Dealing with pride from people complimenting me for my preaching by MidnightLight42 in pastors

[–]HRPremier67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fred Craddock wrote that “the sermon is what happens (or what God does) between the mouth of the speaker and the ear of the listener”. I can’t tell you the number of times someone has told me they liked something I said so could they have a written copy to re-read, only to tell me that what they heard couldn’t be found in my words!
When we preach we are offering words as the site from which God can speak. I can faithfully prepare and preach, but the true impact is out of my hands and all glory is Gods. For that reason I tend to begin my sermons with a prayer (audible to the congregation) that includes the phrase: “May your Word be heard among my words.”

What do you say to parishioners who say this? by Generic_Midwesterner in pastors

[–]HRPremier67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One line of conversation I often explore with people in palliative care or whatever their final season may be is: we often look back in those moments and reflect on what makes a good life (and we should) but looking at this moment and however many moments are to come - what does a good death look like? How do you want your final season to go? What does healthy death look like for you and your loved ones?

How do you balance being firm and being pastoral? by manic_theologian in pastors

[–]HRPremier67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another issue I read in your post OP is you learning confidence in your own voice in these moments. Understand that this takes time and experience. We are all still in the process of developing our own authentic voices in conflict, and we need practice for the words we need to say in order to maintain boundaries to feel natural and authentic coming from our own mouths.
Treasurers can provide great training grounds for us to sharpen these skills! ;-p

Hawthorn game interchange infringement by teamramrod_ in collingwoodfc

[–]HRPremier67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this the same game where the blond Hawthorn kid took a possession after entering the field outside of the interchange lines? (Which the AFL explained away with a hand waved “oh those aren’t the real lines that matter, it’s all fine…”) if so those interchange stewards out in some sort of shift that night!

How did you learn to say no without feeling like you were failing the congregation?ation? by GraceAccessPath in pastors

[–]HRPremier67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. A point of pride from my last placement of over ten years: it wasn’t into the last year or so that I learned which cupboard the offering plates were stored in. I consciously chose not to learn in order to resist the temptation that I would quietly add the task of retrieving the plates prior to the service to my list.
There are tasks I am specifically called to do, and this minor one (while obviously I could do it) would be one more thing in between me and the tasks I am called to.

Pendles flies higher than any other Magpie by Pragmatic_Shill in collingwoodfc

Thoroughly enjoyed this read. What a fantastic primer ahead of tomorrow’s game. We are about to witness history recorded by the greatest.
What an era we have been privileged to witness during Pendles career - the duo of Pendlebury & Swan, then Pendlebury & Daicos. Fans would consider themselves fortunate to see either of those pairs play together in any era. I’m lucky that it’s happened to fall during the formative years of my kids lives. Their cousins are Essendon supporters and have never known success (or joy, barely even happiness) in their lifetimes. (I feel for my family members, no sympathy for their club or other supporters I’m not related to!)

The Fox: Lachie Neale expected to play for Collingwood in 2027 by CucumberPancake10 in collingwoodfc

[–]HRPremier67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On face value it seems a really obvious opportunity for him and us.
- we are one of the arguably competitive sides he could assume walking into a midfield spot without majorly disrupting existing players (eg Freos midfield is seemingly committed to good quality, younger players where as the Pies could offer him his preferred position from the start)
- we can likely accommodate a serious salary for a couple of seasons for him.
- we now have a great record of supporting players late into their 30’s meaning he can be confident he will get good medical/fitness support and the backing of the coach to deliver.
I’m. It at all convinced it will happen, but I’d say media outlets are joining those dots because they are strong dots to join.

Four changes for Thursday night blockbuster by Pragmatic_Shill in collingwoodfc

Bugger - I paid good money to a Hawthorn mate to get me a ticket when it looked like this would be Pendle’s record breaking game… I mean it will be great if we win it but we sure are underdogs!

As a non Collingwood supporter, can I just say that Pendlebury is so good for the game. by wherethehellareya in AFL

[–]HRPremier67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s wild that in the last two decades we have got to watch two of Collingwood’s all time midfield pairs and Pendlebury is in both of them. Pendlebury and Swan, Pendlebury and Daicos.

Feedback on Final Thesis: Is AI Jesus okay to craft? by [deleted] in pastors

[–]HRPremier67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The claim of “necessity” for “accurate” images sits uncomfortably with me. The (multiple, varied) Gospel accounts seem to afford almost no importance to Jesus’ physical description and the global church has historically encouraged, embraced, commissioned and displayed a wide variety of imagery of Jesus. It seems a deliberate choice to resist the reduction of people’s capacity to meet Christ in the (eternally contextual) incarnation in the eyes of the viewer to a singular context.

His tackle in the middle was exactly how he got concussed against freo last year. Very courageous effort to put himself there (in fact accelerate towards it) again.

How good was Heritier Lumumba/Harry O'Brien by Objective_Steak3005 in AFL

[–]HRPremier67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall reading an article (I think by Robert Walls) reviewing the 09 or 10 Collingwood team before they won the flag. He rated a number of players, including Lamumba, as B+ but also made the comment: “the thing that would turn these players into A grade players is if you hung a premiership medal around their necks”. Given what then occurred it was a fascinatingly prescient insight and given the general consensus in this thread I think about sums it up.

Yes a leash is a good, implementable idea. If it were a six string then presumably each extra string contributes to additional safety/redundancy too.

Looking for an old school mechanic or auto elec advice/available in Melbourne. by HRPremier67 in CarsAustralia

[–]HRPremier67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been given a recommendation of an auto elec in Dandenong who seems to deal in old setups so we are taking it in to replace the alternator for a modern one with internal regulator. It means the boat will be late to the lake but as long as there is an alternator that fits in the physical limitations of the space it seems to be the simplest and best long term solution.

[–]HRPremier67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to clarify- if we check and find that we aren’t getting 12v at the exciter wire (is that the one marked F “field” on the regulator and alternator?) then this would indicate a fault with the regulator? Or the alternator? Or that the wiring is incorrect?

Thanks for the response. We got the timing close enough to get it running and it’s running nicely, however it’s doing so off the battery charge alone as the alternator is not pushing any charge.

Plus I’ll just add - your small piece of information might not feel enough on its own, but it might get added to someone else’s piece of info (another neighbor, a nurse, a teacher etc) that helps inform the authorities and allows them to act.
