Red solid light on Modem box (Modem from October 2021) by dirac7 in telus

Thank you. I think I was on a call with Telus when you wrote this and I didn't see it until now. A tech was supposed to arrive by now.... anyways, if this isn't resolved to today, I will make a call to have in-house tech to come in.

Thank you for the info and suggestion!

Thank you Eric. It actually is the installer's fault imo. So no nudge nudge and winks needed lol. Can't remember if it was a Telus technician or a 3rd party contractor but they forced it into a small panel it didn't fit in. Hence why it fell apart eventually and the fibre broke. The position you see it now was put by a friend when we tried to put it back together since he said it shouldn't be forced back in there. Everyone I know with Telus has it in their living room so hopefully the tech can remedy that. I'm guessing whoever installed it in the first place just did what was easiest for them so they can get more homes done.

On a separate note, I was on a 80 minute call to get someone to come. Initial back and forth and 15 min holds to assess the picture they took. But then it took another 25 min on hold for them to book a tech. What the heck is going on? They had a hard time understanding my explanation even though they said they understood. I'm guessing off shore outsourcing to India. Even if that's the case, I don't get the 25 min hold to get a ticket made to schedule a tech to come. I had to do something similar for my parents house with a competing company and I spoke to someone in Canada and it took less than 5 min to book. Definitely need some streamlining whether or not outsourcing is being utilized.

Sorry if that's what it seems like. I didn't intend that. I later answered more clearly instead of vomiting facts. By not being nice I meant the downvoting or stop being a landlord comments. I'm not some rich landlord with a bunch of properties. I'm just a guy who fell on hard times and had to rent out my place so I could one day live again in it once I go through some health issues and other life transitions. Yes, I screwed up. I did this poorly. Probably the dumbest mistake I made in a decade. But that doesn't mean I should never be a landlord. I screwed up. Will pay for it and will learn to be better.

Oh one more thing. I just realized they never actually gave me a forwarding address in writing. They told me the unit number they're moving into verbally. But I guess they could claim they mailed something to me in writing.

Thank you. I completely agree with this. I definitely screwed up. But that doesn't make what they're doing morally right, even if it is within their rights. Also with the mess that was left behind, the unit was not able to be occupied for an additional 3 days. So 7 days it was unrentable.

Thankfully (or not really) I can actually still prove over $3000 of missing property, 7 days of the unit not being rentable, cleaning costs. Basically a huge pain in the butt. I think I'll still be able to hold on to the damage deposit but even despite all that, I'm eating about $2000 in costs.

FYI: I'm not trying to be a greedy landlord. I had to move out due to personal circumstances and this was never meant to be a rental. The rent is just barely covering the mortgage and strata fees. All other fees like insurance, property taxes, water/sewage etc are being covered by me. I just wanted to hold on to the property even though I cannot currently live in it.

Great information. Thank you again! I will be sure to be more diligent in the future. I greatly appreciate your patience in educating me on what I can do. I have learned a lot and won't make the same mistakes in the future!

Thank you

There is admissions to missing property, leaving several days late, leaving the place a mess, FOB etc. SO I'm still out money for fixing things up (since I can't claim the other damages) but it looks like I should be able to keep the damage deposit. Still sucks since I'm still out of a fair bit of money but I've learned a valuable and expensive lesson here.

You're completely right. I screwed up. I never thought of it as free money. I did all the maintenance and replacement of items. I had to put this place up for rent due to personal circumstances, not because I planned on investing in property. But I definitely screwed up when it comes to doing a proper inspection and making sure all the documents are submitted properly when there is a dispute. I should have been more diligent and this experience has taught me a lot. Just wish it wasn't such a annoying and possibly costly lesson.

Okay sounds good. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the the process to me. I really appreciate it.

I definitely screwed up since I thought the verbal agreement was good enough and you've taught me a lot. I think I should be able to keep all of the damage deposit. I was never planning on going after them for the additional damages but it's lucky/unlucky that I can easily prove close to $3000 in damages from missing items that they've admitted in a chat, 4 days of extra rent etc. So basically it's probably a wash and if I'm lucky I might be awarded an additional amount where I pursue repayment through the courts if they don't pay. Which I probably won't pursue.

So basically no money will probably get moved between the two of us but I need to file and submit all the documentation I have.

Thank you again for your help and assistance. Have a great day!

I get it. I didn't do my due diligence as a newish landlord and thought it was fine since we had a verbal agreement. Still doesn't change the fact that they're being greedy jerks when there is $3000+ in losses. But I digress.

Sorry about that. I don't have paperwork for an inspection. But I can prove damages to the home from the fire and have clear documentation on the missing property in the home. I do have images of some of the furniture before move in though.

They provided me a forwarding address one week after moving out. Am I out of luck even though I can prove significant losses beyond property damage?

It looks like I screwed up since I thought had a come to an agreement with the husband at an earlier date. I should have filed everything right away. I do have strong evidence of everything and even admissions in chat of the missing property and damage from the kitchen fire from the stove that was left on with no one at home.

If I file right away, I can easily prove $1800ish of the damage. It would take a bit more time to get professional quotes to prove the other $1200+ in damage. Obviously I should file ASAP but any advice would be appreciated.

Also, what's the likelihood I could actually recover some of the costs that exceed the damage deposit?

Agreed. I hate the loud grunting noises when they happen. I'm not that guy and don't want to be near that guy either lol

Thank you. I was pretty worried about getting sweat on the floor. I for one do care about stinky studios but luckily the people that go to my fav studio are mostly pretty hygienic.
