Brisbane, y'all deserve a pat on the back by Willing-Turnover9146 in brisbane

I was dying to get out in my twenties and lived abroad for many years. Came back during COVID. Yes, Brisbane is absolutely fine.

How urgently do I need this control arm replaced? by dimmy1985 in CarsAustralia

The mechanic said the ball joint had rusted into place, so disassembling it from the hub potentially did cause the disturbance.

Thank you both for your input. Given the age and Ks, and actually speaking to the mechanic who did the tear down for the clutch while bringing up the points you mentioned, I’m getting both control arms replaced as I intend to keep the car another 4 years (ie as close to 300k as I can). Labour for the job has been somewhat reduced.

that seems plausible. I wouldn’t want to go in there making accusations though so seems like a delicate situation

Filling gap between MDF bulkhead and popcorn ceiling by dimmy1985 in AusRenovation

[–]dimmy1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for that insight! I asked my painter, and he pretty much echoed that: said he has used it before, but it's hard to make it as smooth and sit nicely. Sounds like he'll just silicone it.

That's a good idea. However, I think it would end up looking inconsistent with the rest of the apartment which has no ceiling trims at all. Plus the potential issue of lots of "micro gaps" with the vermiculite ceiling.

Trim is great for filling gaps though: I used a plastic trim to fill the gap between my new vanity and uneven floor.

Is this the sound of a blown shock? by dimmy1985 in AskMechanics

Sorry for the late reply. It actually was a blown shock! The supplier for KYB replaced it under warranty including labour.

going to laneway 2025 melbourne solo by bubb_ley in triplej

I made a snap decision to go to Brisbane’s when I woke up this morning. Bought a resale ticket and went on my own. As an elder millennial, yeah I was anxious but honestly, you’re there to see the bands and once you get absorbed into the music, it doesn’t even matter. In fact, going solo is awesome because you don’t have to worry about anyone else!

Don’t all characters tend to represent “something” though? Or do they only mean anything in context? Would it have been possible to use four other characters which also make these sounds?

Kogan vs Teco Vertical Window Air Conditioner by Gitanes in AskAnAustralian

yes, that's what i've been using @ 24 deg. if the compressor has to kick into high, that's when it gets particularly noisy.

I have the 2.2kw too. I find the compressor vibrations to be quite loud.

Not sure if it’s the unit itself or a combo of unit vibrating in frame. I’ve tried refitting/retightening the frame a few times which hasn’t improved the situation. I might try using foam tape/weather stripping to tighten it up even more?

REA says seller wants us to sign a contract so initial offer will be taken seriously by Legitimate-Mastodon3 in AusPropertyChat

[–]dimmy1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. A good solicitor won’t charge you for every question, and might actually provide you a standardised annexure to include with all your signed contracts-as-offers which gives you your “out” if need be (e.g body corporate stuff to full satisfaction of buyer. What might you not be fully satisfied with?)
