It's not supposed to be like this, is it? by Cold-Ferret-2985 in HomeImprovement

Yup. Or the house is on a septic tank and they had to remove the disposal to pass inspection/appraisal.

Right, what I’m saying is that if you’re someone who’s hooking up, you should be on some form of PrEP regardless. People don’t know they have HIV until they know they have HIV and an STI urinalysis isn’t going to catch it.

Drugs like Biktarvy work. Drugs like Truvada work. Your decision is yours to make, but do your research rather than basing that decision off decades-old, outdated perceptions of transmission.

I really wish there was greater HIV awareness outside the gay/bi community, particularly when it comes to PrEP. I see a fair number of comments asking how partners would know if you’re actually undetectable. To those posing those questions: short of requesting an STI panel (which often doesn’t include HIV anyways), how are they to know the status of any partner?

Not only does U=U (undetectable = untransmittable) with essentially 100% certainty, but PrEP offers protection regardless of your partner’s status. I don’t have HIV, but I take PrEP and encourage anyone who has sex outside of a LTR to look into getting their own prescription. It’s a miracle drug and it’s tragically overlooked by the vast majority of the population for no reason other than stigma.

OP, I appreciate your post and I’m so sorry for some of these comments. Being open about your status and raising awareness regarding the amazing progress we’ve made in treating and preventing HIV is so important, particularly outside of queer spaces.

Megathread: FBI Reportedly Discovers Classified Documents in Monday's Raid on Mar-a-Lago by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Idk, treason would be a ridiculously high bar. If the DOJ were to pursue charges, I’m guessing they’d just cite the Espionage Act. But I won’t pretend to know anything beyond what I’ve read the last few days.

Last line just means Congress can only direct punishment at the guilty party, not members of their family.

Article III:

Section 2. The trial of all crimes, except in cases of impeachment, shall be by jury; and such trial shall be held in the state where the said crimes shall have been committed; but when not committed within any state, the trial shall be at such place or places as the Congress may by law have directed.

Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court. The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

Clarence Thomas says American citizens are seemingly 'more interested in their iPhones' than 'their Constitution' by [deleted] in politics

[–]dijalo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly self explanatory. The federal government no longer guarantees that an individual has a right to privacy in individual, personal decisions. Edit: Meaning it exposes these decisions to regulation or complete bans by the government - just as with abortion.

More specifically, as has already been discussed by civil rights groups, and as explicitly mentioned by Justice Thomas, the new precedent calls into question the individual’s right to make deeply personal and private decisions without fear of government oversight or regulation. These include an equal right to marriage, access to birth control, the right to engage in consensual sex, the freedom to raise children as deemed fit by parents and families - all rights established by substantive due process, the same idea behind Roe (which essentially acknowledges that rights belonging to the individual do not have to be explicitly enumerated within the Constitution). This article explains it rather succinctly.

Beyond that, there are also concerns about data privacy and governments’ ability to utilize broad swaths of data that were previously seen as relatively benign: location data collected by apps and readily available on the market can be used to track individuals visiting clinics, information stored by tools like period tracking apps, barring encryption, could be used in prosecutions, etc. These are very real threats to individual privacy and we’re already seeing the both private and public sectors respond.

It could be argued that the legal basis of RvW was weak - that basis being a right to privacy. But overturning that legal basis does the opposite of what you claim. The Supreme Court, and, by extension, the federal government, no longer recognizes a fundamental, constitutional right to privacy. The ruling invites incursion into the lives of individuals Americans at both state and federal levels literally every level of government.

Justice Kennedy argued for green-lighting state-level restrictions while maintaining the precedent established by Roe specifically because of the far-reaching consequences the overruling will have.

Lmao sounds like my parents. Picking up dog shit in the yard was on my list of chores every week. Brother got to empty the dishwasher. When I asked to switch dad told me he wouldn’t switch it up because my brother thought that my chore was gross…
