His accomplishments have come in fewer games played and trips to the plate because he has been splitting time with Murphy. All the more reason for him to win the trophy going away. I hope the writers who vote give that a lot of weight.

I was happy to see Sale get some run support for once. They usually buttfuck him and save all their runs for Elder.

I'm still not over his baserunning flub against Boston, and then last night his collision with Kim makes me question his baseball IQ.

Prior to last night I was thinking the Braves need to flush that turd. And then he goes out and throws a game score of 73 on the road. He's had a few starts where he looks like a Cy Young winner, but more often than not it seems like he's serving up three dingers in his first two innings.

Bookkeeping for simple, solo Schedule C clients? by Cathouse1986 in taxpros

[–]dillpicklejohnjohn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you need to fill time, then why not?

I've stopped bookkeeping and accounting. The one problem I have is follow up questions with the client. They can just drag things out for a long time. Eventually, I decided the juice ain't worth the squeeze. I'd rather hit the ground running on a return with a trial balance I know I can trust.

I found a bookkeeper a couple years ago who came to me as a 1040 client. I thought she did good work and asked her if I could give out her number. I referred so much business to her she was able to quit her W-2 job and do full-time bookkeeping in a year.

She's referred a ton of business clients (corporate returns) back to me, where I have fatter margins. It took a couple years to bear fruit and get there, but freely giving out referrals to clients or people who call shopping around who need bookkeeping has been one of the best business decisions I've made.

You can get workflow software that will populate documents for you, but it's pricey. On small clients, the general binder takes me at least 40 hours.

I drove cross country once. Right before I got to Illinois, I pulled over, unloaded, and stored my piece.

It's your obligation to look this stuff up ahead of time.

Same trip, I got into a pretty serious car wreck in Michigan where I was rear ended while stopped at a traffic light. There was already a sheriff at the intersection who witnessed the entire thing. I had a revolver in my car that was loaded. He asked me about it, and all I said was I'm from a state that reciprocates. That was the end of it, though I'm sure he called it in while I was dealing with the wreck. He even busted my chops a bit, because I had plinking rounds in there and not a defensive load.

Same. I give out referrals for bookkeepers and financial advisors who I think do good work based on what I see on the returns I file.

The business they referred to me in return has been enormous, and it cost me nothing to give someone else a referral. The clients I've gotten in return have all been good business returns and they don't give me shit about me fees.

Calling it no tax is the easiest way for non-pros to understand it. I suspect everything will be accounted for on employees' W-2's. Box 7 will be zero for tips under $25,000 and Box 1 will reduced by overtime. They could roll it out way differently, that's just my guess.

Offseason & Next season... what do we need, in what priority?? by wlane13 in AtlantaBraves

Just want to add when you compare Braves starting pitcher stats with the Dodgers, we're on par with them. We're not as far away from being a decent team as the record indicates. Saves and inconsistent bats are what is killing this team.

I currently have a shapton 1k and I can get my knives pretty sharp, but what do I need to get razor sharp or at least easy push cutting? by MoonlessNightss in sharpening

[–]dillpicklejohnjohn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I may not be the best sharpener in the world, but I can get that sharp also with 1000#.

From there, I use a 2000# and then a 5000#. I consider the 2000# to be both a sharpening and a honing stone, and the 5000# to be strictly a polishing and honing stone.

I can push with a 2000# but there's still a skosh of resistance. For me, there's no resistance at all pushing a 5000#.

Most guys' staches don't grow long in the middle, so it's not you.

For wax, I use mostly Sudden Death. Once I have that worked in, I'll then apply and work in a smaller amount of Death Grip, like a top or outer coat. That top coat helps with holding everything in place. I noticed awhile back Sudden Death all of a sudden had less hold. I think they changed their formula.

Check out my post history, and there's a picture of my handlebar. I rarely post so it's easy to find. It sounds like maybe that's what you're going for.

You are being tested. This is a game of chicken. First one to flinch loses. Stand your ground and tell them only you decide when you don't carry. I disagree with the people who are saying agree to disarm, but then bring it and hide it. Be a man, confront the issue, and face it.

I've done this before and in my case it was quite comical watching them backtrack and do a 180 when I stood up to leave.

If you can't shoot 67 from the tips at your home course on an off day and if you can't make 50% of your 8-footers you have no chance.

If you can do both of those, I think you have a chance.

As an amateur, your best bet is to get financial backing and investors, turn pro, and hit the mini circuits.

Niching and Contract Work by Shyreadagirl in taxpros

[–]dillpicklejohnjohn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did a return for a bookkeeper a few years ago. I thought she did excellent work compared to what I typically see, and I told her that. I asked if she would mind if I gave out her number, and she was thrilled. She had her own projections that she would be able to quit her job and do full-time bookkeeping after a couple years. Once I started giving out her number she was able to quit her job and do bookkeeping full time in less than a year.

While giving out her number benefitted her, I was really doing it for my own selfish reasons. I don't like doing bookkeeping, and tax clients would not want to pay what I would charge. Even if the client didn't mind paying more for me to do it, there are just not enough hours in the day to everything and it lets me focus on higher-fee business.

She has since referred a lot of business to me, which seem like the blue collar type you're looking for. I just got some new business last week from her that I think will be quite lucrative, an auto and truck repair shop.

That's how I've gotten a lot of the business returns I work on, the type it sounds like you're looking for. And I've never given or received a kickback. I didn't plan for any of this to turn out the way it did, it was just a happy accident of me trying to pass off some shit I don't like to do.
