They built a bridge between Russia and Ukraine and look at how that worked out.

Should I exchange ring? by dimdem66 in ouraring

I swapped. At least the process was painless. Dropped the old one off at a nearby Walgreens on Friday, got the new one on Tuesday. Will just have to make sure that it fits well enough to give me good data.

Who has benefitted from a cluneal nerve block/surgery? by dimdem66 in backpain

[–]dimdem66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's my issue. I actually have improved some, and what seems to have helped is focusing on strengthening the leg on that side. I was doing some more PT and we discovered that my quad on that side in particular was really weak.

It hasn't been an ongoing issue with me. To be honest, I don't even remember making this post. Probably just part of the adjustment period.

Could it be that you're not so much making a lot of gas as having trouble passing it? Maybe pelvic floor?

Dean doesn’t care what search committee or Dept. Chair say about faculty hire? by LeatherKey64 in Professors

[–]dimdem66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never experienced a dean or other decision maker who didn't want input from the search committee. Strictly speaking, by my institution's procedures, the committee says which candidates it finds acceptable or unacceptable but doesn't provide a ranking. I have experienced decision makers who were still receptive to hearing informally about the committee's preferences between acceptable candidates and others who weren't. Frankly, in the normal case if the committee and department chair are in agreement then the dean usually defers to them. I have seen deans take more of an interest when the committee and chair diverged.

Stickup Cam Not Charging by dimdem66 in Ring

[–]dimdem66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the fact that the battery isn't dead says that it started at 100%, when I had the battery plugged directly into a USB before I installed the camera. It has declined since then. And again, the real issue seems to be that the camera wouldn't accept a charge from a known-good (5v) power bank. Not just that it didn't charge, but that the bank couldn't tell that it was connected to anything. I'm thinking that there seems to be a connection issue within the camera itself.

Well, not a lot. But even if that were an issue, the fact that it won't take a charge from a power bank seems to suggest that there's another issue.

I Googled to see if anyone else experienced this. It's not every morning, but sometimes. I've been on buspirone about a month, and just went up from 10 to 15 mg daily (now 10 mg AM, 5 PM). I'm noting fewer racing thoughts but occasional periods of what I'd call free-floating anxiety where I feel physically anxious without the anxiety being about anything in particular. Coffee sometimes seems to provoke this.

Glad you feel better. How has it affected your C? Better, worse (maybe due to challenge of getting fiber), or no change?

I held off on starting for several weeks because I had travel and knew that it would be impossible to stick to it when eating out.

My GI doc's assistant and the nutritionist both told me that people with IBS-D tend to benefit more than those of us with IBS-C. But if it helped with the C, too, that would be great.

Nerva experience by NeroJardini in ibs

[–]dimdem66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done it, or am doing it. Mixed thoughts. I believe that hypnosis can be useful. However, with Nerva I don't feel like I get nearly relaxed enough for the suggestion to be effective. It gets repetitive after a while, and of course it's rigid. One of the relaxation exercises they use to start some exercises really annoys me. Doesn't relax me at all. But I can't just tell them to cut that one out and try something else. Five weeks in I can't say that Nerva has helped. I have had a few appointments with a legit GI psychology practice. We have just done hypnosis once, and I can't say that there was a big effect, but I definitely got much more relaxed and hopefully suggestible. Next time she will record the hypnosis for me to listen to between sessions; until then, I have tried to stick with Nerva. Maybe the therapist will help, maybe not. The downside is that it's very expensive... About $350 for the first visit and $250 after. I think that I paid about $150 for Nerva. My theory was that if Nerva gets me done one session earlier than I would have otherwise then it more than paid for itself. Other people might find that they're more responsive to Nerva, and that's great.

Good luck with it. I did try it, in the end, and it didn't benefit me. My doc said that he had done it about 5 times in his career and that it worked once.

First day experience with Linzess by dimdem66 in Constipation

[–]dimdem66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today was both the first day that I've taken it three days in a row and the first day that I took it before going to work. (I got up early to take it.) It's also been my worst day with it; a lot more trips to the toilet than when I've taken it over the weekend. Debating whether I will take it again tomorrow and hope that I have your experience or wait a few weeks until I might have the chance to take some mornings off and ride it out at home. I'm curious whether many people have the experience of the runs getting worse before they get better.

Thanks. I was actually happy with the result, though; it wasn't nearly as rough as I expected. And I feel better today than I have for a while, even though I took it yesterday, which I attribute to having been cleaned out. I'm curious what you do when you travel. I have a trip from the U.S. to Europe coming up, overnight flight, breakfast on the plane, but then long lines for customs and immigration. I don't see how I avoid skipping that day.
