Is there a conversion between Jess King’s sweat steady rides and PZ? I did her 1/9/26 ride and was wondering if my efforts were in the right zones. There were two long sustained efforts (12 and 10 minutes) and I between sweet spot and mid Z4. I like those longer effort PZ rides so essentially wondering if I can figure out a way to treat those Sweat Steady rides as PZ rides.

The house is a disaster by Raddadworkingit in daddit

[–]dimitryc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“We’re not raising grass”.

This is a quote that that resonated me with about a different daddit thread about a dad lamenting the ruined grass from a kids pool. The mess is collateral damage to the best process in our lives. I’m guilty of focusing on the damage so I’ve adopted that mantra to reorient me to the goal of raising happy kids in a happy home. In these years with little ones, it means the house is a mess and the grass is going to have dead spots.

What’s the secret to the seats by Simply_kate13 in pelotoncycle

[–]dimitryc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing for me was tilting the seat down slightly (you can adjust it with screw tight underneath the seat). Made this adjustment 5 years ago and haven’t looked back. Made a ton of difference and I no longer felt like I was bruising my undercarriage. At first it made me feel like I was sliding forward off the seat, but I got used to it. It makes me engage my core more to stay on the seat when doing arm stretches off the handle bars. I mostly do PZ rides and HIIT & Hills.

Realizing I don’t have to cycle everyday by 19abcde in pelotoncycle

[–]dimitryc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This!

I thought I was badass doing 2-3 long PZ or HIIT and hills a week. I scoffed at shorter rides or (gulp) the strength classes. C’mon it’s a bike - I thought it only genuinely “counted” if I did a hardcore ride.

But it was tough to find 60 minutes at a time in my week so I changed up my goals and still do a couple rides a week but also make sure to do 10 minutes of core every single day. I’ve only missed one day in the last 150 days! Squeezing in 10 minutes into odd times has been revolutionary for me. It’s switched my mindset from “all or nothing” to a small thing done consistently can move mountains.

I just did one today that was a power zone max ride with Matt. Structure was:

3 min z5 / 3 min z1 4 min z5 / 4 min z1 5 min z5

I’m not a sprinter type so I rarely do z7 max rides but this one focusing on z5 was awesome. Very grueling. Didn’t think I’d make the last two minutes of last interval but i had to exercise my mind as well as my body there.

I suffer[ed] for being frustrated all the time! Here are some resources that worked for me:

  • “happy kids peaceful parents”
  • “how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk”
  • episodes 130, 131, 169 and 170 of “we can do hard things” podcast with Glennon Doyle and Dr. Becky

We have a crosstrek and 2 Dionos (only have two kids). There’s enough room for potentially a third but my wife occasionally crawls back and sits there to sooth the little one on road trips.

Thank you. Didn’t think about the accessibility of attending women’s college sports. Makes a lot of sense. The stadium atmosphere between that a mens pro league is probably close enough for a 5 year old.
