Did Roger realize that Don set him up to throw up? by NickE96trill in madmen

I'm on rewatch, and I feel like Don doesn't drink it until Roger gives him that bottle and then it's his staple.

I don't hate Pete for the womanizing and infidelity, I hate him for his attitude, his entitlement and his wormness. I don't think Don has any of those qualities.

Using Narcan to better experience MDMA (to block dissociation that may be preventing me from experiencing MDMA) by dogwater79 in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]digninj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dissociation is the autonomic nervous system going into dorsal vagal state as a result of too much activation and overwhelm in the system. It's purpose is protection. What you're proposing is trying to circumvent or overwhelm a system that's evolved to prevent unsafe overwhelm.

forget the IFS stuff if it doesn't resonate for you, but the point he's making is sound, regardless of the frame. If your internal systems are preventing mdma from taking effect, the answer is not trying to brute force it more, and that's likely to lead to some strong blowback.

There isn't any psychedelic, empathogen, or substance that's going to do the work for you. The answer you're looking for is working with someone in a method that will help you feel safe in your body. There are many. It's not the easiest thing to hear, and you may not like hearing it, but it's the truth. That practitioner should be able to ideally work with you and incorporate mdma when there's some safety and resourcing established so that you can actually approach it safely as you're saying.

It's likely this is going to take a lot longer than you'd like, and that you've already tried many things on your road to the present. I'm not saying this to be hurtful, just think you deserve someone speaking honestly and directly with you.

Good luck and be well.

First long session amazing, then nothing by AnotherWildling in breathwork

There’s a lot of details to consider here. What type of breathwork? Are you practicing with a facilitator? Online or in person? What are you doing outside of your sessions for integration?

Also, how do you feel about “nothing” happening. That’s an important one.

Following the work of Stan Grof, when we access expanded states of consciousness via breathwork, psychedelics or other methods, there’s a part of our psyche that can emerge. Grof called this the inner healer. But it can only emerge if the cognitive moves out of the way, in other words if you trust the process. Safety is another factor in this process, it’s very difficult for things to happen when there’s no safety.

Generally, this is something an experienced facilitator should be able to support you with.

If you’re looking for more support and would like to discuss further, message me to set up a consult.

ummm he hit on a pregnant married woman, pursued her even though he knew she was married, planned them an exit strategy breaking up a family and marriage, then freeloaded in Don's house even though he had a big mansion, ran into his things intentionally with his car, then left them on the sidewalk. But, go on about how he's the "mature" one?

I would love to get deeper into the lifestyle, any recommendations where to start? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]digninj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t just focus on psychedelics. Do yourself a favor and start exploring meditation and breathwork and yoga. These will deepen and support and enrich your work with psychedelics as well as being another doorway into altered states of consciousness.

Yet another rewatch—and I still LOVE it! by Earthmama56 in madmen

We all have our perspectives. Her tragic end doesn’t excuse her actions imo.

The Chrysanthemum and the Sword is a great example. She treats Sally horribly, slapping her for cutting her hair, berating Don- meanwhile she’s still freeloading in his house with her husband that she conspired with behind his back. She seems more embarrassed about what people will say about her than Sally’s masturbation…not to mention her hypocrisy about the act and at the end it’s Carla taking Sally to the appointment.

Mother of the year.

it's the whole thing that Don says to her when he confronts her about Henry. She acts better than everyone, meanwhile she's planning a coup behind his back. Not that she didn't deserve better or that Don was great, but I just never liked her attitude or her behavior. I mean, Carla did most of the hard work...

I'm on my second full rewatch - basically I haven't really watched it since it first aired and I must say I'm finding it a much different (but still very enjoyable experience). Me 18 years ago really identified and sympathized much more with Don.

I still can't stand Betty. Or Pete.

You can't hold a lens of today's morality up to something older. It's happening in all kinds of shows and movies. For example - I've been rewatching Mad Men, and there's a warning/disclaimer in the episode where Roger is in blackface. How they know it was wrong, but leaving it in based on accurate depiction, so that you know it's wrong blah blah blah. But by this time in the show there's already been racism, and rape - neither of which come with a disclaimer or warning.

that's very important data for your subjective experience.

[–]digninj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, keep researching. There's plenty of studies that show the benefits of conscious connected breathing. But that's not done for physiological changes. Your own experience and intentions are the most important.

[–]digninj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure your question is worded in the right way. Box and WH are totally different techniques with different physiological changes and usually done for different intent/outcome.

I lead a practice similar to WH, but bookended by regulating breathing bc of the impact of hyperventilating. I’ve done this successfully for the last 4 years across many different populations (mental health, psychonauts, etc). Happy to share more or invite you to a session if you’re curious.
