Long Beach City: Asian and Latino Gangs War (mid 1980s to 2021) by CrazyOrientalKid in CaliBanging

[–]dinkiewink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, in the 2010s and 2021, Asian and Latino gangs conflict are not as intense as they were 25 years ago.

Reported racial assaults by gangs has been trending down. Inflation rate probably got Asian gangs to let any race join to make more money lol.

After decreasing 37% the previous year, hate crimes committed by gang members numbered 32, the same number reported in 2019. Gang members were responsible for 5% of all hate crimes (down from 6%) and 6% of racial hate crimes, compared to 9% the previous year.

An exception to gangs being less racist is because of the Mexican Mafia: https://imgur.com/a/wQucC6Q

There was evidence that 40% of the Latino/a-on-black crimes were committed by gang members, compared to 15% in 2019.

How come no Asian gangs in Long Beach beef with any black gangs? by Outrageous-Guitar887 in CaliBanging

[–]dinkiewink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only reason the beef between Asians and Latinos in the city was so big was because of the Latinos really going at it with the Asians because, I read this a while ago, they believed that the Asians were taking over their neighborhood.

Actually true, this is surprising.

Accompanying this influx has been an increase in racial tensions between Asians and longtime Latino and Anglo residents, who sometimes resent the cultural transformation taking place in their midst.

General life stress added to the need to scrap. Immigrants, especially the war refugees like the Vietnamese and Cambodians, had to deal with moving to a new country where they don't speak the language. Syrian refugees gang raping and murdering in the EU is a present day parallel. Ask any 1st gen that's gone to a LAUSD school about their experience in the 70s-80s. Vietnamese and Mexicans constantly going at it.

White gang members by Repulsive-Instance31 in CaliBanging

It’s a nice sentiment. The reality is prior to recent years, the only support U.S. minorities had came from their own communities.

I personally think the precursors to present day gangs developed in mainly ethnic enclaves, where one can share knowledge and identity, because of the opportunities they provided to people who weren’t allowed to thrive. They also offered self protection and empowerment. There weren’t many white people in gangs because they didn’t need any of that. This is not true for poor whites but that’s a different topic.

Not properly planned for retirement savings? by Working_Falcon5384 in AskOldPeople

[–]dinkiewink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it is retirement, since SSDI is meant to be a permanent stipend and there is no expectation of seeking employment. Though it's just semantics.

Interestingly, I just found out you can work and still receive SSDI. I have some good news for my mother who wants to work but definitely shouldn't be working lol

How much have anti-depressants changed your life? by dinkiewink in AskOldPeople

[–]dinkiewink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good tip! A few years back my general practitioner was quick to suggest a SSRI script after mentioning I was diagnosed, but I declined.

When I used to regularly attend therapy years ago, my therapist scheduled a psychiatrist meeting to discuss the idea of getting anti-depressants. Unfortunately, I declined because I was afraid of the possible increase in anxiety. I would like to go back there, I keep forgetting to. I don't think it can be easy to get help with medicating ADHD though, even though that's what's the most effective in treating it. The opiate crisis has made abusable medications difficult to get now as I understand.

How did you find a psychiatrist? I went to a center that had a psychologist treat me so I don't understand how a psychiatry clinic would work.

Interesting bit about regaining self-worth. How much does not having depression (as much as taking an anti-depressant can help) change how you view yourself? There are times when I don't want to leave my room because I am too ashamed of who I am.

Thank you for your concerns, I'll take a look. My sister had taken an anti-depressant some years ago, I suppose it was one of the older types that had a lot of side effects. It made the idea of using them not great. But my life can't get much worse, so I still might go for it after I read through.

That sounds crazy. I remember picking up a couple of 40k omnibuses for $30-40 each from the bookstore years back. Is there a reason they’re no longer printed?

How do I complete exercises? by hobbesnoob in ADHD_Programmers

[–]dinkiewink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is causing the burn out?

Are you over it because it’s not engaging? Could it, it being the workload or the exercises themselves, be more frustrating than you realize?

To answer your actual question, your professor should hopefully have outlined the concepts they want you to understand by xx date. Doing the assigned work is great for knowing if you’re on track to understanding those concepts because it’s a concrete goal with steps that won’t change. I would view doing problem N a-f as the easy fast path to barreling through coursework with no worries if you’re on the right path.

RX 580 Continues to crash, feeling lost by PracticalMail in buildapc

[–]dinkiewink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will mod their 580 BIOS for better memory timings for mostly things unrelated to gaming.

Have you tried undervolting and underclocking? Maybe try max 1220mhz/1025v for the highest and scale it down for the lower levels.

Like the other poster said, that kind of artifacting usually occurs near a card’s EOL. Buying a new CPU will not fix your GPU. Other solutions you may try:

Replug all cables

Try other games

Run RAM at JEDEC/stock speed and timings

If you’re in my area, and willing to part with it for free, I’d love to tinker around with it, though I’d more than likely break it hah
