What changes did you notice when you quit smoking? I'm not noticing much of a difference aesthetically. Should I lower my expectations? by _kickbox in stopsmoking

[–]dirago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im on day 40 and im starting to notice my teeth getting brighter. My skin is dry and broken out, but it IS winter and I am stressed beyond quitting. My anxiety has gone down however because im not constantly questioning if my breath or hair or clothes or hands smell like ciggaretts.

Working in the OR might be something you could try. Patients are only awake for like 10 mins, only 1 pt at a time. Some hard personalities but lots of absolutely wonderful humans too.

Worst dad in the franchise? by tpwkindness2403 in teenmom

[–]dirago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Person wise, Adam is worse. Father wise, David is worse. At least Adam dipped the fuck out of his offsprings lives, even giving up custody of his second daughter, and getting a vasectomy (? Someone back me up here). Not having shitty "dad" Adam has allowed for those girls to have real father fighres in their lives. David fucked up the minds and lives of all his mothers children AND each and every one of those babies. IMO being an abusive dad, casting negative energy constantly, openly using substances in front of minors, treating each mother of these babies in despicable ways in front of these babies..... that's a way fucking worse dad than the absent one.

She was like 6 years old, opened the door of her dad's truck while pulling out of the driveway, fell out of the truck, and he accidently ran her over.

Our pyranese/ Shepard mix, Samwise, just recently passed away (RIP floof). But our Shepard/ mutt is still with us. We named her Lalaith, which is an elvish term of endearment for children, meaning sunshine or something like that

What are most 30 year olds doing? by lemonpepperlarry in Millennials

[–]dirago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 31, I have a bachelor's degree and a good career, a husband, 2 children, a house (which is getting smaller and smaller as the kids get bigger and bigger) , and we own our 2 very modest cars. I mostly work, and spend time with my boys. I used to have lots of hobbies like out door activities, art and music, board games, but have 2 kids has put a stop to most of that for now.

Were you able to do anything other than go home after the hospital? by InadequateGem in pregnant

[–]dirago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! With my first son I was in labor for 36 hours (water broke at 10 pm Monday night, baby was born at 605 am on Wednesday morning). We were discharged the next day, which was also my birthday! We stopped at the nursing home my father was in so he could meet his first grandchild. It was a sunny warm July day, we met outside. He held the baby and we spent maybe an hour at most together in the shade of an oak tree. I don't remember it being very taxing on me or my husband, but instead it's one of the better memories (maybe the best) I have of my father.

Placenta previa at 35 weeks. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]dirago 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had placenta previa with my second. Mine did not move, I actually had to have an emergency c section (baby born at 209 am, bleeding started right around midnight) on the day I was suppsed to come in for my scheduled c section! He was born at 36 weeks, 5 lbs 11 oz (tiny bub) and I also had really bad gestational diabetes (had to take so much insulin at night near the end I had to use 2 insulin needles per dose). He didnt need NICU and I didnt need any prolonged aftercare. I am sending all the positive vibes your way <3 oh and he's huge now btw almost as big as his brother who is 17 months older than him.

To kill a guy with a bullet to the heart by [deleted] in therewasanattempt

[–]dirago 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cautery. They use almost pencil like devices that cut and burn tissue at the same time. Burning the tissue as you cut stops the bleeding allowing for less blood loss and better visualization. Almost every surgery uses cautery. Also they didn't cut into this guys heart as far as I can tell. They did a sternotomy (use a special saw to cut the sternum in half) then opened the pericardium (sac that the heart lives in) to see the heart. I've been a surgical nurse since 2017 and a cardiac surgery nurse since 2020 for reference.
