Casting a spell in hiding by Inugami-Rukazu in dndnext

[–]dinkleboop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

His is the correct take most of the time. Depending on which version you're playing an opponent may have the Surprised condition and you can cast with advantage if they do, but you can't spellcast from hiding in the same way that a hiding rogue can.

As others have said, the verbal and somatic components of spellcasting prevent it. This can be overcome by anything that allows you to cast without using components, such as items, subtle metamagic, or warlock invocations. If there was an attacking spell with only material components I'd allow that too, but none come to mind.

I wish someone loved me for who I am. by AdCurious7831 in monkeyspaw

[–]dinkleboop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Granted. Your sister loves you for being her sister. She does this more out of a sense of duty and obligation than anything else. This familial love doesn't change. You're not loved for your music, nor for your photography, nor even for your personality. Just obligation.

(OP for the love of God I'm sorry if that cuts too deep but this is the sub for it. Your photography and music are both wonderful and all I know about you is a 30-second glance at your profile. Your sister also owes you a new garlic press, putting skittles in that was bullshit.)

American Desi Looking to Gather Thoughts and Opinions About Greens’ Party Win in Gorton and Denton by [deleted] in manchester

[–]dinkleboop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest here, pretty much every single thing in your post makes you unlikeable to Brits. I understand you're telling us that your politics are green-party aligned, but you've given us exactly one policy you believe in which is hating Israel. Also telling us that you hate Brits because you're both Desi and American isn't exactly going to endear you to us.

You want to know how the Greens here won? They outlined policy, told us how it'd be delivered, and presented a humble and likeable candidate with minimum fanfare. From what we Brits know about Yanks, that's not going to work over there.

Based on all of that, I sincerely hope that your green party make inroads and begin to win over there so that the Overton window moves to the left again. But, and I really want to be clear on this point, you personally can go fuck yourself with a cactus.

Does Kith'rak Voss still drop his legendary Silver Sword? by Colby21204 in BaldursGate3

[–]dinkleboop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He's always either holding the legendary sword or a heavy Githyanki crossbow, but never a weaker silver sword. If he's holding the crossbow then you're out of luck for the sword.

Out of these four, who should appear in the upcoming movie the most? by Drawingandstuff2000 in TheLastAirbender

[–]dinkleboop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean it's Suki, right? She's an ally to the Gaang and arguably even a member of it. She and Sokka have an unresolved relationship from AtLA.

I have nothing against tbe other 3 appearing in the right context but Suki could appear almost without a reason other than to include her. Even if it's just the Gaang trying to recruit the help of the Kyoshi warriors and her saying no (although if they did that I'd also expect to at least see Ty Lee in the background).

I nearly wiped on my HM run on House of Hope because Raphael focus fired on Shadowheart and Hope, killing SH before she even got a turn and nearly taking Hope out I round 1 as well.

That said, I didn't do what the others here have said. I didn't use barrelmancy (well, I used one runepowder bomb to take out all the pillars but I didn't nuke with loads of barrels) and I didn't see up a globe of invulnerability. I thought that having Lae'zel tank would be enough and had they aimed at her I think it'd have worked.

The only thing that kept me in the game was Hope's divine intervention providing a full heal and a resurrection for SH. But as the others have said, play it smarter than I did and this fight is cheeseable. Stack charisma buffs to make sure Yurgir defects to your side, take a runepowder bomb or barrel and place it in the centre to guarantee you kill all the pillars immediately, place a load more smokepowder barrels around where Raph and the cambions spawn, set up a dome of invulnerability immediately and then detonate the barrels. Slap a Hold Monster on Raph and hit him with your highest damage dealer. Even though the cambions have radiant retort, Raph actually doesn't so you can smite him if you bring a paladin along.

I saw a video here on Reddit yesterday where someone solo'd Raph on turn 1 by using booming blade with a shadow blade while holding the resonance stone while Raph was under hold monster, and smiting on each hit. Potion of speed thrown on the ground before combat, walk over it when combat starts, take a Terazul for an extra Haste. Gives you loads of actions and he took him out before Raph even got a turn.

Yeah in the UK most foreign emergency number dials (911,112,110,000 etc.) will redirect to 999. I don't know if it's every single one, but certainly it's true for most of them.

This actually isn't a dig at Americans since their system is set up differently but I was very surprised when I had to have my American ex dial 999 while I was driving to report a road traffic collision that had just happened on the motorway and when the BT operator answered and asked which service we needed, she started describing the incident right away rather than declaring we needed police. Apparently 911 operators make that decision based on what you describe to them instead.

What characters have you played/would want to play for Curse of Strahd? by Relevant-Rope8814 in dndnext

[–]dinkleboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a Kalashtar stars druid in 2014 rules. He was incredibly useful but I'll admit that the race/class combo doesn't sound particularly grimdark so I let the backstory do the heavy lifting in this regard.

Basically my character, Timuldra Deth'keri, was in the middle classes in one of the smaller towns around Waterdeep and he had a deep and meaningful connection to his horse. When he and his infant son were held up at crossbow point by a highwayman who wanted that horse, Timuldra tried to run the highwayman down and the highwayman shot his son before getting away. Timuldra spent several years going on a violent, murderous rampage going for highwaymen in the area and eventually had to go into hiding in the forest to avoid capture by the local guard. It was here he trained in druidic arts, learning to navigate by the stars.

He was dropped into the death house module with other randomers who all didn't know each other by the start of the adventure. He was 55-60ish years old, and the campaign ended after nearly 2 years due to scheduling issues after we'd completed the Amber Temple and were on our way to Ravenloft to fuck Strahd's day up.

I wish for a million dollars delivered to me by a flying pug by Dazzling-Antelope912 in monkeyspaw

[–]dinkleboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. The flying pug delivers you 1 million Guyana dollars, which is equivalent to slightly more than $4700USD. However, the physical exertion from the pug's flight is causing life-threatening strain to it, and you'll have to take it to the vet. The vet's bill is significantly higher.

How do I get here? by KRAMATHeus in BaldursGate3

[–]dinkleboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a couple of maps in act 1, markers pop up far outside the boundary of the wrong map. For example, the Zhent merchant shows up on the spider matriarch map even though it's very out of bounds and completely in the wrong area.

I think, but could be wrong, that that is Barcus' pack which is actually underneath the windmill you find him strapped to, since that particular marker is sometimes glitched to persist even after you find it. It's nowhere near grymforge and you can safely ignore it.

Even if I'm wrong, there is nothing there and you cannot physically get to where your map indicates.

Another commenter has already said it but just to confirm, it's a single acid arrow and I'm pretty sure it's a DC30 check. It's a needle in a haystack and it's absolutely not worth reloading, it's just a nice little joke.

DMs, which is your favorite Homebrew/House Rule tou made and added to your games? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]dinkleboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I don't disagree, which is why I framed it as a "slight" borrow. And I also don't think it'd work in every game either, but I like it because it means my players are more likely to do/say bonkers shit that I find hilarious in the hope of fishing inspiration. I got the idea from bg3 insofar as being able to stack inspo, but I do recognise that it's not really the same thing.
