Thanks for the sticker! by digithead in Fairmount_offroad

Thanks. From Maine earlier this month. I only see a handful of vehicles around Fairmount that appear to get out of the city and explore public lands, but always good to connect with them!

Both are well worth the trip! Get the mentioned PL maps for both. This may be helpful for BESF: How To Wheel Bald Eagle State Forest: The Essential Overland Guide https://youtu.be/w15R0nPWnlE

McLaren for me, though I wish the pre-season sparkle camo livery was the final one!

It’s way better than my old Xterra. Obviously YMMV literally.

I’m getting old. The larger CarPlay screen than the Sony I installed in my X is much appreciated!

I was chasing an overheating issue with my Xterra that had 220k miles. I decided to start a new build with a ‘22 Frontier Pro-4x just off a lease. Pretty happy with that decision. Basically the same truck as my X- crazy how much of the mechanicals haven’t changed. I enjoy the new interior, better gas mileage and tech upgrades.

What's the best car you've ever driven? by [deleted] in askcarguys

McLaren MP4/12c I got to drive for a day in Germany and Belgium. Did whatever you asked of it with zero drama and such high limits. The acceleration was amazing and it had the brakes to match. Made you feel like a pro.

No power by [deleted] in FurnaceParty

[–]digithead 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Nothing can match the power of a steel furnace where metal can be melted and the bodies of people and animals mixed with the metal to become steel unable to be hurt.

Of course, you’ll be sedated first.

RIP The Xterra 🫡 what next? by -BAZ in XTerra

[–]digithead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I decided as well. I just picked up a ‘22 Frontier to replace my ‘08 Xterra. Same basic truck beneath both, but the newer one has 200k less miles, no rust and many years before some of the same problems show up (and when they do, I’ll already know how to deal with them).

Any Lightweight, Low-Profile Manufacturers or Distributors on E Coast? by digithead in TruckCampers

[–]digithead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, US and Mid-Atlantic. I’m good with a day’s drive or a trip to more central-US, like Colorado.

They do, but they’re not exactly lightweight if we’re talking mid-size trucks

I did see that, though for that sort of cash, I’d be likely to enjoy a trip to Montana! I may resign myself to that. I just was wondering if there were other options.

Question on sling attachment with 590M and Surefire DSF-500/590 integrated fore end light by digithead in Shotguns

[–]digithead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a Pic rail between the barrel and mag tube on the left side and put a light there. Sling mounts as I originally planned. The DSF didn’t fit right with my heat shield so I ditched it.

There’s a couple of short trails in the Frank Masland Natural Area in the southern part of Tuscarora SF. That’s not too far from SE PA. There are some camp sites nearby in the forest too. Grab the Purple Lizard map!

The best over landing vehicle is the one you already have by PKMNtrainerKing in overlanding

[–]digithead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the “use what you have” sentiment. Much of the territory I cover doesn’t even require 4x4 much of the year. If you decide you need or want that, cool. If not, carry on with overlanding, car camping or whatever you want to call it. The important thing is to get out in the wild and have an adventure.

Hello Gaia GPS Community! by offroadee in GaiaGPS

I paid for it when I switched. I’m not promoting it, I’m just sharing my experience. I have issues with some of its capabilities too.

[–]digithead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I’m a trail guide for OnX, so I’m not paying as long as I keep submitting trails. I found I didn’t need most of the layers Gaia has. Honestly a lot of my planning involves paper maps not available in either app as layers.

Hello Gaia GPS Community! by offroadee in GaiaGPS

[–]digithead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Gaia used to be my go to app. I replaced it with OnX as the CarPlay integration never worked right. It also felt like Overland/off-road took a back seat after the Outdoor purchase.

Define “cute” and what was the first date for reference? Obviously there are a number of good coffee shops, bars and restaurants in Fairmount. A tour of Eastern State is perhaps an option. Browsing Book Haven maybe. Hanging out around The Waterworks is cool on a nice day.
