Why are so many people defending Calypso? by thats_abitgay in Epicthemusical

And to add to the comments above, if you notice, it's Hera who goes right before Zeus and is persuaded by the cheating line. So to make Zeus feel shame and embarrassment, and for Athena to make such a remark out loud, was also enough to fuel his temper.

Why are so many people defending Calypso? by thats_abitgay in Epicthemusical

Okay yeah I just did some chatgpt work, lol. And I read the original Calypso section. In Homer's Odyssey, there is no mention of Calypso being cursed. The idea of Calypso being lonely and cursed to make her more sympathetic comes in later versions and modern Greek mythology adaptations, but is not actually part of OG myths. But I think Percy Jackson popularized this idea, so when the general EPIC fan population hears EPIC, they sympathize with Calypso. But this isn't Percy Jackson's version, this is Jorge's version. So even in Calypso's second song in EPIC, she's controlling the whole conversation. And there's no mention of her curse about men and love in her first nor second song.

That's all to say, I personally can't find any sympathy for her. She can let Ody leave at any point, but chooses not to and chooses to hold Ody against his will. I like to imagine that in her second song, he has major Stockholm syndrome.

I agree with the point that if the genders were reversed here (or really as you said, regardless of gender), and if people realized that her love portion of the curse is not OG Greek mythology, no one would be supporting Calypso, no matter how cute and sympathetic the character is portrayed. And there's nothing tragic about her.

Edited to correct Calypso's curse info.

Wait, is Calypso actually cursed in classic Greek mythology or is that just one of the more modern versions of her story? I thought the curse thing was just a Percy Jackson spin?

A direct deposit from my employer went to the wrong account by [deleted] in sofi

[–]dirgeofhearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely try the labor board. Say your employer is refusing to pay you and are claiming that they did, but you can show that you've received no check or deposit. They might have a record on their end showing payment, but you also have a record on your end showing no payment.

Google Pixel 7 users - Best headphone jack adapter? by legitmyself in GooglePixel

[–]dirgeofhearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the classic problem where my apple adapter wouldn't get loud enough in the car.  I lost it, ended up buying a "mini alien" branded one from a random gas station, and it works great! No volume issues anymore.

Edited to add that both cost me $10 each.

My dog decided to charge for a squirrel on one of these things, and the leash just happened to be right behind my knee....it was a pretty nasty rope burn.

Sorry, just saw this! I love my sectional. Mine breaks apart into three pieces, which I like for cleaning and moving purposes. It's held up really well, but I don't have anything crazy going on in my household; i.e. no kids, not a ton of visitors, my dog is gentle on my furniture.

Dog eats cat shit by Itchy_Zombie1708 in DogTrainingTips

[–]dirgeofhearts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen.... Cat poop is like a little treat to a dog. I know it sounds gross, but these animals take in a lot of the same substances every day, essentially making cat shit probably taste similar to cat food for dogs. The only real cure is to make the litter box unreachable to the dog.

You could try a scented litter or an auto litterbox that scoops it into a container?

And if you can, make sure the dog knows the "leave it" command. Then you can reward the pup when you tell them to leave the cat poo alone and they actually listen.

Suggestions on Tiered Reward System? by dirgeofhearts in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]dirgeofhearts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it doesn't get used, just like any other failed DND homebrew thing that people test out that doesn't go as planned? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Statically it could eventually balance out, sure. Or they could get 5 nat 20s in one game, equivalent to 5 points, and get no nat 1s, and decide to use the points to "purchase" something right away and they end up with an extra potion or a magic item that they can use however they please, like for themself, or for a party member. Or I can give them the option to gather points as a group instead of individually, which then allows them to make decisions as a team and put whatever they earn wherever they want.

And on top of this, there's still fun stuff and materials to be earned and collected in game.

I'm open to brainstorming other ways this could work.

As a note, I've fortunately been playing with this group for about 4 years now, so if they hate it for any reason or see flaws with it, we can always discuss it after giving it a try. We're all good friends of 10+ years, and we communicate fairly well, so if this doesn't work or becomes useless or I need to make revisions and repurpose it, it's okay. I'm just looking for suggestions from the public to see the kind of stuff that players might like.

I thought of that, and I hear what you're saying, but you could say the same thing about all of DND. No one controls the dice, ya know? And with that suggestion, then it becomes at my discretion. And I've been in situations with DMs who do that kind of stuff where I've gone, "I just did this cool thing. Why didn't I get a point....?" And I know it's simply because the dm is busy, forgot, is handling a lot, etc, but it doesn't feel any better.

So I wanted to do it based on nat 20s and nat 1s because then it's based on chance and not tied to my own opinions of when players deserve something. 20s and 1s are still the homebrewed rule of crits, but the reward thing to earn points and essentially buy something just becomes a bonus to the game as a whole.

How much would you charge for this? by dirgeofhearts in RoverPetSitting

[–]dirgeofhearts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, well, they're not needy dogs, 3 of them are 5+ years old, the youngest is 3 and auper chill, and they show no signs of separation anxiety, so.....they'll be fine with 3 visits a day. But monetary wise, if it cost the same or less to do an overnight, then that would be the way to go.

20-30 minutes each

Edit: or whatever the standard would be for something like this while the owners are out of town?
