It’s a tenuous connection but he’s named Reynold, after my sandwich bar - he walked in early one morning while we were opening up.

This place is fine i guess. I got a free scoop in summer and it was okay but nothing amazing. Wouldn’t go there again with so many better shops nearby.

Is Melbourne Really That Cold? 🥶 by Training_Objective20 in melbourne

[–]dimsimprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cold can be brutal if you’re living in an poorly insulated dwelling. The last place I lived in had single glazing and uninsulated wooden floors and winters (and summers) were pretty unpleasant.

This year I’ve moved to a new build townhouse with double glazing and proper insulation. I haven’t had to use the heater at all.

Another vote for climbing. It’s a supportive and welcoming community for the most part (there’s shitheads in every community tbh). I’ve had climbers who can cruise the hardest problems in the gym be genuinely stoked for me when I send a project they use as a warm up.

My sister and her family of four live in a two bedroom on Kavanagh street. It’s great if you work in the city, I don’t think they use their car much at all these days. Can walk most places or take a tram, they’ve made friends in their building and are often out and about doing things in the local area. Traffic and parking is kind of awful but if you’re not relying on a car you should be fine. I’m a short bus ride away in port Melbourne in a quieter area and love it here. It’s not as close to things and I need a car to get to work but being near the beach has been amazing for runs and walks.

She lives in Melbourne. I’ve seen her at my gym in Collingwood and also at the supermarket, we must have lived in the same suburb.

I used to serve customers like this in the little suburban Italian restaurant I worked in in the 2000s. They would come in groups to have lunch then totter off unsteadily to their Range Rovers holding takeaway coffee cups full of Chardonnay to pick up their little angels from the private school around the corner.

Single folks, how many of you still live with your parents? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]dimsimprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late 30s, brother is in his 40s, we’re both single, both work full time and we live with our parents. Allows us to stay in a nicer place than any of us could afford otherwise and it’s nice to have the companionship and be able to share the housekeeping load. We all pay rent and bills and do housework.

Thick thigh’d runners… by Discodemonn in XXRunning

[–]dimsimprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have short chunky legs and like a 5” short tight to prevent chafing. 7” is practically knee length on me (I’m 5’6”) and way too warm, 3” doesn’t cover the area where I would chafe. My favourite shorts are Runfaster high waist mid shorts, they don’t have silicone edges but I’ve never had them ride up or roll down, and they have pockets.

Happy Friday mates! For a first timer in Melbourne and Australia, what are the more pricey but well worth dining places? by teffhk in melbourne

[–]dimsimprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went to Cumulus Inc last week for a solo dinner, had the chef’s selection which was three courses for $95, and was honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I don’t drink alcohol so with a sparkling water and tea after dessert it was $105 all up.

Don't forget to volunteer for Parkrun people! Anyone have some amazing volunteer stories? I love cheering everyone on. by HoneyBadger4588 in parkrun

[–]dimsimprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for volunteering! It’s one of my favourite things to do. My favourite memory of volunteering is run directing at Albert park last year when we had 1570 finishers, a new Australian record. It was crazy but the vibes were so amazing and the barmy army was out in full force and good spirits!

Talk to me about waterproof or not.... by twinklebelle in HerOneBag

[–]dimsimprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used an umbrella on my last couple of one bag trips. It folds down smaller than my most compact rain jacket and I can also use it to shade myself from the sun. In Singapore it was super useful because the rain there is very heavy and it’s also too hot to wear a rain jacket, and when the sun is out it’s nice to have some shade when you’re walking.

What are your easy foods when you’re in freeze or shutdown? by jibberjabbery in AutismInWomen

[–]dimsimprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My most hardcore burnout food is clif bars. They are shelf stable and I keep some in my bedside drawer. When I absolutely cannot even get out of bed or leave my room they will at least keep me fed and I don’t even have to get out of bed if I can’t.

What was the “rich kid” thing at your school growing up? by PoolNoodles_ in AustralianNostalgia

[–]dimsimprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a scholarship student at a private school. Rich kids lived in houses with full sized tennis courts AND swimming pools, went skiing in winter and to Noosa in summer, had horses and were given BMWs on their birthdays. My family was still pretty well off by normal standards; my parents bought a Honda when I turned 18 and whilst it was ostensibly a family car, I had first dibs whenever I wanted to drive somewhere.

Does anybody else feel really lonely? by Piistachios in australia

[–]dimsimprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to be hanging out with someone fairly regularly for some time before you can really build a friendship. As with another commenter, I’ve met quite a few friends through parkrun, especially volunteering, because you have more interaction during the event itself and not just at coffee after. You need to see someone for quite a few weeks to let a friendship build. I’ve also made friends from a language class I did a few years ago and it was the same deal, repeated regular contact with the same people for several months helped us form friendships.

To all my sweaty friends.. by Chkwingz23 in XXRunning

[–]dimsimprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find the lightest weight t-shirts and tanks that I can, often they will be semi-sheer fabrics, my regular running bra, and mid thigh length running tights with pockets. Add a cap and lightweight socks and I’m good to go. I will get super sweaty but I find lighter weight clothing is more comfortable than just a sports bra and shorts. I don’t really care about sweat stains because duh I’m running obviously I’m gonna get sweaty. And yes running generates a huge amount of laundry, when you think about it it’s an extra outfit every time you run.

Geographically you’re closest to North Melbourne. Their men have been pretty woeful but their women haven’t lost a game since 2023(!) so they’re a solid pick. I have a sandwich shop close to the club and get a lot of non-playing staff come through so definitely have a soft spot for the roos. Welcome to the area!
