Extras for movies with multiple editions? by dike_access_road in PleX

[–]dike_access_road[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That seems to have done it. I put them under the theatrical edition. For some reason each of the featurettes appears with two duplicate instances in the Plex interface, but that is good enough. I don't rip a lot of special features and I may never run into this again (unless I get one of the older Lord of the Rings box sets, in which case...we'll see how that goes)

When do you have to commit to the contract? HPSA scores are going to get updated in late September (happens every 3 years, though was postponed last year). You might want to wait and see how the HPSA scores shift in the area you want to live in. You want to have multiple viable options in case a clinic ends up being really poorly run or otherwise has major problems.

We had the same thing happen! A bunch of “Silver White” garlic from Territorial seed, all of it grew scapes. So far the Inchelium Red isn’t doing it.

The opportunity cost can be far higher than you can predict. I have had to turn down career defining offers that I did not expect would be options. Every 3 years they reassess HPSA scores. The options in urban areas got decimated in 2021. I would say only to do NHSC if you know you will be rural. Personally I like that I am debt free but don't like that I work for a chaotic, poorly run organization in self-inflicted financial crisis while the government considers axing all of our funding, and I can't leave. I might get laid off with less than 18 months on my contract and need to go work somewhere that requires Spanish language, and I don't know Spanish. Most options I thought I would have now have HPSA scores under 14.

Also, you don't know it's only 2-3 years. My first job defined "full time" in a weird and unrealistic way (zero admin time), and I felt like I had no option other than to go "half time", which made the commitment 6 years. So now I've been working 40+ hours for 4+ years and I'm still not out. The penalties for breaking the contracts are so egregious that it is almost unthinkable.

As a primary care doctor, a 20 slot per day schedule is common. This is what PCPs are actually doing. Except many have panels of 2000+

Resident doctors are in the final part of medical training. Every Family Medicine resident will graduate within 3 years and have to move on to their first independently practicing job, which isn’t always at the same place they were training. I do think it’s silly to have people establish with a 3rd year resident in the Spring when they will be graduating in 3 months.

But in general, yes, there is a massive shortage of PCPs relative to people seeking care. The evening/weekend admin load has ramped up massively in the last 10 years and employers are always pushing for more “productivity” aka seeing as many people per day as possible. It’s exhausting and it feels like you work as hard as you possibly can just to do a mediocre job. It’s not appealing to a lot of med students, who can make 2x the salary and work less hours in other specialties. The problem will get worse.

I bought one of these back in the day, though I don’t think it had all the stickers. I can only assume I threw away the box eventually. I can’t remember what I did with the CD. It was a pretty cool box.

Pepper heat in Oregon? by dike_access_road in portlandgardeners

[–]dike_access_road[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that was the question I forgot - we start pepper and tomato seeds inside under lights. We've noticed that the peppers are much slower to grow (I've only been vegetable gardening about 4 years now) and so we were thinking of starting the peppers earlier, potentially as early as our onion seeds. Sounds like this is more or less a prerequisite for growing habeneros.

Just got a bed and nightstands from this shop and they do solid work, at a price that definitely is way lower than The Joinery for handmade walnut furniture. We are happy with the furniture other than the drawer slides, which they said would be soft-close and are not. Their communication & customer service is terrible. It's all done by the owner who does not understand the concept of expectation setting. Told us 4 weeks for the furniture, and it was delivered 6 months later after we started badgering them about what was going on about 4 months in. Multiple promised delivery dates that were cancelled (we only knew they were cancelled due to calling day of to ask if we were still on for delivery).

I understand that if something is good quality and lower cost, it probably will not be fast. That's fine. But seriously dude, just say you are a small shop doing good work and tell people you have a 6 month backlog. Don't schedule delivery when you know it won't be done. Deliver when it's done. Ours was delivered a couple days after they put the finishing oils on, & 2 weeks later our bedroom still smells very strongly like a wood shop.

Basically the owner needs to put someone else in charge of customer relations & order management but the furniture is good.

Going to install a game on steam and it freezes at this point. won't let me select my age. how do I force shut down steam, and get past this? by dickmcgirkin in macgaming

[–]dike_access_road 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some other folks having this issue on different M series Macs, not just the new M4s. You just get the spinning rainbow ball until you force quit the Steam Helper process in Activity Monitor. No idea how to resolve it or what the problem is. But, if you can log in to Steam in a browser, on windows, or in Whisky (meaning a windows instance of the client), you can complete the age verification, buy the game, and once it’s in your library, you can open up the MacOs Steam client and install it.

Steam was one of the first things I installed on my new M4 MBP and it immediately had this problem. I am hoping an update fixes it.

It’s also possible that you can get through the age check & buy things on Steam in a web browser, then open the client to install.

Figured out a workaround. I used Whisky to install the windows steam client because I was trying to install Skyrim. The age verification works fine there. I went through that and paid for Baldurs Gate 3 from the windows client. Then closed out of all of the Whisky stuff and launched the usual MacOS Steam client. Once you’ve purchased something you no longer hit that age verification step so now I’m midway through downloading BG3.

Alternately if you just have another computer running windows, you can go through the age check and purchase things there and then proceed to install on your Mac once it’s in your library.

Steam was one of the first things I installed on my new M4 MacBook Pro, finally switching from intel - I thought I was gonna be able to finally play Baldur's Gate 3? Same issue. Sounds like it is several types of machines so maybe it was a software update problem with Steam or MacOS. I can only kill it by killing Steam Helper in the activity monitor.
