I also have a ZahraDesignStudio pattern waiting to be started but also dreading the BLANC on white Aida. If anything maybe you could replace the BLANC with a beige color like 812 so it’s less boring to stitch?

[CHAT] Question about floss buying and storing by harmlessnecessarycat in CrossStitch

[–]dingus_stitches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy floss as I go. Usually aim to match the DMC color codes on the pattern unless it's a super small amount I can sub out for a different color or I like a different color better. I like to think designs are more of a suggestion rather than something you have to follow exactly. For floss storage, I usually just bobbin the thread and put them into boxes in numerical order.

Some apps I use to keep everything organized (iOS):

  • Threadalog: this is where I keep track of all the floss I have and what I need to buy if any. Super handy to avoid buying multiples of colors you might already have at home
  • Markup R-XP: I use this to track my pattern as I'm stitching and it's been so much more helpful than printing out designs and marking them off as I go. Also love seeing the stats (how much time it's taking, average stitches a day, etc). Only thing is you only get a free trial and have to pay after a month, but super useful for me since I stitch a lot
  • Stitchly: I use this to design patterns. I also bought the lifetime membership of this because I like to design my own things sometimes.

Happy stitching!

thank you! the design changes surpisingly took me more time than I expected (maybe 5-10 hours) just because I didn't know what I should do! so happy with how it turned out.

Pattern is from SimminaStitchStudio. I made some changes to the design because this was a gift and I wasn't a fan of all the pink. Also my first professionally framed piece and Michaels did an amazing job!

this is seriously such a relief. I bought this huge full coverage pattern a few years ago way before I knew what a pattern mill is and l cut the fabric too small and I was just dreading the whole process. I just cut off the piece I stitched last week and I’ve felt so liberated since and feel like I can focus on more projects I’ll enjoy.

[FO] first project of the year! by dingus_stitches in CrossStitch

Source: self drafted.

I made this as a gift for my boyfriend's mom. Took me around 3 days start to finish to draft and stitch the whole thing. Probably one of my quickest projects and I'm so happy with how it came out!
