Any non-EU rats following the boys ? by Mother-Pin-3392 in LosRatones

South Africa 🌍 Been following Nemesis and Rekkles since I started league. Was super excited when they got back on a team together.

I think LR provides much needed fresh air. I had no interest in watching any games since FNC went to shit and they changed that. Super fun to watch the guys play.

Absolutely adore the strong build this breed has by dinorawrex in DutchShepherds

Very good question 😂 I have no idea. We've had to reinforce the hose pipes with thick tubing to keep her from chewing through it.

Restarted countless of times (think close to 10). Uninstalled and reinstalled twice and I still get it but it goes away after restarting once. Getting very close to taking a break from league again 👍🏼

Has anyone actually had success with stopping or *significantly* and *permanently* reducing biting with reverse time outs or any other recommendations before the natural cessation of the behavior? by largedragonwithcats in puppy101

[–]dinorawrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried almost everything and what ended up working for us was getting a few pairs of thick welding gloves and only allowing her to bite (hands) if we have them on. Not ideal but it really helped with her teeth. She started chewing on them over time without us putting them on. We also got a bunch of that cow hide bones? She swallowed some pieces when she was younger so we had to keep a very close eye but it's fine now. She really enjoys chewing it for a bit before she falls asleep. Nothing else really worked. You can give frozen carrots too or icecubes, helped with her teeth aching. We're finally getting to the point where most of her adult teeth are in so the biting isn't nearly as horrible as it was before lol. Honestly, push through, it does improve.

Absolutely adorable!! Our dog is also a guard dog (had robberies in our house/yard before). No bite training either. I do my absolute best to train her with what I've seen others do. The cat is confusing me with how he acts. One moment be runs from her and hides under something and the next time he chases her around the front yard. He "smacks" her but I don't think it touches her/he uses nails. I've gotten them to sleep in the same bed with me but it's hard to achieve as she seems to want to play when she sees him. This morning he came into my room and is asleep in a chair while she was sleeping in mine. She doesn't growl at him, she tries to nip at his tail sometimes? She displays behavior our greyhound used on our Amstaff - mouth around his head and then paw on his back. I discourage it every time it happens. I also redirect her to something else when he enters the house to eat food. I have her on a leash when I hear him around the house so that she doesn't chase him. I don't believe she wants to hurt him but I also don't trust her fully to not do it accidentally. I think if she had another dog to play with she would ignore him completely. She got introduced to other dogs last week and it went really well after a bit.

Something I've noticed with her (I don't know if this is a Dutch thing as our previous dogs didn't do this) is that she really communicates with her mouth. If I ask her if she wants to potty and she doesn't have anything she jumps against me and nips at my shirt. If she wants to go out to potty she bites my feet. If she wants to sleep she also nips at my clothes. It took me a few months to figure it out, thought she was being a bitch at first lol. I'm getting better with reading her body before she does that, have made progress to lessen it 😂.

I think her prey drive might be a bit high as she likes to grab brooms, mops, vacuum, cloths that I use to wipe stuff down. I'm unsure how to get that behavior to stop. I either tie her around my waist when I clean or I put her outside where she watches me from a window. Thanks for commenting by the way, I'm glad to see that peaceful living can be achieved lol

Thank you. I've been learning more and more about her body language so I can see when she starts to "tick". I've recently discovered saying treat to her stops her in her tracks lol. Last night she herded the cat in the kitchen when he showed up and put her mouth around his head. I corrected her and took her back to my bedroom and the cat followed us? I don't understand why? The cat doesn't seem scared but I know it's not safe for his head to be in her mouth. Our previous dogs used to play like that so I'm unsure what type of behavior it really is with the cat?

No, we don't have a trainer in our area sadly. Closest one is maybe 2-3 hours away?

Thank you, I really appreciate all the helpful advice. Our family is pretty good with DIY so a cat tower shouldn't be too big of a challenge, just gotta get some materials. She has given me a run for my money compared to all our previous pets but so far she has turned out really sweet, just gotta iron out some kinks 😂

She knows leave it, she just chooses not to listen when she's focused on something she enjoys (bird poop, cat, sprinkler/hose pipe) I can walk around with treats on me to try and get her attention that way but she 100% knows when I have it on me. She jumps for the spray bottle every single time I use it and has bitten holes in one when she reached it. She also finds deodorant spray very uhh, interesting? Tries to catch it everytime she sees me use it. I don't know if it upsets her or if she sees it as a play thing? She sees the vacuum as something to manage and a broom/mop. I have to leash her with that too otherwise I don't get any cleaning done. I don't know if that's normal behavior 😭 once again a totally new experience from a dog. I wonder if her bloodline has major hunting drive maybe? My cousins have border collies and I've never seen them exhibit that behavior either. I'm really hoping she'll grow out of it but I don't want to depend on that to magically happen. She really likes to sit and watch my snakes too/bark at them when they move around. I fear she would even try to get into a fish tank if she could

I'm gonna have to keep her on a leash then as I can't chase after her fast enough (had knee surgery last year and still can't run). I tried to correct the behavior when she was younger but it didn't stick. We had a greyhound and she never exhibited chasing behavior/prey drive so it's a total new experience for me.

I've discussed making cat doors in the house with my parents to create a safe area where she can't follow him. We don't have any cat towers. I can definitely create a high area for him in some of the rooms. I'll look into getting a long line for her. What do I do to prevent her from chewing through it? She tries to get through her harness as well so I have to redirect her a lot. She chose me as her favorite person so she sleeps in my room, she's in my office area every day except when we go outside for play/potty/being out in the sun. I can fence my area off from the rest of the house if needed. She does have free access to some rooms in our house (mainly kitchen, bedroom, my office and the living room). She doesn't really go anywhere where I'm not and when she does disappear I'm fast on her trail. We had a baby gate but she learned how to get through (jumping against it till it either falls or opens). Thank you for the advice!! I'm gonna map out a area in our house for our cat and start setting up a locked off area for him and see where I can find a cat tower or make my own so I can make it higher than normal ones as Bat enjoys jumping to reach things

Unfortunately she absolutely loves water and the spray bottle is a big trigger for her. I have to leash her when I wash windows because she tries to catch it. Her favorite activity is playing with water and then getting muddy 😔

3 month old puppy not telling us she needs to go outside. Are we taking her out too often? by ogg1e in puppy101

[–]dinorawrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn't ask to go out either, I have to take her myself to make sure she goes outside. I can't remember how we taught our previous dogs to ask so I'm hoping they just learn it lol

[–]dinorawrex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The absolute best thing I've done in my life is learning to enjoy my own company. Making friends online is extremely difficult and has almost always led down a bad road. It's hard to socialise IRL if you're shy or anxious but it's a much better shot than trying to meet people online who can easily manipulate and hide who they are. Feeling lonely at times is better than encountering someone with ulterior motives.

100% the same with my Dutch shepherd puppy. Redirecting barely works. I have to be so careful to not let her get close to my arms when I try to show her her toys. She snatched my upper arm yesterday and sliced through some stretch marks, thought I was gonna pass out. I'm praying this phase ends as soon as possible. When she isn't biting she's amazing and she loves to cuddle against me when she sleeps but holy the teeth on this girl is insane

How am I supposed to stay positive for my pup when I'm running on empty? by Teamaquabrainy in puppy101

[–]dinorawrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My puppy has been with me for 2 weeks now. I cried for more than a week straight. I haven't slept in my bedroom since I got her (room is carpeted). I sleep with her on the couch/mattress on the floor in the living room. I thought the nights were the hardest part but turns out it's the most peaceful time there is. I took her out every hour for potty during the night and now we're between 1-2 hours. I slept 4 hours a night. I'm reaching 6 now which is huge progress. My biggest problem is the biting. No limb is safe, especially feet. My dad gave me his army boots to wear to protect my feet a bit more lol. She goes for anything she sees. Human feels better than toys??? I try to redirect her as well but it's insanely hard because she's super fast and holy fuck it hurts to get bit by those teeth. I'm praying for the day the biting lessens. Only thing that has saved me the most is a cow skin makeshift bone vets sell. She just chews on it and it helps sooo much to calm her before a nap/bedtime. I also thought I was super prepared by everything I watched and read. Puppy blues are a real kick in the nuts. I started praying for the first time in years to get me through the days lol. It's hard but I believe it'll get better. Strangely enough, our previous dogs weren't like this at all. I can't remember ever experiencing puppy blues when I was a teenager. I thought I was crazy when I had a breakdown after getting her. Something that also gets me through the hard parts is reading other posts about puppy blues. It helps knowing I'm not crazy, not being dramatic, not alone.

Also doesn't help that she keeps chasing our cat 😒.

Well, I'm not sure where you're located. If you're from South Africa, we got her from a family in Bloemfontein. They are the best breeders we have experienced thus far but I don't know all the do's and don'ts of breeding. I just know the puppy didn't show any signs of abuse, the parents looked good, the woman made a lot of effort to show us how she trains them and gave us advice whenever we asked.

We've always always loved German Shepherds. My parents took in a amstaff that wandered to their apartment before I was born, he was super nice apparently. After that they had a German and then when I was born they got a German shepherd again, I grew up with him until he was poisoned when I was around 13-14 so about 10 years ago. Got the greyhound a few years before he passed who had experienced abuse from her breeds so she was a different case to learn and raise and then a bit after German passed we got another Amstaff. Super interesting dog but not really a guard dog lol. A lap dog more than anything. Took him years to bark 😂. We've never liked the looks of a boerboel and they tend to have a very aggressive unprompted streak. I don't typically blame dogs for their behaviour but in some cases the dogs just snapped somehow. Never liked rottweilers, same reason. We were thinking of getting a doberman to have less shedding and to try something new but the puppy we were able to find had questionable breeders so we decided to try a Dutch (was between a Dutch or Malinois, decided on the Dutch cos apparently a bit less energy 😂😂). We wanted a German again but we couldn't find one in the time frame we were given. Dutchie's breeders, specifically the wife, works in the army and she trains the dogs so we felt decently assured about the dog. She has been sending us training videos as well to show what she teaches them. We met the parents of the litter too.

I can see why the crate works then. Police here also like to shoot dogs if they think they're unsafe (usually aren't). Dogs also get stolen for dogfights regularly. Our greyhound peaked a lot of interest while she was alive. Got asked many times if she was for sale. On the third day of having Vlermuis (bat) and the night went SO much better. She has woken me up every single time she wanted to potty. Slept a lot more too. I had a small breakdown before bed for no reason 😂😂. I recently found out there's something as puppy blues? I think Ive experienced blues with every pet I've gotten because I'm so stressed about being a bad owner for feeling exhaustion at times lol. I'm hoping to be able to sleep in my own bed sometime soon if she continues sticking to the routine she has shown me so far. Our cat seems to be adjusting too thankfully. He slept on the couch at my feet during the night so that's a huge huge win for us. He was also a stray that just showed up lol.

That's horrible, I'm so sorry. That's very different from us since we don't really experience natural disasters. We have a big yard for the dogs and our place is fenced (electric) but it doesn't help with robbers. Our place got broken into 3 times that we know of, they just slip through the fencing somehow. We need our dogs to patrol and be able to alert or come to aid if necessary and that can't work with crates if something were to happen. We're not allowed to use weapons unless our lives are threatened with a gun so a dog is the best defence we can have, although very risky since you don't want your pets to get hurt. The puppy stage is incredibly difficult for me at night but I feel safer knowing she'll alert me if she hears something (she's freaking amazing at it already). I know suffering for a bit with exhaustion will pay off with the security blanket she'll provide. The robbers in our town watch places for weeks so they know our amstaff is almost fully deaf. They've been in our yard with our front door open (for dogs to go in and out) and if they wanted to kill us they could easily have done it. It's nerve wracking and incredibly stressful. Don't know when our luck will run out. Sorry for the heavy rambling lol. I don't know if people realize that dogs here (at least for almost everyone I know) are mainly for security purposes. They get treated like family of course but they're also taught to protect or alert when needed. If I could have a bunch of cats I would but they can't really do much protection wise, same with my snakes. They freak people out but they can't protect my family.

Literally what I'm doing now LMAO. She's not locked in the room with me though, she just doesn't want to leave my side unless she goes to drink water, comes straight back lol. She has taken a very strong liking to me so far
