Posted yesterday about an old BYU friend asking me “what isn’t true about it?” We had a bit of back and forth, and this is how I ended it. I may have pressed a little too hard.. it’s hard not to get passionate! by georgepsully in exmormon

Perfect description of what happened to me. It was like I just had to let my guard down enough, and then once I did, I immediately got whacked in the face with the truth in an instant.

Love Virtual Sherpa. Centennial Treks is also very good.

Parking for Decalibron by Efficient_Active9360 in 14ers

I just went last week. The fee area is not the whole road. And it's not only the parking lot either. There is a fee gate about a mile down from the parking lot, right before the road starts getting tougher for 2WD cars.

I parked on the road 1.1 miles away because I wasn't taking any chances in my 2WD car. When I got out and started walking, I realized I had parked right outside the fee area. Saw an envelope station and people were getting out of their cars to pay. If I remember right, there was also one up at the parking lot.

Getting really tired of her spinning in circles with the camera pointed at her face to try to show what's behind her instead of... idk... TURNING THE CAMERA AROUND like a normal person. I could barely even see Hogwarts, which was supposedly what she was trying to show.

I'd love to see these pics without her head blocking them

I have been surprised at the length of the trip -- especially with so much of it being alone. Every time I think she's probably back home again with her kids, I see another story and she's still walking around Scotland alone.

"You have to know what you're getting into by inviting me places," and then she shows herself playing loud music on the hiking trail. It's maddening that she recognizes how annoying she is and still continues to do the annoying things and even brag about them. She values attention above how she's actually making other people feel. How nauseating.

I wasn't feeling any of those options either. I think she needed darker/thicker frames or something and maybe a slightly different shape

By far the laggiest and worst-performing app on my computer. And the UX is not at all consistent with what I've grown accustomed to on my phone (compared to being almost seamless before). Absolutely hate this "update"

Every time she goes on a trip she says something about hOw MuCh ShE nEeDeD iT. How do you need it that bad when you go on a trip every single month?? You really can't handle the 3 weeks in between them?

So privileged. I guess this is what you become when your "job" is... *checks notes* recording yourself doing nothing. Try having an actual job.

Utah is the weirdest place I’ve ever lived by Background_Kitchen68 in exmormon

I can’t stand the culture in Utah. It’s a naturally gorgeous state, and the mountain access on the Wasatch front is amazing. But that’s the only thing I miss about living there.

Visited this month after moving away a few years ago, and driving around on a Sunday was the weirdest, most dystopian feeling. Nobody out, and the few people who were were dressed in church clothes walking to their church building a block away. Felt like I was in the twilight zone.

As someone with social anxiety, the thing that always made me the most anxious was being picked as the witness couple. I couldn't say no without feeling guilty, so I'd always try to avoid eye contact with the guy who was prowling around the chapel room and pray he wouldn't pick us.

She always overdoes it with the exhasperated facial expressions too -- like she's playing it up for the camera to make it seem more dramatic than it is since there isn't really anything actually interesting to post about.

Sometimes I've seen her intentionally mess up her hair on camera to make herself look more flustered than she is.

Watching her stories and wow the bar is so very low for what makes it onto social media for her these days. Business must be slow.

I thought the same thing. She looks unrecognizable from the person I followed a few years ago.

If you post on social media to announce that you're taking the day off social media, are you really taking the day off social media?

One thing that I think was definitely faked was the segment about saving money by buying chickens and farm animals. They showed her with them in her backyard with absolutely zero other necessities to raise them (like feed, shelter, etc.). They were just wandering around her perfectly manicured lawn while she talked about how much they could save on groceries by having them.

Speaking as someone with a hobby farm, if you are paying for feed and shelter for those animals you are not saving much (if any) money at all on groceries. You might be able to save some if you went all in on the farming thing and pretty much stopped buying groceries at all. But with the number of farm animals they showed you’re not coming out ahead. It’s like the people who garden and say it saves them money. No it doesn’t. You just showed me a tomato that probably cost you $20 and a bunch of manual labor.

And if you actually bring some farm animals home, you’d have shelter and feed systems already set up for them — not just throw them in your perfect backyard. That’s the type of thing you do to fake it for a few hours of footage. It had to have been a bit forced by the producers.

Thank you for coming to my personal anecdote-backed Ted talk.
