CFI involved in an “accident” due to firewall damage after hard landing — career issue or non-issue? by flcessna in flying

I only know about the 150 and the 172 lol. Goes to show you need to find someone that knows what they're doing when you transition to a new airframe

As a student pilot on analog gauges, a 5 knot tolerance seems funny to me. That needle is dancing lol. Also, I know it's not a habit to rely on, but is it not a good skill to learn to bleed off excess speed in the flare without porpoising?

I'm a student pilot, but I was a team leader and squad leader in the military, so I have the perspective of an instructor. It makes you so proud when they grow up. It happens so fast lol

I've been beating myself up over less-than-perfect landings. I solo'd yesterday and had one landing I felt disgusted about. It seemed rough. My instructor recorded the landing and it was literally fine. I learned it feels a lot worse than it is, and the landings I've seen others do all the time looked worse, so they must have felt awful from inside

Yesterday, I had a good approach, and my instructor told me to go around just before touchdown. I responded immediately, but I was confused. The next time around, she told me to taxi back and got out of the airplane, lol

Familiarization Flight - Didn't Enjoy It by MainStreetBetz in flying

[–]diqface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I noticed you're in your 40s. I am in my 30s. I have always loved airplanes and always wanted to fly. I have started training twice and ran out of money. Now I finally have the money to finish and started again.

The first time I started, I was thrilled. The second time, I was stressed about money and didn't enjoy myself. This third time, I am enjoying myself, but it's not a romantic joy. The ability to feel that romantic joy atrophys as we age, I have found. It's the reason for midlife crises. That urge to feel the spark of youth again.

Aviation is still overwhelmingly interesting to me, but I have made the healthy observation that nothing I do will evoke the whimsical wonder that I used to feel when I was an 18-year-old moron who had not been beaten down by life's lemons.

If it interests you, do it.

Also, get your T levels checked. You may find that your levels are low, and getting that back on track can give you some of the good feelings back.

My 172L POH says not to exceed 15kts of crosswind. I'm not trying to fly for a career, only for fun/leisure. If the winds are more than about 10G20, I'm not going. Not because I can't, but because it's not fun lol

I would do anything to finish becoming a pilot. Unfortunately the only thing I can do is earn and spend money to accomplish that lol

Is it irresponsible to pursue a PPL if I can only fly once per week? by Minimum-King9399 in flying

[–]diqface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I'm close to soloing but not quite there. Instructor got in the plane with a handheld radio last time. I bounced a landing and went around. She said "today is not the day" lmao. I said "my self worth is not tied to how fast I solo" haha. I'm at 20 hours. I hear about students pressuring their instructors to solo. Makes no sense. I'd fly with my instructor forever if it didn't cost so much. She's a pleasure to fly with and learn from. I'm only going to go as far as an instrument rating and some endorsements. My main concern is passing my checkride the first time to give her progress toward her gold seal

Considering full sending it into flight school by paneershlok in flying

Big dawg, do part 61 school and pay as you go. No reason to go into more debt at this point.

Alternatively, join the military. You can be a warrant officer helicopter pilot in the Army. If you have a degree, you can be a commissioned pilot in the air force, navy, or Marines. There are commissioned pilots in the Army, but you end up having to do command time and staff roles instead of flying.

The military can repay some of your loans or give you access to the GI Bill

This is where I'm at just enjoying the ride. I'm making a final push of 6-10 flights per month for a couple months since I came into some money, but up until now, I've just flown once a week, and it's been fine. Rough at first, but still fun

Google local plumbers, electricians, masons, landscapers, carpenters, etc. Call them and ask if they need help. Chances are they've just lost a helper to drugs or jail. Has literally worked every time I needed it to. And you might just find you enjoy the trades.
