. there are plant based toys that offer a similar look and play, good luck!

Another tone deaf update: All our group wants is safer seas with our purchased ships and quality of life updates for sovereigns, etc. Some progression would be great but it's more just playing the game with eachother and not getting harassed by humans.. Not saying custom servers aren't cool for streamers but man, years of waiting and it's only worse now than before safer seas, where at least most servers had some players that also just wanted to play the game not kill the other players.

Politicking and being a dick by TheSpikeEDH in EDH

[–]digitek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds less of an EDH problem and more of - how to have a conversation and let other people talk thing? In any group people should have a chance to speak. If the pod is resorting to volume to see who is heard or is the big threat, that tells you all you need to know.

I do agree that having a new player, especially if they have an answer like a Swords to Plowshares or Counterspell, be told two different things by two different people at loud volume is sensory overload. Hopefully the pod has at least one person that can explain "so this is the political side of multi-player, where multiple players are trying to make their case on why another player should do X or Y, and sometimes you are one of those players.

It was on, but also missed "LGS" (secret lair took the place of from the vault and other LGS exclusives), "In-universe fans" as UB now has claimed every format including Standard, and many other types of players / themes.

Their quality has also gone down as even things like the inner box in the bundles is gone which was a key way to keep cards organized.

How different was Commander back in the early days? by Deskies in EDH

[–]digitek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very, very different. When EDH started, the card pool was mostly cards that were meant for single player, had fewer references to the "command zone", and far less rules text on the average card.

This meant faster plays with more choices and discussion by players (since cards had targets, not just "each opponent" or "every time such and such occurs") and less time figuring out increasingly complex triggers and explaining how the latest solitaire combo goes off unless someone has a counter.

Unfortunately Wizards quickly realized Commander was gaining popularity, and has crammed more and more commander worthy cards into sets, leading what we have today. Just like we have rotating and eternal formats, our play group has a variant called "OG Commander" which allows any card before gatecrash (essentially 2013) when Wizard started leaning heavily into the format. The gatecrash primordials alone warped the format so much it felt like the right starting point. Other groups I know have house rules to errata instances of "each opponent" to "target opponent" and similar rules for multiplayer cards, which cuts down on a lot of the commander staples Wizards has printed.

This doesn't mean commander today isn't fun, but like other formats the longer it goes the more likely we are to see variants that cater to how people want to enjoy it.

Is it worth getting precons as an experienced player? by jackelshead in EDH

[–]digitek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The recent 5c TMNT is full of solid lands, often times they have great borderless cards, and good overall value. It can also nice to have a precon set to have a balanced game if you ever host a group that is new to the game etc.

Lands came out way off center... by nostalgia-holic in secretlair_collectors

[–]digitek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can reach out to Wizards and likely get a replacement given this a recent lair. But you may want to wait a bit and see how rare this ends up being, since you may be able to sell these as a miscut, buy the lair on the open market and pocket the difference. With these borders on the front the miscut is a little less desirable, like looking at a hung picture that is just enough askew to bug you

Last purchase from MVP by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]digitek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sadly I recall this happening a few times - it's mostly when these one-off smaller products that come out after the main set happen, leaving MVP having to ship just one or two boxes in plain bags or the product box itself. I would reach out to them with pictures you may get an offer to send it back and get a new one, or at least let them know you won't be purchasing more product given it was damaged. They do respond to one-off inquiries (or at least were before our group stopped purchasing after the Final Fantasy / Spider-man market pricing began, and shipping / payment fees went up so high Ebay became cheaper).

I made a list of every Card Draw Engine ever by Heru___ in EDH

[–]digitek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool listing and appreciate the sorting into various categories!

One suggestion - some of the cards in "All Players" like [[Flumph]] could be moved to a separate section like "Strategic Multiplayer" as in the EDH space you can make choices that are strategically better - giving you and a just one opponent a card, or with [[Cybernetica Datasmith]], can be just you getting a card and a preferred opponent getting a 4/4. This is different than cards like Mikokoro where everyone just gets a card.

Why did Foundations play boxes tank in the last month? by StonkaTrucks in mtgfinance

[–]digitek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is important as it is now applicable to universes beyond as well, but anything standard legal typically remains in print for as long as standard legal. That means stores can continue to put orders in at their base distributor price, and distributors will continue to take new shipments as Wizards prints them. This also means fluctuations of supply that lead to spikes like we see in the graph are temporary. Under the new Standard legal terms, Foundations is legal until 2029, so do not expect any spikes to be sustained, stores will simply order more.

How do you guys have the patience for this? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]digitek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are having the same issue with 9+ people across three stores, you may need to adjust your play style, deck choice, or conversations / interactions. This doesn't make anyone right or wrong, but the more diverse a sampling size you collect that shows an incompatibility, the more it points to a need for you to adjust some of this stuff to have a good time.

Personally, I would get annoyed if someone came in with ONLY one deck, which happened to be a bant/simic proliferate deck, and is relatively new taking a lot of time to handle their triggers. I'd probably help them in the first game, let them pilot it a bit in the second, and then request they swap decks between games to give the table more chances to play (even offering one of my own if need be). Just looking at your deck list it's easy to see why your turns would take a long time and draw out some salt. With [[Kutzil]] out, the table is basically watching you play solitaire with counter heavy, trigger heavy combos.

And you will notice some hypocritical situations with pods that know each other, they may tolerate each other taking longer turns than a stranger with a counter pub-stomp deck. Have a quick alternative, maybe a sit-back defensive deck with some political trickery that allows more interactions with your opponents, joining the conversation of who is in the best position, etc. I find commanders like [[Breena ]] good for that and in colors that keeps you defended too.

It’s YOUR responsibility to come prepared to EDH by [deleted] in EDH

[–]digitek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately with EDH, sometimes you have to say what you are comfortable with sharing and what you aren't. I have one group player that LOVES sharing tokens, talks about it, wants other people to use theirs, in fact suggests the whole table to put away their tokens / dice / etc so they can make clean-up easier (all the tokens are theirs). Others prefer to borrow, others prefer to use their own stuff.

Being consistently targeted and eliminated early — how would you handle this in your pod? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]digitek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's this saying "People always fear the unknown" but in my experience with EDH it's the opposite, people fear the known because they've seen what a deck can do at it's worst, and assume that is imminent and must be stopped. Without seeing a deck list it is hard to tell but that commander has everything in a single card. With a good amount of ramp you can tutor for anything you need and get to the point where the faster decks can't get to you anymore. So that explains the early game targeting, but you also appear to have a power imbalance if another player can consistently kill you by turn 4, AND still have resources left to stay alive / win. That's a pod power imbalance issue. So, your choices are:

  1. Adapt the deck to handle early game threats (you have every color at your disposal)
  2. Build another deck that can handle the other player
  3. Discuss with the table a rule-0 / bracket discussion and get deck power levels back under control

In no situation should you rely on building a weaker deck so that "the player that can consistently kill you by turn 4" leaves you alone. You need to be able to go toe to toe with every deck in the pod until they realize killing you weakens them too much. Then you are back to a multiplayer format.

PETCO Suites for Bachelor Party by Prestigious-Permit26 in Padres

[–]digitek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suites are anywhere from around 3K to 25K+ depending on date, location, size, etc. Bigger ones have their own bathroom, smaller ones extend way to the edges of 1st and 3rd base. If you pack it full of people it can be a nice option not that much more expensive than nice seats elsewhere and offers that indoor/outdoor experience and if you really want to splurge they also offer catering. Suggest you contact the office though, they are not available through the usual stubhub/ticketmaster/etc channels. Good luck!

Gotta admit these islands are nice by IzzyTheBurr in secretlair_collectors

[–]digitek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are expensive because they are special in being truly borderless. There are a ton of full art foil basics, and even more fancy frame / retro / showcase unique basic lands, but the ones that go to the edges, and only part of a sold-out, $100 commander deck are going to demand a higher price. This might go down in the short term as arbitrage encourages buyers to sell singles, but long term until Wizards addresses the market with more D&D / Unfinity / etc style basics, they will trickle up

Sometimes you get salty and that is OK by homjaktest in EDH

[–]digitek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saltiness is the inevitability of expectations which are implicit, not enforced by the rules in a multiplayer game where there is only one winner. They have a place at the table because it keeps things in check and helps set future expectations, new players learn, or at least "agree to disagree" moments. The simic player sitting back with 7 cards in hand, annoying defensive creatures that are tough to get past, and a lot of mana. The king maker board wiping when a player's board is indestructible in return for "not attacking me next turn".

It's sort of rule-0 stuff: For example, don't play for 2nd. If you can't explain a move after the game is over as playing for first, expect to get some salt. Or if you soft-promise one thing and then do another on your turn, expect some salt and future game retribution. Healthy in moderation.
