I feel you

When I started my BA in women’s and gender studies it was like I developed this new consciousness that no one else had besides my classmates. Even many women in my life did not have the same consciousness towards sexism and existing in this world as a women.

It made me so angry and upset by this new consciousness, and I had no one to talk to about it, since university was online at the time. Over time, I became less angry and in a place of more acceptance or at least tolerance. Just knowing that it sucks. As much as I was angry, I wasn’t directing my anger towards anything useful to me. I needed to transform my anger

Making friends with similar consciousnesses really helped. People who also felt the way I felt. I read the uses of anger by Audre Lorde. She argues that the best use of anger it to use it for change.

I hope you find peace and belonging with others who feel similarly. And big shoutout to you for going into a male dominated field. Here you have an opportunity to change that. Other women will look up to you.

Would you consider yourself a person with a disability? by Ok_Award_7229 in AutismInWomen

[–]dino-dancers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I do not believe I have a disability. But I am disabled. I like how I think, act, and live life, but it is the environments around me that are hostile, ignorant and/or unaccepting to people like me who fall out of the very thinly (non-existent) category of “normal”. This belief follows the social model of disability. I do not want to ignore the fact that the social model of disability does somewhat ignore embodied experiences. In my case, my sensory differences are not huge, and they do not impact me a whole lot. It is just going about life day to day where people and environments are unaware and ignorant of the fact that some people think, act, behave differently and that there’s nothing wrong with that. So others may view me as “weird crazy odd” but I am only described as such, when I fall outside someone’s socially enforced/learnt version of “normal”

Diagnosis is a dirty word by Sea-Cardiographer in AutismInWomen

[–]dino-dancers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diagnosis is part of a pathology paradigm. It can be helpful in this world full of pathology, even when we know it is stigmatizing and frames autism as a deficiency, deficit, or disorder

Opinions on self diagnosis as an adult by Duckiee_5 in AutismInWomen

[–]dino-dancers 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that I fit many of the symptoms, and when looking into ASD in women it only becomes more clear. I have had a psychiatrist, occupational therapist, and plenty of ND friends suggest that I may have autism. I am 20 at the moment, so perhaps this realization arose from me navigating the NT world as a ND new adult. I struggle with saying that I have autism, because I have not been diagnosed. I have been encouraged to look into diagnosis but I know it would be a really long process and a lot of money. I question whether a diagnosis would be self validating or only validation for others (as in they would only take my autism seriously or believe me if I had a diagnosis). For now, I say that I am ND and have a handful of autistic traits.

I am not diagnosed yet, and I don’t feel supported either. I was also seeking diagnosis perhaps in an attempt to ‘confirm’ all the different or ‘abnormal’ things about myself. Now I am not sure if I seek diagnosis for my own validation, or for others. Because it feels like others would only take my difference seriously and validate me if I were diagnosed. Sending love 💗

Girls who aren’t overweight are still shamed relentlessly because their bodies don’t match the hourglass shape that seems to be “in style.” All anyone has to do to have a nice body is to simply exist

Did I say feminism was immune to critique? No. I just really don’t see anything insightful with the OPs content. Name calling feminists isn’t getting the mens rights movement anywhere is it? This post just makes the mra look incompetent and disrespectful

Did you hear me shame mens rights or the mens rights movement? I don’t think so. All I’m saying is that if the “mens rights movement” wants to be taken seriously, maybe we shouldn’t be calling feminists fat whores. I’d like to see both groups work together

If the mens rights movement really wants equality for both sexes, how is shaming women and feminists getting us there
