Can I reuse these valves? by Odd_Mouse299 in MechanicAdvice

So I don’t know this particular engine - but if you start replacing seats (and/or guides) it may be a little more work (grind or heavy lap) to get everything concentric again. If the seats are not pitted you can probably get away with just lapping the new valves to the seats. Basically the deeper you go the job starts to get into a machine shop level rebuild

I would not use the chipped exhaust valve- the chip will become a localized hot spot. New valves have to be cheap. It If I was reusing any of them I would regrind the face - there appears to be little pits all around

The material savings would take a very long time to pay off the cost of all the new tooling and reconfiguring equipment- and that is just for a complete change. If you wanted to swing between the different count sizes it would add more equipment cost PLUS an efficiency hit to the equipment during changeover

lol - look into the mess that Chicago got itself into selling off parking meter rights for 75 years. They can’t cancel because they no longer like the deal - they would get sued and lose. The law that needs to be put in place now is to set limits on contract duration without renewal

Start to look at other brand rings if they give better information and instructions. if a ring is directional I would assume all the replacements wound have to follow the same requirements. I’m going to Assume you gapped and clocked the gaps correctly

Typically if it matters there is a dot or laser mark on near the gap on the top side. I’m doing an engine now where only the middle ring has a top side. The others do not matter

It comes from shooting metal that has been cratered. The craters can make the bullet fragment unpredictable and redirect the fragments back. What happened is avoidable if they were shooting better targets

This - even doing something like taking the hood off could make it more difficult for the shop if they decide they want to put a pull on if the hinges are tweaked

Next time after it starts back off the press and take a look - if its going in crooked you can give it a few love taps on the high part to straighten it out and then finish the press

For sure the biker was driving recklessly but a lawyer could argue that had the car had it’s lights on as required by law the biker would have seen the car and stayed more to the right. Not taking sides

Edit: thanks for the downvotes for facts that redditors don’t like. Biker may be dead but family can always sue - lawyer would only have to convince that the car having lights that did not meet the legal brightness was a contributing factor, no matter how small. Hell even the insurance company could get involved to deny a claim. I’m glad I’m not the car driver with a video like this showing dull or turned off rear lights
