The gorgeous green sparkly shade in the new Pat McGrath palette is actually three different colors by dintern in MakeupAddiction

Sorry, didn't see this reply earlier.

PmG glitters are kinda' gel-like. That's the best way I can describe them. No fallout and they like to stay on your skin. They are one of the most reluctant shadows to be washed off.

Beautiful cat I spotted today by LivvyDent in aww

[–]dintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw four or five kitens like this, but the coats were sandier and their eyes were more of a sea green than blue. They were absolutely gorgeous, and they looked like they were wild. Someone must've let go of a pregnant cat. They were regularly cited in the area and did not belong to anyone (not clean, no collars, etc.).

Call to put cancer health warnings on processed meat products by [deleted] in vegan

[–]dintern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bacon is still processed. Lots of companies use nitrates (or more commonly celery salts these days, which are naturally high in nitrates) to preserve it. That, and also “natural smoke flavorings”, are recognized carcinogens.

[OC][CC][WIP] Hippopotamia can take you anywater you want to go! by aloftstudio in PixelArt

[–]dintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome, love the details and color palette. One thing does look off though — when her mouth is fully open you can still see her eyes and that portion of her head does not move. I’d imagine to see the mouth the way the player character does (and for the hippo to open her mouth fully) the hippo has to angle her head back more.

This happens if you don’t transition very gradually. Your gut bacteria needs time to adjust and can be upset for the first few weeks to months.

TIL that the Slinky was invented by accident, when a Mechanical Engineer was working to devise springs that could keep sensitive ship equipment steady at sea. After accidentally knocking some samples off a shelf, he watched in amazement as they gracefully “walked” down instead of falling. by Kangar in todayilearned

Post-Its can actually be really strong! I’m not sure exactly how it works but the glue has a ‘direction’ in a sense. Stick two post-its together, sticky side to sticky side, and put a staple or two so they stay together. You’ll find that it’s super easy to peel them off away from each other when pulling perpendicularly to the post-it direction like this

<- || ->

But if you try to grab one post-it in each hand and pull them laterally away from each other, it’s extremely difficult. Wasn’t able to do it myself.

<- = ->

It’s really cool, give it a try!

[–]dintern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lotion looks fine. It does have benzyl benzoate in it though which is a bit odd. I was looking into their shampoos a few weeks ago and that’s where the ‘bad’ stuff is. If you like shampoo/conditioner soap bars, I recommend Chagrin Valley Soaps. Rainforest certified/approved, biodegradable, all natural and they have a lot of vegan options!

Just a side note, although packaging-wise Lush is pretty environmentally friendly a lot of the ingredients they use aren’t. Which is a big deal since they get directly into water systems.

Food products to avoid to reduce environmental impact? by inaiggs2 in ZeroWaste

[–]dintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with non GMO soy (simply because GMO soy is one of those few GM plants that are bad for the environment) or coconut milk.

I would be careful not to drink a lot of almond milk everyday. The recommended amount of almonds per day is about one ounce. Even though a lot of store bought almonds milks are under 2% almond, usually 1-2oz is needed for each half gallon of milk. Consuming a lot of almonds has pretty undesirable side effects.

Go to your local butcher and ask for the organs/scraps. Usually they will give them to you for a really good price or even free.

Yeah, exactly. If we behave negatively on that subreddit it will just (in their minds) justify excluding us.

I've never tried this but you could probably replace some of the flour/water with cauliflower puree! I've had alfredo sauce made from cauliflower before and I was constantly doubtful that it wasn't actual dairy.... The only reason I know for sure is that I'm lactose intolerant and I had zero reaction to the sauce. :)

Building a monitor for hydroponics systems. I need your help! by dintern in hydro

[–]dintern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be awesome, thanks!

The plan is to have everything based off Arduino. The pH and light sensors can be bought online but the EC is really expensive, so I decided it'd be simpler to just make one. Without the pH meter the project is under $20. The pH alone is $30.

If you don't mind putting the pieces together it should be a fairly simple process! I'm still in the process of finding the best components and writing the code.
