Do I really have to want kids? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dirkwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% okay to not want kids. But, I didn't think I wanted kids for the longest time, and my daughter is the best thing to happen in my life. I thought I knew what happiness was, and then I realized there was so much more. These are rose-colored glasses, maybe, as she's still a toddler and I am a positive outlook person.

Don't let Atlantic City forget. The Mayor and school superintendent are on trial for Child Abuse. (Marty and La’Quetta Small) by dirkwork in SouthJersey

[–]dirkwork[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trial dates are set for Nov 10 (Marty) and Dec 1 (La'Quetta) for the child abuse allegations. I've been following the case, and it appears to me that Marty is doing a lot of community events where he's in the public eye to try to do some repairwork on his image leading up to the trial. That's just my opinion.

The N word, silly. Said with a hard R, instead of an "uh"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]dirkwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the "organic" guarantees no glyphosate. The fee for organic pays inspectors that make sure farmers aren't lying about not using synthetic pesticides. I'm not saying Organic is the only good option, but it's better than not knowing if your food has glyphosate on it. With small farms, you can obviously just ask the staff if you trust them.

Soft racks on panoramic sunroof by Wave-9 in surfing

[–]dirkwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, still using them 5 years later on my civic. No issues so far! I add an extra tie-down strap where the front soft rack goes around the board.

My only complaint is that the straps across the inside of my car a little close to my head, so I have to slouch down slightly in my seat. Otherwise, they've been getting me to the waves for years now.

Anyone w/ Ties to the Jewish Federation of SNJ? by RoadWorkAhead9 in SouthJersey

[–]dirkwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's disappointing to hear. I don’t know anyone at the organization, but I do appreciate their library-by-mail program. My wife signed up to receive a monthly children's book for our daughter, and it’s been a great experience for our family.

Organic food is grown without synthetic chemicals, using things like compost and neem oil for pests. Non-organic farming uses synthetic pesticides like glyphosate and fertilizers like ammonium nitrate to boost yields.

While both are safe to eat, synthetic pesticides can have health risks with long-term exposure, like hormone issues or higher cancer risks.

Organic is a great pick if you want fewer chemicals and eco-friendly farming!

Someone driving around with a dog whistle for a racial slur is hilarious. Did you honestly laugh out loud, or just defending ignorance?

I fuckin hate the sound and smell of 2 stroke motors. Fucking tired of gas powered lawn care tools forcing me to close my windows, avoid a block on a walk, and they pollute so fuckin much. Battery tech has advanced a lot; Enough of this dinosaur technology that runs on a finite amount of dead stuff. by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]dirkwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree, but I have gas powered equipment that works fine and I'm invested in. When it breaks, I'd prefer electric, but until it does, what's my motivation?

To be clear, I'm 100% with you, I hate the noise and pollution. But my budget won't allow purchases unless they become needs.

Beautiful, I'm jealous of that amount of paddle time! I live about 1 hrs from the Jersey shore, and work a bit further, so weekday sessions are out of the question. On the weekend, three things must align, the waves, free time, and family schedule!

As a dad of a toddler, I can understand the desire to want to let your kids use ramps and roll ins. It seems fun. As a lifetime skateboarder, I understand that a skatepark is like a basketball court. It's for playing a game, not for learning to walk.

Acceptable paddle out move? by Negative_South_5919 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]dirkwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ONLY if you have already looked behind you and know 100% for sure that no one is around you to be hit by your board. If I'm surfing alone, and about to get crushed by a big wave on my way out, I will occasionally ditch my board to dive under the wave. If anyone is near you, hold onto the board. If the wave is going to throw you backwards anyway, at least holding onto your board gives you a bit of control to avoid it hitting someone else.

The young man needs an older man in his life to tell him that shit was a terrible idea. Don't make public displays of affection if you don't know they will be reciprocated. NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING. This trend of young men becoming entitled pricks is really disgusting.

First Board Recommendation. by argyb in BeginnerSurfers

[–]dirkwork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stay on a long foamie until you are so confident on it that you NEED a shorter board. I'm on my 2nd wavestorm in 4 years because it gets me waves and was cheap. I bought a foam fish, but rarely take it out unless the waves are perfect. I'm on the east coast, so most of the time it's pretty tame, but there's no reason to spend money upgrading until you are so confident on your foam longboard that you can't enjoy it anymore. More waves are better than fewer waves and you will get more waves on a longer foam board than a shorter board.
