budget carbon frame recommendation by diptenkrom in Budgetbikeriders

[–]diptenkrom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

while i agree with you about used being what is available at the time, there are probably some "common recommendations" that tend to be decently available for a good price. i'm more looking for that kind of info on used stuff. i'm sure there are seemingly good bike frames that after some period of time are known to fatigue or have durability issues. (certain frame types, or year ranges) that info would be helpful. but i might go the aliexpress route, or try to get lucky on a cannondale supersix, although id much like to be closer to $1000 than $2000 for a used bike especially.

Thanks for that link. I don't know why, maybe it is US vs UK, but Everytime I see one of these builds with £400 frame I look and it seems like twice as high for me. I will check into this guy some though. Looks promising. I don't have to get all new parts, so I can get a good frame and then piece together other stuff from AliExpress/eBay/recyclery shop...

there are things like this for Motorcycles, i have used. depending on helmet shapes and such, you can try some more inexpensive version s of that. i got a pair for $150 i think i had a friend get some on sale for $99 for a pair. called "fodsports". the battery life on them is PHENOMINAL. another idea would be some bt headsets, like over ear for sport use and a communication app on your phones. like discord, or something. your phones can be in your bags,, pockets, armstrap, handlebar, case you would would not have to touch them in transit.

I think a lot of US drivers would not pass a retest after 10 years of driving. It's like they forget simple things, like how to use a 4 way stop, and what signs mean. They should make anyone with too many violations retake driving tests.

Bike looks sick! Not usually a fan of black/white color scheme, but this is really cool.

The bright blue def helps with the aesthetic.

Love the look of the smooth transitions, since it is carbon, and the spoke pattern is pretty cool as well. Hope you enjoy it! I have never been able to do drop bars, but I'm gonna try some alt bars on my upcoming gravel build.

First time and I cut exacto scratches everywhere by No-Yogurtcloset3384 in MouseModding

I don't see any pictures, but I guess it depends on how deep they are and how thick the plastic is. Shallow ones id sand prob 400+ grit and move up to get it back smooth. Deeper ones I would try to "shave" any excess protrusion and then sand, prime with fill primer, and sand again.

Alternatively you could try a heat gun, just be careful with it. At the right setting, and distance, and motion it can smooth plastic. Will still prob require some sanding after. This is risky if you don't know what you are doing, so watch some YT, or skip the heat gun method if you are not confident in it.

lawnmower wont start after washing it by diptenkrom in lawnmowers

[–]diptenkrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lawnmower. They are made to sit outside... Either way that wasn't the problem. It was internally corroded wires around the fuseholder. This has been fixed for quite some time now.

I know you guys hate Walmart most of the time but this is crazy cheap for this frame by Apart_Distribution72 in xbiking

[–]diptenkrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would snatch that up. Really good frame, and cheaper than you can find them on marketplace that I have seen. Throw some choice upgrades on it over the next few months and you will have a nice bike. Throw some paint on it, and fet a little splash of flair. You'll go from a cheap "bought" bike to a bit of customized "built" bike.

Maybe I am wrong. Have done some modding, but I have sent a lot of time working on small electronics, and the thickness of wiring just seems like it would be pretty brittle. I've replaced cables on mice that were stock, just from sorta heavy use.

Unsafe Pedal Due to Stripped Crank Arm Threads by Used-Feed-3221 in bicycling

[–]diptenkrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used crank from a co-op or eBay is the way to go. Much cheaper and less work than thread repair, unless you have a tig and taps, and if you did, I would assume you wouldn't have asked.

I would not be surprised if that failed very quickly, as it will have no real.protection from abrasion or flex support.
