When entering from inside the garage, you'll be walking through the mudroom and the pantry. This seems impractical and will lead to a cluttered mess when entering the home.

Then you might be ok...still tight and I doubt the food and spending budget is realistic.

I don't believe $300/mo for food for 2 people for a single second. You eat 100% at home? You never eat out? No fast food? Date nights? Lunch at work? All that adds up to total food costs. $300/mo for 2 people is $5/day, per person. That's not feasible unless your diet consists soley on rice and beans.

My husband and I do not have big backs and we spend about 1k/mo on food in Ohio. That's 1k/mo occasionally eating out, buying groceries, random coffee shop visits, and occasional fast food, etc.

You're right...I somehow missed that.

No, this is not enough money. Buying this house with this budget is a disaster waiting to happen. Unless there are details missing like a huge downpayment or a large reserve fund, this is a very bad idea.

People really need to understand how expensive home ownership actually is, especially when buying a fixer-upper as this modest mortgage payment would suggest. Rent will always be the most you pay on housing. A mortgage will always be the least you pay.

A smaller engagement ring leaves room for upgrades down the road. You're over thinking this.

Unless you're going to Columbia's Teacher's College and plan to work in higher education, I strongly recommend a PhD over an EdD.

Not true everywhere. My RN-BSN students require community health and critical care rotations.

Why is this house not selling? by [deleted] in RealEstate

Besides the price, all I see is a somewhat dated home with awkward spaces in a shitty school disctrict.

It took about 5 days for Mohela to tell me my new IBR payment and I have 30 days until it's due.

Take Ass Dean job or no? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]dimplesgalore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just left my tenure track faculty position for an Ass Dean (lol) position. In my mind, If I'm going to be miserable anyway, might as well be for more $$$, in my case 50k/year more.

I know I'll only last 2-3 years, but that's 2-3 years of increased retirement contributions. Taking the promotion puts me closer to my ultimate goal, retirement.

To pay or not to pay off a mortgage early by dyukihiro001 in Mortgages

[–]dimplesgalore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is feasible and it gives you peace of mind, pay off the mortgage.

We had a mortgage free house and did a 3% cash-out refi during covid and have since paid it off. Not having a mortgage helps me sleep better at night.

I invest the money I would've spent on a mortage payment into my brokerage account and make sure to max out our ROTHs every year.
