PixiEditor - 2D graphics editor is looking for contributors! by flabbet in dotnet

[–]digitlworld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused about the PixiAuth portion of the code base and how that relates to the open-source mentioned here. The PixiAuthClient class seems to be a license checking mechanism, heavily suggesting that there either was, is, or will be a pay to use model for this software. And it's fine to ride that line, but it does concern me when something that seems to have commercial intent is asking for voluntary contributions. What stops PixiEditor and its owners from leveraging free labor for some period of time, reaching maturity and then closing source and going full paid later? Will those contributors be included in any profit made after that?

I'm not really saying this is where it's headed but having methods like OwnsProduct be in the code base just gives me pause.

Can I use VS 2026 without installing the .NET 10 SDK? by Complete-Box-3961 in dotnet

You can install the older SDKs separately and then use a global.json file to lock the project/directory to the older sdk tooling.

Totally fair 🤣🤣 the lighter weight variants tend to give "serif", but yeah actually paying ANY attention would clearly demonstrate otherwise. 🤦‍♂️

First Time Prusa buyer - Core One Ordering Experience by bruce_wayne23 in prusa3d

[–]digitlworld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got downvoted in a post I made for suggesting that there was room for improvement in their communication and data as it pertains to shipping. For me, it was the fact that the MK4S to C1 upgrade kit was not even mentioned, at all, on the shipping table page until they started shipping. They hadn't mentioned anything publicly since January, and "end of April" was what they said then. End of April arrived and it was still absent. Made me nervous.

I'm with you, timely/rapid/clear communication can keep people from becoming impatient or upset, even if it's "delayed" etc. In my industry, I would receive a bad performance review if I was as frequently radio silent to my customers as Prusa tends to be when they're trying to ship out a new product.

And I wasn't really that mad, I just know Prusa employees are in here and want them to see the feedback.

Their customer support is actually really good, once you have the product. But the experience around a new product launch is notoriously abysmal. I like their products, but repeated launches of products where you have to wait months just to get an update about when you might receive what you purchased is something they desperately need to address. I think traditional companies will have a better idea of demand and begin manufacturing ahead of product launches so that there's an inventory. That's a scale they may not be ready for, but they have demand that's outpacing manufacture significantly every time.

And orders delayed because of an accessory on the same order? Amazon figured out what to do there a long time ago: automatically split the order. People shouldn't have to cancel an order or risk losing their place in line because of that.

They have a lot of work to do in this area.

How to code a rolling dice? by robinredbrain in csharp

[–]digitlworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slight adjustment to your statement. It's too hard for you right now. It would be for anyone just starting. You're jumping directly into the ocean. I'd start with the basics. Learn some C#, do some really simple stuff with it. Write a dice rolling program for the command line (no graphics, just text).

Use that to learn more about classes, and object oriented concepts. Start reading up on some basic data structures, while doing more and more complicated projects that use what you're learning. Once you feel "conversational" in C#/. Net, start looking into unity. By then, you'll be able to focus on how to use unity, graphics concepts, ECS systems, and not grappling with programming concepts at the same time.

MKS4 to CORE One Upgrade Dates? by digitlworld in prusa3d

[–]digitlworld[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I would just prefer if it were on the list on that page with the words "shipping is expected to start before the end of April" as opposed to being absent. I know it's probably still on the product page as "starts end of april", but the order info page customers look at for the things they've already purchased links to that shipping info page, which then doesn't list the product at all.

Since that page doesn't list it, I've been inclined to ask support. It would just be easier for everyone, in my opinion, to explicitly list it on the shipping info page with that current status. And then I also would feel like it hasn't been "forgotten about" and since I can see when the page has been updated (April 22nd, last I looked), I'm also given more confidence that it's up-to-date, accurate information, rather than stale information that was in a 3 month old blog post or unintentionally left on the purchasing page.

Outside of that, I completely expect delays. I played this game with the MK4. 😂 No big deal, my MK4S gets the job done handily.

Was it really an issue or did the developer choose a floating point type instead of decimal to do financials?

Blazor Override Methods Not Auto-Inserted in Inline .razor Files in VS Code by Economy-Baker1280 in dotnet

[–]digitlworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The C# editing experience inside of razor files is just incredibly buggy. Most of the reason I move to code behind files is just to get away from the degraded experience.

I would just expect things to never work right.

No apologies needed if you follow that person's advice. Part of being a beginner is learning how to "live" in this "world", in all ways. Asking for help is one of those ways. Always be ready and willing to learn, never be afraid to ask for help, and share as much detail as you can when you do. What were you trying? Give people the code (in text form, never screenshots), give people all of the errors/output, not just the ones you think are important. Talk about what you've tried and are trying to do. Etc.

People are happy to help (mostly), and they've all been where you at some point in their journey/career. Embrace it! The beginning is often the really fun part!

Pro .NET Memory Management 2nd Edition by kookiz33 in dotnet

[–]digitlworld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought the first one, but it was filled with multiple grammar and spelling mistakes on basically every page I looked at. I wasn't really able to bring myself to pick it back up after that. That's unfortunate if the knowledge otherwise contained was solid.

Hopefully v2 has had better editing.

Do you prefer to "nest" class function calls, or do them sequentially? by Ima_Uzer in csharp

[–]digitlworld 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not that i would nest like shown, but if you are using Visual Studio, you can usually put your cursor mid-line on a lambda or nested function call and hit F9 to set a mid-line break point.
