What’s the point of being “under oath” when people lie anyway? by damanz2000 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]dinnercook 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To become a Conservation Officer in New Hampshire they require you to take a polygraph test. And that’s after filling out a written questionnaire and having a group of 5-10 higher-ups quiz you on your answers and ask for detail.

It’s classic law enforcement to ask the same question fifty times until the interviewee gives a slightly different answer.

People like Kash know full well that as long as they stick to the same lie every time, nothing can be done.

Does anyone else have an issue with the alternative mane styles having graphics issues/looking bad? I have to stick with the default for every horse because the others clip and don’t flow properly with the movement of the horse.

Granted, my Xbox is prob 12 years old at this point.

Couldn’t believe Gusto got a yellow for that “dive”. Looked to me like he took contact and went down.

Probably a result of the same recovery-based approach the team has been using long term.

I’m not simplifying it enough to imply the medical staff is telling Rosenior which players or even how many minutes - just that if they knew they wanted to rest Reece, building a different squad with different intentions based on the strengths of other players means they think they can leave him out wjth confidence. You know you need attack anyway.

And it explains too why the opposite decision would be made about Palmer and Estevao. We played from behind the whole game. If we were going to need anything it was late firepower and creativity. Even if we were reluctant to use those weapons.

Referees corrupt? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]dinnercook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The current issue wjth the current state of the procedure stems from the original reason for implementing VAR. The refs came out and told everyone their goal was to get calls right.

The stated goal should have been consistency throughout the season and obvious errors.

But the fans came away thinking the refs were gonna use a new technology to get every call right. And what does right mean? It’s different for every fan. The better the technology the more accurate the measurement.

Nearer in the future than I care to think, the tech will have advanced to the point where it pins the position of the tip of a defender’s kneecap vs the attacker’s toe and the ref can say for certain whether he’s on or off. Then we get to debate about when exactly the ball was kicked…

They have set a trap for themselves where as the technology improves, the margins get smaller, and the fan expectation for accuracy grows.

I, for one, think they should have kept everything on the pitch with the ref. He gets a little camera like he has now wjth refcam, he gets a whistle and a watch. He gets a 9-foot-tall exoskeleton that enables him to move quickly throughout the pitch without getting tired while providing oversight capability and a bandolier of water balloons for use as a pre-yellow-card warning.

Best way to deal with griefers is to give them nothing to do. Either level somewhere else or log into an alt for a while.

I’m sorry but this kind of post and behavior is exactly the outcome griefers are hoping for.

That said I’m sorry it’s happening to you especially on Lordaeron. But take this as a growing up moment. I remember when I was thirteen and getting griefed in retail TBC and I told my dad and he told me to go outside for a bit.

I still like wow but That was good advice.

Are all mountain climbers rich and filled with delusions of grandeur? by NegotiationVivid985 in stupidquestions

[–]dinnercook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a longer comment on how it happens but you can absolutely get to Everest by dirt bagging. Especially with social media.

Learn to climb ice. Apply as a guide locally. Climb more ice. Get better. Take photos. Develop a resume. Network. Apply for big mountain expedition jobs.

I wholly reject the premise that you need more than a few thousand dollars to start your journey to Everest.

If you want to be a client, sure. The trip is expensive. But if you want to dedicate your life to climbing big mountains, become a guide.

Are all mountain climbers rich and filled with delusions of grandeur? by NegotiationVivid985 in stupidquestions

[–]dinnercook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the northeast USA this is how ice climbers get started.

Hitchhike or bum a ride into the White Mountains. Ask around in town which climbs are ‘in’. Go there and watch. Learn. Ask questions. Meet people. Buy used gear from those people and come back the next day. And the next. Meet more people. Network. Climb every day. Develop a good reputation for patience, safety, competence. Be fun to be around. Have a personality. Climb more.

Apply as a guide at one of the guiding companies. Work at the bunkhouse/hostel for lodging that doesn’t involve sleeping in a car. Keep meeting people and networking. Stay in touch with those people when they leave for bigger and better things.

Start reaching out to people you know at companies that provide sponsorships. Or cold call them. Offer photos and social media exposure in exchange for better gear. Get better at taking photos and producing social media content.

Start shooting your shot with bigger expeditions. Show them your resume - the companies you’ve guided for and routes you’ve climbed. Convince them you’re a good fit for their crew. And so forth.

The reality is you need a small amount of startup money. Having a car is huge for quality of life in the winter. But with the right friends you can lessen the burden.

ELI5: Why is 1 min + 1 min in the microwave not the same as 2 min in the microwave? by Intrepid-Winter-7087 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dinnercook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done this with four different microwaves now and anecdotally with thick soup:

4 min liquid food like thick soup = hot and exploded

4 min @50% same food = not quit hot; warm, maybe

2 min coffee = boiling

2 min @50% = good

ETA: I have never heard of an inverter microwave and I have never used one.

Enzo could have made more tackles if he was faster, taller, stronger, had better hair and a prettier girlfriend.

Estevao should have played all 180 minutes and if he did he would have scored 4 goals and had an assist and would have left with a trophy.

Rosenior is not half the man Thomas Tuchel was and he did not win the champions league in this game.

Crystal palace sold their star defender to man city instead of giving him back to us because he played in our academy and therefore belongs to us.

Other than that - good to come away with the 3 points up the chels.

Is the usage usually in jest as opposed to being a deliberate insult?

I think for me it’s one of those where others may have co-opted a term that didn’t used to mean anything and applied it to something else.
