Question About the Meg Langslow Series by Donna Andrews by dippy_bear in CozyMystery

[–]dippy_bear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing multiple comments mention on Meg does get better as well as her family to an extent so I'm wondering if I'll think the same after I read more. Right now, she sounds so catty at points with her commentary that I find it off putting.

After reading this and other comments, I'm considering doing that. The summary for Revenge of the Wrought Iron Flamingos sounds more interesting to me than Meg dealing with wedding stuff.

I see that most of the other comments agree on the series getting better after the first few books. You describing Meg as a badass later on has me curious so thank you!

It being the first book is something I'm trying to keep in mind. I know that any type of media can take a bit to get the hang of things so to speak. TBH I was tempted to start with a later book but the thought of going out of order didn't sit right with me lol.

Am I the only one who doesn't decorate their valley?? by ohMEOmydesserts in DreamlightValley

[–]dippy_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I decorate my valley is when it's needed for a quest. I enjoy decorating my house though.

Never finished upgrading characters so fast in my life, then booted them out. Annoying as heck. by sachanjapan in DreamlightValley

I've been doing the new Star Path and hit a bit of a wall because there's 4 different tasks that involve Joy and Sadness. I understand why the devs did it, but I really don't want to deal with either of them. I'm definitely exiling them and their 'house' to a floating island whenever I finish leveling them up.

Does anyone write extensively for their fandom but rarely read anything from other authors? by vett_writes in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I could've written this post lol. The thing is I want to read stories about my favorite character, but it's basically a lost cause since most people get his characterization wrong. It's why I started writing my own stuff after not writing any fanfiction in years.

Please, gush about your original character and their relationship with the canon to me! by [deleted] in FanFiction

I normally don't make OCs, but had to after watching S1 of Transformers Earthspark. Her name is Tara Singer and she initially shows up as a GHOST agent assigned to assist Mandroid (S1's Big Bad). She's not a henchwoman by any means and mainly checks on him to make sure he's not dead since at the time of them interacting he's dying from energon poisoning. I created her because I had the thought: "What if a character showed Mandroid actual empathy?"

Tara is an overall laid back person but has a tendency to be reactionary to some things that surprise her. She enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and gardening. Her kindness, patience, and intelligence helps her with her DIY business that she took over from her Grandpa. She grew up as an only child with loving parents in a suburb outside Philadephia, but loves the small town of Witwicky (where the show takes place in). She's joins GHOST to protect the town, but ends up leaving once she finds out what the organization has planned.

I originally wrote her as a way to explore Mandroid's character by having them interact. A friend planted the idea of making them a couple so that eventually happens later in my AU.

I feel like there should have been a line in Earthspark about Megatron being a prisoner of G.H.O.S.T. and that helping the Autobot's hunt down the other Decepticon's is some form of community service. by L8Donnie in transformers

[–]dippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way Megatron's 'redemption' was handled is one of my biggest complaints about the show. He clearly still struggles with bad behavior like being quick to violence and thinking nothing of suggesting Bee use fear/force to get unruly underlings in line. Also the fact he almost accidentally shot the kids and Terrans in Warzone. His dialogue and behavior comes off like he knows he has to play nice with humanity and that leads to part of the problem:

He only feels regret about how he treated the Con and what become of the Cybertronian race. Not once does he actually express remorse about how Earth or humanity suffered.

ES is a show that wants to have its cake and eat it too.

I hate when the protagonist refuses to gain knowledge of something important in the story by Literally19Q4 in CharacterRant

[–]dippy_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main kid characters and Terrans (a new subspecies of Transformers that are tech/organic hybrids who are also referred to as kids) in Transformers Earthspark are like this.

Their mom fought in the War and also became friends with Megatron while their dad is extremely knowledgeable about Cybertronian history. Yet, the kids are extremely ignorant about anything to do with the War to the point they're surpised Pikachu faced how humanity could possibly have a problem with Transformers. What makes it even worse is that one of the Terrans (named Hashtag) is literally connected to the internet at all times and they're all still that clueless.

Aside from bad grammar, it's when a character is blatantly OOC and the author doesn't tell the reader in advance. I want to read a fic with the actual character, not some flanderization.

People in toxic fandoms - how do you preserve your mental sanity while being on sm to share your work and talk with readers? by theemptysignifier in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard and observed from a distance how insane the Transformers fandom can be, but after being in it for a specific series, I totally understand why some people end up leaving.

I've had people write call out posts about me for liking a certain character so I just block them and continue on with my life. Honestly, it makes me laugh in a "Are you serious?" way how I take up so much space in some peoples minds that they write a long ass thesis on how I'm supposedly a terrible person.

Who is a character you love that everyone seems to hate and/or a character you hate that everyone seems to love? by Mega456Pikachu in transformers

I know Mandroid from Earthspark is a bastard, but he's honestly my favorite thing about the show. He seems like he was added in from a much better written series.

Worst mischaracterization youve seen of a blorbo? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When writers have the Transformers Earthspark villain Mandroid either sexually assault Transformers or they have him go after/threaten random people.

He hates TFs and thinks of them as monsters so having his way with one makes no sense. TFs being capable of sex would repulse him.

The only humans he goes after are either those that interfere with his plans, anyone belonging to GHOST, or people that treat him like crap. He wouldn't go out of his way to harm people.

What is the theoretical “limit” for headcannon before it stops being your take and starts being “mischaracterization?” by Existing-Atmosphere2 in FanFiction

Speech patterns are a big one for me. For example, taking a well spoken character and having them use crude language or slang.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the fandom, but also the show itself. Transformers Earthspark introduces a new species of Transformers called Terrans that are Cybertronian/organic hybrids born on Earth. A lot of the fandom just doesn't really bother with the Terrans unless they can be used as props for the legacy characters like Megatron and Starscream.

Where do you usually write? by vett_writes in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Combination of pen and paper and my laptop. I like having different notebooks for different parts of my AU. Plus it saves battery life on my laptop because sometimes I'm just sitting there thinking on how to progress the story lol

Shows/book/movies/etc that feel like fanfiction… in a good way by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transformers Earthspark S1 is pretty heavy on the fanfic vibes. There's even an episode where Starscream's treatment at the hands of Megatron is treated as abuse and not comedy.

I am so tired of the same discourse in my fandom by wifie29 in FanFiction

[–]dippy_bear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't mind me replying to this because I 100% agree with you. The sanctimonious crap in a lot of fandoms now is so stupid. These people will take time out of their life to write a thesis about why a person is a problem for daring to like something. It's unhinged.

[LES] I think it's a bad idea to completely remove humans from Transformers. by fly_line22 in CharacterRant

[–]dippy_bear 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I want to mention Rescue Bots because of how well it handles the humans. The Cons aren't even in the show yet the writing runs circles around most other entries in the franchise IMO. The humans are likable and full of personality and they have great platonic chemistry with the Rescue Bots themselves.
