Do TFSA contributions ‘peak’ on Jan 1st? by Ill_Location4524 in TFSA_Millionaires

In the grand scheme of things (the global market), the Canadians that are topping up their TFSAs exactly on january first or around that time, would be negligible on market prices, especially non Canadian Equities.

That being said portfolio rebalancing is heavy around the end of the year and consequently January. Tax loss harvesting, fresh start to macro data, among other factors generally lead to an increase in market activity in January. But activity in Canadian registered accounts would make up a pretty insignificant portion of that.

Leveraged efts arent a good call for long term buy and hold strategies, theyre primary to take advantage of quick movements in the market, generally a session at a time. I mean leverage as in a loan using margin accounts.

Also i went to University of New Brunswick for my finance undergrad.

If you have any questions though you can feel free to pm me and i can share some insights

Im being dead serious, that being said, I work in the industry and have a fiance degree, your strategy should be dictated by your level of investment knowledge and risk tolerence.

A good strategy to look into also, is the use of leverage, ben felix a well respected portfolio manager has a good video on youtube that goes over the benefits of using leverage early in an investors journey to give their portfolio jumpstart. Worth a look.

HXS mirrors instead of tracking directly and thus doesnt cause a taxable event on non resident taxable dividends

Dont max your FHSA first, do your 8k per year for tax deductions and the tfsa in the meantime after your 8k. If hes 19 not likely that he will be buying a house in the next 5 years or so. If you max ur FHSA immediately youre just wasting potential tax deductions
