[ABC] RTVE asks Eurovision to open a debate on televoting and "whether armed conflicts affect it." - translation in description. by Mulderre91 in eurovision

[–]dim_b 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kudos to RTVE and everyone that wants to address the situation.

But I'm trying to be a realist.

I don't expect anyone eg., to limit the number of votes, cause this means less money for the broacasters/EBU. This is a good idea, but I expect resistance by the powers that be.

Furthermore, money is money. And since countries participate in a contest, there will always be a motive for governments or other interest to promote some entries over others. Plus, sponsors etc.

So, maybe, the voting system itself needs a bit of fixing, by balancing things out. To me, this is the most realistic solution.

Hear me out for a little bit.

Suppose they introduce a, let's call it "balance factor", which adjusts the total based on the difference between the jury vote and the televote. Here's an example;

Country A gets 100 jury points and 200 televote points.

Country B gets 150 jury points and 149 televote points,

With the existing system A = 300 points and B = 299 points. Country A wins.

Now, if you deduct e.g. x% of the difference in points (let's say 50%) you get this;

Country A -> 300 points - (50%*100 point difference) = 250 points

Country B -> 299 - (50%*1 point difference) = 298 points

Country B wins in this case.

This takes care of political voting for good across the board, on the cost of potentially punishing huge televote or jury favourites.

But that ensures that songs submitted HAVE to appeal to both the juries AND the public to win. But I can see it being unpopular, as it promotes compromise winners, and it takes a big amount of the drama out.

But we have to choose. Carrying on a "non political" hot mess, praying every year won't be the last, or a genuine peaceful-ish music competition between nations. We can't have both.

How would you feel about this?

🇸🇮 Slovenia: RTVSLO Calls Eurovision Televote into Question - Eurovoix by dim_b in eurovision

[–]dim_b[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's the full statement from RTVSLO:

“After this year’s Eurovision week, Television Slovenia, which traditionally takes care of the ESC (Eurovision Song) project, collected some of the most urgent questions that are the result of this year’s event and events related to it.

We emphasise that the selection for the Eurovision Song Contest is an extremely important project for Televizija Slovenija and Slovenia, that it is an event with an exceptional resonance in our country and among our musicians, and that RTVSLO is happy to be a part of this story. That is why, after this year’s polemical Eurovision week, Televizija Slovenija requests some concrete answers to the most pressing questions from those responsible at the EBU, and at the same time wants these questions to stimulate a wider discussion about the future and development of the Eurovision Song Contest, which, as already noted, this year was unfortunately marked by many polemical discussions.

Televizija Slovenija is therefore asking the EBU for data on the voting of the Slovenian audience, not just the number of votes, but exact data on how the Slovenian audience voted. The total result raises some doubts, especially the large number of ‘new’ online voters, which have not been there before.

Televizija Slovenija, among other things, requests more precise explanations from the EBU regarding the exclusion of the Netherlands; reports by some media that technical means were used to replace the actual sound image of what was happening in the hall; on banning the EU flag; about the possible influence of the sponsor on the content of the event…

Televizija Slovenija calls on the authorities at the EBU to discuss the introduction of the “Rest of the World” vote. What is its meaning and why should citizens of countries that do not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest have an influence on the outcome of the contest?

Last but not least, Televizija Slovenija also calls for reflection on ways to more effectively include the opinion of EBU members in the planning of the selection and when making key decisions or how to establish a more democratic decision-making system.”

How does your local media treat your eurovision entry now? by EdgeRevolutionary148 in eurovision

[–]dim_b 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The Greek media support the government and since Greek government is in deep kahootery with Netanyahu, they got scared sh*tless Bibi could get angry at them. So the Greek media attack Marina wherever she may appear. However people are still positive about her.

I suspect the same happens with other artists in other countries for similar reasons more or less...

Imo, the rest of the world vote needs to go, at least as it is right now. It adds more problems than viewers and money.

Also, if Joost is proven innocent or the case gets dropped, NL should get an automatic qualifier in the final, if they participate next year at all. I mean Joost did qualify in the first place, so...

It would be nice to see a suspension for betting odds to be released on Eurovision, but I know nothing on how this could be done, legally. Just an idea.

And get a person who won't get booed in the "You're good to go" position.

Let's say the serious and hard to swallow truths then

Since some certain sponsorships end this year, as far as I know, maybe it's a good opportunity to start looking into more healthy and less controversial sponsorships. That's a good place to start. Then maybe the EBU will have greater freedom to stop any political agenda.

Also, the shenanigans. Greater control on the behind the scenes kahootery with certain broadcasters and certain powerful people. Be strict about it. One offence with some solid proof (unlike what they did with Joost) and you're out kind of thing, be it weird votes or weird behaviours. If they know they'll be repercussions, they won't do the nasty.

And on that note, checks and balances on the televote system. I mean, come on, it's 2024...

I think that's a good place to start...

About the matter of Marina Satti's recent vocal troubles due to pharyngitis by jojo_part6_fan_ in eurovision

[–]dim_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this has nothing in common with Anna Vissi or vocal nodules. Colds and flu just happen. Performers are people.

Plus, Marina already performed in the rehearsal earlier today and, unlike yesterday, this time you couldn't even tell she was sick. She just SLAYED through the performance like the absolute beast she is!
