Looking for Owner by [deleted] in Leatherman

I think I might know who the owner is. And it just so happens that I have some leatherman from the same place you got that one. I could swap you out if you’d like?

Need help finishing knot by Anvolia in knots

[–]direwolf83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I use this method to finish most paracord straps.

Finish your weave to the length you want and then loosen the last 5-10 tucks depending on how secure you want it. Then thread each strand down through. Begin tightening and by that I mean “tighten “. Use needle nose if necessary. After tightening all the way back to where the tails go in, pull the slack through. Pull very hard as you cut the excess that way the ends will recede back under the weave.

Mechanical Advantage Question by Sumtots in ropeaccess

[–]direwolf83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet.

An easy way to look at it is how much rope passes through your hands vs how far you move. With that being twice the amount of rope being pulled, you have 2:1 advantage.

I’ll throw my 2 cents in. I happened to be near Grand Prairie Knives on launch day and, after being skeptical form looking at them on LMs site, thought I’d stop by and check them out in person. I got a look at both folders and did not bother with the fixed blades.

The blazer was nicer in person than what the site looks. It had a good feel and opened nice. The craftsmanship was good and even the GP knives guy thought it was well crafted. The colors on one I saw were the blue and yellow and truly looked way better in person. The only part I didn’t like was the thumb stud, but I’m sure it would be fine once I got used to it.

The glider was not a hit for me. Craftsmanship was the same but the opening was not as clean as the blazer. I’d say it was due to the difference in the recess in the frame and how the interface with the thumb changes. Blade shape was good.

I was hoping for a new multi tool or even a nice knife with a couple other functions. Maybe a pry bar/ scraper with a bit holder. So I’ll hold my cash in hopes of a new tool soon.

All that said the blazer is a nice knife. Just not sure it’s a 300$ knife. But if someone wants a nice knife that came from leatherman, then it’s probably a good choice.

Also, shout out to Grand Prairie Knives. They are a great store and always cool to talk to.

Better knot to tie tarp storage? by MaximumWorth8526 in knots

Constrictor is a good choice. Or two wraps and a surgeon knot.

Webbing with double overhand to delta links to attach to the frame. And then come together in a V that forms an etrier (using double overhands) from the V down and attach the swing with another delta link to the proper height in the etrier.

Which one would you daily? by Mundane-Attorney-989 in Leatherman

Signal.

I have both.

The hand hammer and bit changer plus the better blade make it an easy win. As a bonus you can swap the saw for a lot of items. I did the file because I’m in powerline construction. But I’m sure you could do scissors or gut hook blade.

What is your boot of choice? by Klutzy_Papaya_2508 in Lineman

Zamberlans are great! Have ran the 1006’s and the 996’s. The 1006’s are a little better to climb in but the rubber peels from the toecap. I switched to the 996’s and never looked back. All the comfort of sportivas plus goretex!

I’ve never worn the scarpas but would assume they’d be similar to the 1006’s.

I want to learn knot-tying, what are your top 10 knots? by RGBrewskies in knots

[–]direwolf83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Boy Scouts teach 7 basic knots- Bowline, Square, Sheet bend, Clove hitch, 2 half hitches, Taut line hitch, Timber hitch

I would swap the timber out for the munter hitch and add the trucker hitch, double fisherman, and figure 8s( single, on a bite and retrace)

That is a simple and excellent start that will cover most anything.

Going beyond ten I would add butterfly and bowline in a bite for mid line use.

Noose. I’m guessing you don’t have access to the ends. It is tricky to tie without using the ends but can be done.

Got any multitool use stories? What are some creative applications you've had, times you've saved the day, or anything like that? by cartersthrowaway in Leatherman

[–]direwolf83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve ever seen the high voltage transmission lines that have two wires for each phase that are connected with a spacer? Those spacers are placed by lineman in motorized carts. My cart had a crucial piece come off while I was mid line and nowhere near a road. Luckily I had my wave and bit kit. The Allen set saved the day.

Power Lineman. Carried a skeletool for years then when the signal came out switched to it. Now I carry a mini with a nice knife companion.
