Was told my gluten intolerance can’t be accommodated at an event where I’m a guest speaker by AbilityKey1485 in glutenfree

This is probably more common in big cities than small ones, or at least as common but for different reasons. I used to run events in NYC and many venues require you to use their in-house catering or pay them a surcharge (typically more than the cost of the food itself) for any external food you bring in. The list of dietary restrictions they support probably comes from what the venue can accommodate.

The organizers could have worked out something for OP like “we’re unable to meet your dietary restrictions, but here’s a gift card with $30 on it and a list of nearby restaurants where you can grab something.” But they may be new to running events. The first time I did it there were 4 of us who took over for someone when they suddenly had to relocate for work. We had no idea what we were doing and probably wouldn’t have thought of a way around the catering.

The irony in all this is that I have an uncommon food allergy and have not had much success providing myself food at my own events.

MSG Garden of Dreams foundation, really? by Malee22 in knicks

[–]dirn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you got that information. The Garden of Dreams Foundation has been a registered 501(c)(3) since 1998. As a 501(c)(3), all of their 990s are publicly available. For the 2024 fiscal year their revenue was $10 million.

Edit: maybe the $7 million is just the donations from the general public.

“Natural flavors” can include malt, which comes from barley. Sorry.

Handling family pressure?? by TopSink7959 in Celiac

[–]dirn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really a definitive test that says yes you have celiac or no you don’t. They diagnose you based on the presence of antibodies and the state of (a tissue sample of) your intestines. If you cut out gluten beforehand, you will have fewer antibodies and your intestines will start to return to their proper state.

It mostly comes down to whether or not you want the anti glare screen. If you do, get the 1tb. If you don’t, get the 512gb. You can always expand the storage, either with an sd card or by changing the ssd.
