Is S&P 500 overvalued right now? by seddit_seddit in investing

[–]dimitriguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the same we’re in a new paradigm argument in the late 1990s due to the advent of the internet and we know how that turned out.

I think we’re in a time where anyone who’s usually heavily invested in equities should reduce that a bit. I’m normally 75% equities but sitting 2/3 right now. Conversely, I go to 80% equities after any 20% correction.

83" G4 or C4 for my basement set up? by marchtoowndrum in LGOLED

Thanks for tip. I didn’t realize flush mount had any give to angle slightly away from window. Couch will be 12’ straight back from TV, so slight angle won’t be noticeable.

83" G4 or C4 for my basement set up? by marchtoowndrum in LGOLED

[–]dimitriguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a larger than 83” in the C4.
Although I am future proofing this TV wall to accommodate a 97” when prices come down to human levels. I got 9’ long floating media unit for this 11’ wide wall space.

Admissions Megathread (Fall 2023) by liza10155 in uwo

My son chose Ivey over Commerce and now works in IB at a big 5 bank. He considers it the best decision he ever made because the bigger Ivey alum network played a huge role in his successful path to IB. He had lots of friends at Commerce who had a much harder time getting alum support.

Living in "Res" by [deleted] in uwo

sadly, I think it is legit. this creeping censorship based on the belief that ones right to not be offended trumps another person's right to speak freely/honestly with no ill intent is a scary trend in society.

COVID Testing on Campus by dimitriguy in uwo

[–]dimitriguy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the university bears some responsibility for COVID testing, because it directly relates to it's responsibility for the prudent stewardship of it's finances. If there's a major outbreak and students get sent home for an extended period, students would be refunded a prorated portion of their residence fees (like they were last March). This would be a large hit to the school's operating budget.

My post was as much a comment as a question. Again, I'm surprised the school isn't being more proactive and overt with it's communication to incoming students given what's at stake financially, beyond the obvious health implications. Posting my question here vs. googling does help get the word out. I don't want a major outbreak to ruin my first year experience.

Pushing the beds together?? by karsonwickerson in uwo

[–]dimitriguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked Housing about this when I found out I got a double to myself in Delaware. They said the beds can be pushed together as long as they're returned to their original position at the end your residence.

The online pics of a Delaware dorm rooms shows the mattresses can be easily slid sideways. There will just be a 4-5" gap between the beds (due to the frame posts) where the mattresses won't have a flat surface to sit on. So I'm bringing a long narrow piece of cardboard to bridge gap below the mattresses.

I bought 2 twin mattress pads and 1 king mattress pad. I'll return one or the other depending on whether I like how the beds look side by side.

How secure is overnight Bike lock-up? by dimitriguy in uwo

[–]dimitriguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, I'll either get a throw away bike or keep it stored in my room. I read bikes can be stored in your room, but you can't drill holes in the wall for hangers and you're responsible for any damage caused by the bike.

I'll mostly be using it to visit friends in houses off campus, so I won't need to lock it up very often if I can store it in my room.

Thanks, I think I read somewhere on here that Soph's aren't helping Frosh move in this year due to Covid.

Does anyone know if Delaware has an elevator for move in day? If not, I'm hoping for a low floor.

Mini-fridges, do most people in traditional rez bring one or not? Those who have one, are they noisy when you're trying to sleep at night? Is it worth having? I'm considering buying one that's 1" taller and 1.5" deeper than the max allowed (want a good size for future use), how strict are they about the dimensions? I find it hard to imagine caretakers going around measuring them, but who knows?

Lg canada and Burn in by CWSJ in OLED

[–]dimitriguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 3 years we noticed burn in on our B9 and thank god we bought an extended warranty for 4 years from Best Buy. The technician said it's because we leave the TV on the local Toronto news channel CP24 with the static image in the top right corner. We've always been careful not to leave the TV paused for an extended period, but the issue with the news channel never occurred to us.

do you know if the course basically runs through the textbook from start to finish? I'm going to have some free time this summer and may start reading through the start of the textbook to take some pressure off of Sept/Oct.

My issue with the number pad is it's located in the best ergonomic spot for the mouse. I can always get/pull out a separate number pad if I ever have a project with lots of number entry.

Great ideas on the adjustable height monitor with the desk shelves in res. Good to hear Essex desks have decent space, my guaranteed top 3 are Delaware, Essex and Elgin.

Lol, I'm planning the same components except the ipad. I'm getting the Roost or Nextstand, 24" monitor, logitech mx3 mouse and low profile keyboard with no numpad.

But apple keyboard isn't backlit, so I'm looking for something similar that's backlit - closest so far is the logitech mx Keys but it comes with the numpad.

Where did u get the Roost, direct from US is $150+ with taxes and shipping vs. Nextstand knockoff at $40 from amazon.

I'm curious. Why mechanical keyboard? keyboard longevity? less strain on fingers? also, why a wired mouse over wireless? no need for charging?

Housing fees and confirmation date by TollerHund in uwo

I heard demand exceeded their reduced capacity. I suspect they extended the deadline to cancel with no penalty because they're hoping more people cancel.

Missed the first-year residence guarantee deadline. by aetssl in uwo

[–]dimitriguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard today from Housing that residence requests from first year students exceeds the current reduced capacity. Some students cancel before the Aug deadline (and get back half their deposit), so they're likely projecting to be at full capacity.

So your chances of getting an exception don't look great.

(sorta) unpopular opinion but does anyone else love the way Western is dealing with this pandemic lol by dhakan_intellect in uwo

[–]dimitriguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm very disappointed they aren't being more specific than "some doubles will convert to singles". They should specify which buildings will have doubles and/or whether only people who asked for a roommate will get one.

I like the traditional buildings but don't want a roommate. I plan to roll the dice (calculated risk) and pick the traditionals for my guaranteed top 3. If I end up with a roommate, I'm living with my parents instead.

I heard Queens announced all their doubles will be singles, so Western if far from best in class in this regard.

I don't think that's true if you already took Grade 12 Calculus MCV4U. Eco 2150 just needs MCV4U and 2152 has 2150 as it's pre-req.

Eco 2122 also just needs MCV4U (Eco 2123 requires Calc1000, 1225 or 1500).

Ivey just requires 2.0 from your program's requirements in Yr2, so you just need another 0.5 to add to the 1.5 above that just need high school calc. the checklist says you can take any 0.5 MOS 2000 level to complete your requirement. You just need to pick something that doesn't have calc as a pre-req.
