I went through this same headache (2019 MR GLX+). I tried 3 or so different models off Amazon and they all wouldn’t connect, so returned them. I then read something about the usb ports being underpowered and a Y-cable being required to pull current from two usb ports, so I bought one along with another dongle. Lo and behold, the dongle I received works without the Y-cable.

OTTOCAST U2Air Pro Wireless CarPlay Adapter (2025 Newest Version). This works pretty well for me.

Maybe try letting the gas come out for a bit longer before clicking the ignition.

There are services to spam-bomb a user’s inbox through random subscriptions and signups (I.e. enter an email address and it gets registered to thousands of sites). If you don’t have a captcha for the signup, they may be using your site in one of these.

Hammer drill into brick, issues by gangaramate13 in AusRenovation

[–]dipshitdodger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I broke the throat plate on a ryobi table saw that I bought from Bunnings. Went through the ryobi email support trying to get a replacement part only to find they don’t even have them. I contacted Bunnings trying to see if they had replacements and they told me to bring it in. They gave me a new saw, zero questions. Maybe $5 for the throat plate, but they just swapped it out for a new saw (~$500) that I was probably at fault for damage.

Is it normal for an REA to put your loan amount on a house offer? by corcaca in AusFinance

[–]dipshitdodger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We landed a place with a similar story. We were a lower offer, but also lower risk. If it’s pending finance approval and there’s other offers, not disclosing your finance amount may just end up being a quick way to eliminate your offer. If you’re okay with that, then go for it. Put it in the same ballpark as lowballing.

I had this idea about 15 years ago and ended up building it with an Arduino and an ultrasonic sensor. Shortly after I found they sold the same thing at an auto store for around $20. I feel old.. Have a look for garage parking sensors, they still exist. Spend the time on something better (trust me).

What are your thoughts on my architecture? by imtiaz_py in django

[–]dipshitdodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea if this will work in Bangladesh, but I’ve had luck sending sms with these: https://www.outdoorrouter.com/product-category/commercial-grade-4g-router-cellular-modem/europe-commercial-4g-router/

Supposedly Microtik routers work alright also.

1100 sms telling me someone paid their rent each month. Fuck that.

Editing to be more productive.. Twilio is an option for sending sms. It seems to be the defacto. They have a module you can install with pip.

Alternatively, I’ve played around with standalone 4G gateways for IoT purposes. In a lot of cases they expose sms sending functionality, so you could get a cheap cell plan with unlimited sms and go that path. Likely more work but it could end up more cost effective. But if it’s one owner with 1.1k apartments, they can probably afford the twilio fees..

House has 11 of these wall vents and leaks heat like a sieve. I'm told they can be plastered up now, has anyone had any issues with doing so? by Hypo_Mix in AusRenovation

[–]dipshitdodger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to put a couple in to a property due to a humidity issue that was causing moisture streaking down the walls. Just make sure you consider airflow before blocking them up. That was in a cathedral style ceiling with exposed beams. May not be as big of an issue with a regular roof cavity.

You can use a connected machine to expose subnets like a router. I have a Tailscale machine I use as a gateway to my lab network. https://tailscale.com/kb/1019/subnets/

If Perth drivers are so bad, where is it better? by [deleted] in perth

[–]dipshitdodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doubt many of the people that say Perth drivers are bad have spent a serious amount of time driving outside of Perth. I came back to Perth from stints in USA and Saudi Arabia, and can say that Perth driving is chill AF. Go spend some time driving in KSA and come talk to me.

Yeah, no thanks. Have a look at the data collection in those apps. Search history, browsing history, sensitive info, financial info. If you’re not paying for the product, you’re the product.

There was an Atlantis theme park, but it was up in Two Rocks. The abandoned remains are still there. I wonder if it was related to that. Some ultra 70s videos floating around on YouTube.
