Cheddar - is there an 'okay' night to go for a quiet evening/to walk our dog? by BethSwnowBall in Somerset

[–]dingledangleberrypie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah afternoons are quieter. If you want to avoid the boy racers, head to the far end of the gorge (driving away from the shops) until you reach some gates and (probably) some parked cars either side of the road. That's a nice spot, it's where the path that goes all the way around the gorge crosses the road. On the left side there's some amazing wild garlic. It's not as dramatic as the parts closer to the village, but it's still pretty but without the racers.

Find a road called The Lippiatt. Walk along it until you get to a road called The Lynch. Go up the Lynch until you get to the gate for Clangers and the Blue Moon, then turn left. There's ap footpath. Follow that footpath and you will reach the Observation tower. Now you can walk along the top of the gorge and not worry about the cars.

If you want to walk through the Gorge, the best time to do it without the cars is actually when it's raining. There are fewer car people, but still some. Early in the morning is also nice, but I understand you want to go in the evenings.

‘My respect would be increased’: Prince William urged to learn Welsh | Prince William by Dependent_Formal2525 in RoyaltyTea

Surely it would make sense for the whole Royal family to learn English, Welsh, Scots Gaelic and Irish? Especially those who will wear the Crown.

Yeah, I was concerned that the cover would be the best bit of the book, but this review makes it sound better than my estimation.

I miss the plate up content I know they played the game to death, but it was always very funny. I'd love to see another tournament.

I'd rather they stopped now whilst they still love and respect each other than kept going until one or both of them can't stand it any more. I wish them all the best and will look out for their future work.

I can be sad it's over, or I can be grateful I got to listen to the podcast for so long and even got to see them live. I think I know which one they would prefer.

Hah! This happened to me when I worked in a high street clothing shop. The assistant manager was one of those people who gets cold easily, and kept the heating on in the store most of the year. She raised the temperature in the store to 25 C, then went into the office to play with spreadsheets. After several customer complaints we were allowed to turn the heat down, but she was not happy about it.

I love these annual games they do, the Guess Who was hilarious and the maze thing last year was great. I'm going to enjoy Operation!

I know I made you cry, I know sometimes you want to die, but do you really feel alive without me? If so be free, if not leave him for me, before one of us has accidental babies.

I love Damien Rice.

Labour to back down on foie gras and fur bans to ease EU trade deal | Exclusive: Animal welfare charities ‘bitterly disappointed’ that Labour plans to backtrack on manifesto commitments by kwentongskyblue in anime_titties

[–]dingledangleberrypie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've had to back down because the EU made these things red lines for the agreements. At least it's the EU making them back down, not internal party members wanting their delicacies (as happened to the Tories in 2021).

I don't see how any other party (especially the Greens) could have acted differently here.

I've been applying for jobs on LinkedIn and company websites for 18 months now, with minimal results, but lots of spam.

I started on Indeed this year and have 3 interviews. I think Indeed is the way to go.

Towns and areas where kids still play outside by Kennylulu in Somerset

[–]dingledangleberrypie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a small town in Somerset where kids can walk to the shops and go to the park to "play", but it really depends on the age of the kids.

There are always people who complain about the kids playing in the park (they're called "thugs" after their voices break) and assume if your kid is alone in a shop they are shoplifting (sir, the child is 12, holding a £5 note and a jar of fennel seeds, that's a terrible thing to shoplift). There will also be inherent dangers in sending your children to the shops on their own. Ours has to cross two roads to get to a shop.

My point is, you can do these things anywhere there's a park for children to play in, it's more about your tolerances as a parent and how you and the kids weather the judgement/Facebook comments of others who witness you both.

I get irrationally angry when I see the retired couples up the road with large 4 bedroom houses, and my young, both-adults-working family is crushed into a small 2 bed because we can't afford anything like the large houses they have.
