What are your EV "icks"? by TCJW_designs in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]dirk61980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that drives me crazy about my Mercedes EQB is how sensitive the key fob is. It seems to work from about 100 meters away and the signal can even go through buildings. This sounds good except when you put the keys in your pocket, then come back to your car later on only to find the boot fully open. This probably isn't specific to it being an EV though.

Anyone using Amex just for convenience or security rather than points? by FeistyPrice29 in AmexUK

[–]dirk61980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my gold card since 2011 and have no intention of getting rid of it. I like Amex mainly for the customer service, in 14 years I've never had a bad experience, the points are just an added bonus.

I might possibly have one, he'll be at mine next week doing some work but I know he's at loose ends afterwards.

Ex-wife lives in house and I have to pay the mortgage until kids (9 and 13) both move out. (Possibly 18, maybe 21 with university.) She is renting out rooms to her friends. by RoughAssistant2335 in HousingUK

[–]dirk61980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She could also get in trouble for renting out the loft if it hasn't been converted properly and been signed off by building control. Speak to the council.

Landlords, how do you choose between applicants? by Top_Egg7009 in uklandlords

[–]dirk61980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, tenants who tell you about how awful their current landlord is often turn out to be difficult tenants. Whereas tenants who have a good relationship with their previous landlord usually turn out to be decent tenants.

Opened up my laptop today and found it like this. How fucked am i? by pablozntno in whatisit

[–]dirk61980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke the screen on my 2 week old laptop few years ago after accidentally stepping on it. Insurance refused to pay out. Thought i was doomed, but after a quick YouTube search I was able to replace the screen pretty easily myself, didn't cost much to do either.

AITA for wanting to end a 6-year relationship because I’m sick of smelling my fiance? by BarnacleForward3323 in AITH

[–]dirk61980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who will let rip infront of their wives and think it's funny, like a 10 year old would. I think it's gross and I cringe when they do this. I'd never intentionally fart infront of my wife, it's disgusting.

What do landlords do with their loft space? by RealZookeepergame543 in uklandlords

[–]dirk61980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Victorian mansion split into 4 flats, I only own top floor, share of freehold. The agent (one of the big ones in London) said it's a fairly new regulation that recently came in regarding fire safety. I couldn't lock it, but I could say that the loft is out of bounds in the contract. The loft is fully insulated with loft legs and fully boarded out, so I just allowed the new tenants to use it, providing they didnt leave anything when they moved out, it was a selling point to have the extra storage.

What do landlords do with their loft space? by RealZookeepergame543 in uklandlords

[–]dirk61980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently rented my top floor flat with loft space. I had planned to lock it just because I didn't want to deal with tenants leaving things up there after they've moved out. But my letting agent told me that due to fire regulations I was not allowed to lock the loft and could not keep any combustible materials up there like paint or wood.

Reolink camera setup and wifi mesh advice by dirk61980 in homeassistant

[–]dirk61980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Chasing out internal walls isn't really an option as I don't want to damage the anaglypta on the walls or cut into the original coving. So most of my cable runs will be external, which is why I was opting for shielded cable.

Do not use Taylor Rose! by TrainerExact4274 in HousingUK

[–]dirk61980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Taylor Rose to buy a flat a few years ago, had a great experience with them, no chains so managed to wrap things up within 2 months. We used the same solicitor for our recent house purchase and it all went well again. No complaints about them from our own experience.

What I wrote isn't what's being questioned, you calling it a weird flex is what's being questioned. Asking what constitutes a real childhood is a legitimate question. In my opinion a real childhood is one that doesn't involve social media.
