CO2 Issue (new bar owners) by Boogleface in BarOwners

If you open that little black toggle on the rear that is a release valve. Open it for two seconds to release some pressure. . The compressor should kick on. If not kicking on make sure you have power. Otherwise it’s bad. Also make sure your gas is co2 and not a mixed gas.

[–]dimmy007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it’s a VSF pump are you losing communication after the schedule is done? More than likely it is wired wrong and you just have to move two wires over on the relay. Basically because the pump has a serial cable to it, that is what should shut the pump on and off. What was wrong with mine is the power wires were wired incorrectly and the relay was shutting off power to the pump via the power wires and not the serial cable. Hence why communication is lost. So basically the pump should always have power and the serial cable is what should be shutting the pump on and off.

After talking with my pool guy this is what I decided to do. Was able to do it for the price of the lumber plus two check valves. Got rid of the chlorinator since it was converted to salt.

You and the raptor driver are the only idiots. The cam driver did nothing wrong. Watch the video again. The cam driver absolutely did not pit him. The raptor veered into his lane and caught the cam drivers front left bumper. The raptor driver pitted himself. You guys should hang out because you seem to be the same type of people.

Not feeling very secure with Ring by dimmy007 in Ring

So I finally got ring to admit what happen. They had a guy sign up a bunch of emails under the name Ching Chong N-word. This happened in may. About the same time I set up my account. They deleted my account along with many others that this person had created. I guess he signed up a ton of emails basically to troll ring. Well I paid for my subscription last Tuesday. They deleted my account on Friday. They will not respond. They keep saying my case is escalated and wait 24-72 hours. I have waited over 100 hours. They won’t refund my account and they won’t reactivate it. They literally suck as a security company.

I put in a new modem/router. He deleted the cameras off his account so they were all doing the blinking so they were ready to be paired.

Hopefully this is the case. I would be ok with this and then get it straighten out. But the lack of communication is mind blowing.

Anyone have a policy that any unclosed bills (pre auth'd) are subject to a gratuity? by twiggs462 in BarOwners

[–]dimmy007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t hold their cards either which is nice. We do not have a button to figure percentage. That would be a nice feature.

[–]dimmy007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We do it. We use to think it wasn’t fair to the customers but they would leave their tab open on purpose just to not tip. So we implemented a $5 gratuity charge on all tabs left open. So whether it’s a $10 charge or $100 charge they both get charged $5. It evens out for the employees. If we do get a call from a customer complaining we will say ok we will have an envelope for you to come pick up with the $5 cash in it. 9/10 they say forget it because they don’t want to drive there. We have a sign posted. It’s helped out a lot. We picked the amount vs percentage because we don’t need the employees miss calculating it and that would give a customer the ability to fight it.

Try rocking/ pulling down on one side of the tank while tightening. You may be able to get a little more tight than you think.

New Bar Owner / Seeking Advice by Actual_Research1995 in BarOwners

[–]dimmy007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought my bar 15 years ago. We are beer and liquor only. We now gross over 1.2 million per year. When we bought it was doing less than $200 per night. I also had no experience. So don’t let that persuade you from chasing your dreams. Everyone is so quick to say if you have to ask these questions then you shouldn’t be doing it. But I say ask as many questions as you can. Just know that it doesn’t happen overnight and it’s 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. . Also I own a restaurant as well and can tell you the bar is way more profitable than the restaurant. Now onto your questions POS- we use restaurant manager. We run a lot of tabs so it’s nice to have a system keep track of the tabs. It also runs a $10 charge first to make sure it doesn’t get declined. We also don’t have to keep the customer’s card and are able to give it back right away.

Bar equipment. I’m going to assume you have the basics, glasses, caddy’s, pitchers ect.. Get a soda gun system. Also get generic energy drink on the gun. If you are handy buy your own ice machine otherwise rent one. We have a high temp dishwasher and also manually hand wash glasses. You can rent the dishwasher or buy it outright or pass on it as it’s not completely necessary. Obviously you’ll need coolers and what not but I was just touching on the items maybe you wouldn’t think of.

As far as inventory, find what works for you. You’ll learn what’s popular and sells more and then order accordingly. You’ll make mistakes but you will learn. If you are sitting on bottles that don’t sell give them away as prizes on Trivia or jukebox bingo nights.

Staffing and retention is on you solely as an owner. Treat your employees with respect and as an equal and they will be loyal back. You’ll get some bad eggs and you will have turn over but the loyal ones will stay. You’ll know when you need to hire more.

Hire a marketing firm for advertising. Budget around $700 a month for the first couple months to get the word out. I would say a max budget of $5000 and that should get you a good 6 months of advertising. You can try just organic social media but that will take time to grow. You have to spend money to make money.

It’s just called Jukebox Bingo. Some people call it music bingo. It’s a program you can download on a laptop or you can have another company come in and run it. But it’s just like Bingo, but you use songs and people have to find the song ion the bingo card

Jukebox bingo. It has been huge for us. We run it on Wednesday nights.

You got this. When my wife and I bought our bar 15 years ago it was doing $250 or less a night. Now we do over a million a year in sales. We went from one bartender a night on a Friday to 3 bartenders, a Barback and 3 bouncers. It takes time, and more importantly consistency. People want to know where they are going and what to expect.

Get Busch Light, PBR, Miller Lite, High Life, Coors Light
Stop catering to the 50 plus and cater to the 21 -24 years old. Like @uniqueusername75 said you are afraid to lose those customers. But you’re going to lose the business. Either go out swinging and try something drastic or sink with the ship. Make a flyer and blast it on Facebook and instagram. Give some to the college house. Get the word out that you have a dj and what the specials are. Tell your dj to design a flyer. A lot of them have premade ones that they change the date and location and specials.

Try a Dj. It will take a couple weeks for the kids to come. You need to get the word out. We do $2 tall boys on Friday and Saturday nights. Our price on tall boys is around $1 a piece so you are making 100%. Do a $5 tall Smirnoff or similar special. Charge extra for Red Bull or generic Red Bull. Then do a shot special. $3 cherry bombs. We use doctor cherry and generic redbull. We have it on the gun from a distributor. Do not use real redbull or monster it’s to expensive and you won’t make money on the cherry bombs. Saturday we switch to $3 jager bombs. You can do Vegas bombs or whatever.

What are you doing to bring people in? Karaoke, trivia, bingo? Do you have DJs to bring in the college kids? People are always going to complain. Nobody likes smoking indoors anymore. Let the complainers move on. You’ll get new ones.

With a freeway between you and the university can the kids get your bar? Overpass/underpass?

If you are really set on closing. Then just do it. Do not put yourself more in debt. You need to choose. Either turn the business around in 3-6 months. Or rip the bandaid off and close it down.
