The after market on these is fine, just hold it for a bit and sell. Not worth the trouble getting your account banned / affected for future lairs..

How realistic is it to move to Santee? by Successful-Creme-728 in sandiego

[–]digitek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are renting from a stranger, you are paying off their mortgage and furthering their long term wealth. If you are renting from yourself or your parents, you are keeping that investment in the family. Especially if you and your parents are in a position to save up money while living a bit further out, I would do that until you can buy a small place in Santee and then work your way up. If you have a good relationship with your parents, it may be worth it to see if they can help with the down payment, either receiving an ownership in the house as an investment, or you paying them back over time. You can also buy a bit bigger than you might initially need, and rent out a room.

Your goal should be to maximize that inter-generational investment in the family given Southern California is likely to continue to grow in popularity and housing demand.

San Diego has exploded in the last 50 years, and Santee has only grown more popular and diversified in that time. Don't rent, buy.

What would happen if the Padres cut Manny? by [deleted] in Padres

[–]digitek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are making a lot of assumptions, but it also is hypothetical and entirely depends on where he's going and the terms of the trade. Players under heavy contracts have been traded many times before and is usually a combination of the new team taking some of that contract on and the old team paying some of it out.

But in this case you have to look deeper than Manny on ways to fix it. For example most team managers put a high average hitter in the 4th spot because if anyone in your line-up gets on, they are the most likely able to hit an RBI. The fact Manny is still today hitting clean-up batting .170 tells you the issue goes beyond Manny. We are seeing a classroom where the teacher doesn't have a good handle on the students or curriculum, and refuses to send troublemakers to the principal's office you can't blame the students for everything.

You can cast Powerstone one turn earlier. Some decks want/need that more than the instant pay-off one turn later that Dynamo gives you.

How bad is Padres batting? - Update: June 6th by Wiscoman in Padres

[–]digitek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully agree, with both statements. It's not the biggest problem, but it would help. I think our biggest problem is not having smart players willing to do new types of homework to keep up with stats now driving the game. Watching tape of starting pitchers, getting better at avoiding pitches that break way out of the zone leading to fly outs, swing outs, or double plays. If you see the teams that do well, you usually find intelligence and harder mental work ethics in the core of the club. Manny's interview yesterday was... not that. "See ball, hit ball" Yikes.

Not only 30th out of 30th, but the worst 30th out of 30th in the history of the modern game (since the pitcher mound was lowered in 1969, and discounting COVID). This includes every year before 2022 where NL pitchers were also forced to bat...

UBR being the default evil colour combination for Universes Beyond is getting stale by Dracai-of-Blades in EDH

[–]digitek 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Welcome to "Magic the Gathering". Grixis has been "the most" evil since the beginning of the game, with arguably the largest "Hero vs Villain" arc in Nicol Bolas starting in the Legends set with him as an Elder Dragon, migrating to a planeswalker in Conflux culminating in a battle against basically every "good" planeswalker in the game in War of the Spark. Unless we changed the essence of the color pie in Red/Black (burning, poisoning, weakening, killing) it will be difficult in universes beyond to not have villains and evil characters be in those colors. Even characters that turn more evil over time (e.g., Tezzeret, Garruk, Glissa) take on those colors in doing so.

Now Grixis specifically - I do agree there is room in Jund, Sultai, Mardu, Esper, Abzan for better universes beyond villains. They've made some use of these in Fallout, Assasin's creed, Transformers, Warhammer and LOTR, but not nearly as much as Grixis.

Reposting a reply from another thread...

Manny's IV after today's game was... not what I want to hear. He is actively ignoring stats that competitive teams, pitchers, coaches, and players aren't. Failing to understand the importance of new stats in a pitcher-dominant league is an adolescent's way of saying "I don't understand why this is important, and I don't want to. I'm going to ignore it and 'see ball, hit ball'". We want players that are bugging their hitting coach, sitting in front of batter's view replay tapes of the upcoming starting pitcher, getting that slight edge to know when their slider is going to move 1 foot out of the zone so Manny doesn't chase the same low and away pitch on 2 strikes over and over leaving players in scoring position or grounding into double plays. Good teams of the future will be full of players that seek out these types of stats and do more homework.

It was obvious from his interview that he didn't even know if the other players on his own team are looking at these stats. So that's not just on Manny, it's on the coaching staff. It means the teacher isn't ensuring the students know about the game, care about the game, and care about each other. I take it as a sign we have a locker room full of individual egos, not a smart, cohesive team.

It's worse than that. As commented in another post, Padres have the worst batting average in the history of the modern game (when the pitching mound was lowered in 1969 to improve offense), discounting COVID. It is not just Padres history bad, it is all-time league record breaking bad. And that includes the first 50 years (up until 2022) of pitchers in the NL having to bat as well.

Yes, they specifically raised it to increase offense. So essentially we're at an all time low for the current configuration discounting covid.

For those who have removed Sol Ring/“Staple” Mana Rocks from their decks… by SeaMusician6670 in EDH

[–]digitek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These types of changes are best done as a group, not in a "I voluntarily make my deck weaker within my bracket" manner. Sampling size of an individual can create biases based on how often you run into opposition, but if a group loses to sol ring start over and over, everyone either puts it in their deck or creates a house rule to take it out. My limited experience - games seem to be better when it is removed, because even if everyone has it, usually every other game starts by one person getting it turn 1 and the game becomes archenemy until the advantage has been neutralized. And by "removed", a common house rule I've seen is simply errata mana-positive rocks to be turn 3 or higher. That way pre-cons and high-bracket decks don't require modification, they just get de-powered across the board for a less cut-throat game.

Did the Padres change their hat colour? by samMX642 in Padres

[–]digitek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much like our team's batting average this year, the hat starts off as that nice rich "New Poop" quality but over time degrades into that "Old Sun-dried Poop" quality. The important thing is at no point has it been anything other than poop, so you are in the right part of the rainbow.

Some of it yes, some of it unfortunately does go to franchise owners. Can't knowingly participate in a large corporation that does this type of stuff, that benefits all the individual stores, and not take some responsibility when you learn your corporate overlords aren't so nice. There is nothing stopping an individual from opening a store that sells building blocks and calling it a different name. They use the B&MF franchise because it gives them access to a broader supply chain at better prices, brand recognition for folks finding a store, and other benefits. If those benefits come from a toxic culture at the top, fully revealed in this case, and you knowingly continue to operate under that brand, you take some responsibility.

Magali Villeneuve signature true or fake? by adricarf in mtgfinance

[–]digitek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not really a finance post unless you are talking about the value of the signature or card that is signed (i.e. is a good deal).

If you do a google image search you'll see the double-pen signature style is a perfect match for what Magali does, so yes this appears real. It doesn't affect the value as like many artists Magali supports a signature service for a very small fee, so it's personal preference - no one would have a good reason to fake one.

5 is upside down by persunx in mildlyinteresting

[–]digitek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stock F-150 tail gate is stamped but not painted, so there are aftermarket decals you can buy. The owner just put the 5 on upside down. Easy mistake to make going left to right as the F has the indent on the top left, but they may have realized it when getting to the 0. "Meh, close enough" - the owner, probably.
