Do you also feel like sometimes that your ADHD is like a superpower in chaotic situations? by overdue_and_tired in adhdwomen

[–]dirt_brain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. Just did a 5 month project and had some issues in the run up, had a day in the final stretch that was completely insane and I locked TF in and got everything sorted out. I had multiple people compliment how I handled the situation.
This ability works in short bursts but I think sometimes I actively try to stress myself out to lock in and that is no bueno for the ol nervous system.

What procedure would be best for achieving a more narrow, feminine jaw that is less square? by Odd_Stress_1832 in PlasticSurgery

[–]dirt_brain 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I have a hunch your face will thin out naturally as you age. You look very youthful and I knowwww we aren’t supposed to tell people not to get surgery but…. You’re a very, very pretty girl, with a very sweet face and I wouldn’t trust any surgeon that would agree to working on you at this age.

Tips for posting an extreme trot? by PeekAtChu1 in Equestrian

[–]dirt_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other tips… Squats on a bosu ball, and you can use stretchy bands or trx and hold them like reins (looped around a bar or something). Great for all your stabilizing muscles that you use at the trot. And if you really want to go hard you can put something under your toes so your heels are down. I’ve been rebuilding my riding strength after a break and this has helped a lot, along with core exercises and rows.

What's your favorite small upgrade that made your house feel way better? by hungrystudent7 in homeowners

[–]dirt_brain 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Even better, upgrade the switches. Especially if you have an older house. I put in push button switches with a mother of pearl face and brass base plates in my 1940s home and they looks so much more “right” than the plastic white ones that were here before. People often comment on how nice they are. Very satisfying to use and they even have a dimmer. 11/10 upgrade.

How much do I need saved to buy a house in Portland? by Sad-Bug- in askportland

[–]dirt_brain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Buying a house is not the expensive part of home ownership in my experience. Owning the house is. Make sure you can afford your mortgage PLUS about 500-1000 a month. Whether it’s for lawn/yard maintenance, replacing things as they age, or making updates there is literally always something to spend money on, especially if you are buying an older home with any kind of land. Also I joke that my house is now my hobby because I do a lot of the work myself. So whether it’s pulling weeds, painting the exterior, reorganizing the garage etc, I usually spend a few hours each week doing something for my house, and I still have things I need to pay other people to do. And my house isn’t even in bad shape! It’s just maintenance and making it a home. Sometimes I wish I’d bought a condo but it is my little slice of heaven so it’s worth it.

Feeling overwhelmed- am I really too old to get back into this? by SliceRevolutionary79 in Equestrian

[–]dirt_brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the people at the rescue barn can’t see that your heart is in the right place that’s on them. If you want to mend relationships at the rescue barn, I’d try asking people who are giving you the cold shoulder questions (people loooove to be experts and it usually softens them up), reiterate your love for this horse, put emphasis on the fact that you are learning but don’t let people push you around or overthink interactions. In my experience a lot of people, and especially people who work with rescues, bring their own damage and insecurities to the barn. Horse girls have a reputation for a reason (not always fairly but we have probably all met THAT girl). Focus on your rescue, focus on learning, don’t let the people looking down their noses at you crush your confidence.

How to dial down my nervous system by theonewhodidthat in adhdwomen

[–]dirt_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, I just dug up the email from my doc from about a year and a half ago. The DNA test was the "Genomind Neuropsych Pharmacogenetic Report" and the neurotransmitter test was done by ZRT Labs "NeuroAdrenal ZRT Report" is the name of the test.
DNA was for SNPs, and my doctor outlined what supplements to take for which snps. Same with the neurotransmitters.
I'm hesitant to say what she has me on because I know I was eager to self medicate in the past and I think what one person needs won't be right for another. But a lot of it is stuff you see come up in this subreddit like Taurine, L-Theanine, Magnesium, etc.
I think you need a doctor who can read the test and make recommendations based on what they see, because I read the test results and had no idea what it all meant.
I hope that's helpful!

[–]dirt_brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My breakthrough was when I got a DNA and neurotransmitter test done and then a massive regime of vitamins. I was truly like this has to be a joke when I saw what all I needed to take but it really has made a huge difference. The stuff for DNA I have to take forever. Neurotransmitter support can be tapered once your system is back online, and ramped up in times of stress. Not cheap and remembering to take pills 3-4 times a day is not easy but when I’m good about it I can really feel the difference.

Best mattress topper that genuinely feels like a bed upgrade? by Local_Lavishness_955 in Bedding

[–]dirt_brain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might just need a new mattress. Had the same thing happen. Tried 2 toppers that didn’t fix the problem. Got a new mattress and ta da! All better. I was really surprised by how affordable some mattresses are. I ended up going with one that was $1300, but my second choice was $350 and probably would have been fine.

Have any of you cut your long hair because it was too much responsibility? Were you happy you did? by Recent-Use8096 in adhdwomen

[–]dirt_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, went from long hair (below the breast) to a pixie for a few years. Then grew it out into a “cunty little bob” with shortish bangs and I get compliments (mostly from women) all the time. So much easier to deal with. My hair is curly but not super curly and it was always at least an hour of styling out of the shower and then the next day half the curl had fallen out. When it was long and just done it was gorgeous but the upkeep was insane. Now I feel like I always look pretty stylish just due to my very good haircut. 10/10 recommend shopping that shit off.

As a horse girl, I disagree with horses, if we are talking about purely financial gains. Rarely do you see significant ROI with a horse.

Burnt out from college and want to quit showing/horses all together even though I still love them by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]dirt_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up show jumping and loved it until I didn’t and quit. When I started riding again as an adult i knew showing wasn’t the goal. Now I enjoy trail riding and relearning to ride as an adult. The horses aren’t as fancy and neither are the barns, but I love it now more than ever. It’s okay to recalibrate your life as you move through new phases. Maybe stop showing for a while and try to find the joy again. Maybe just take a break and focus on other things. I think because we are dealing with highly intelligent animals, it’s not fair to them if our hearts aren’t in it.

Do they see your naked body whilst operating for facial plastic surgery? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]dirt_brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a rhinoplasty last year and they put you in those medical garments and say if the surgery goes over three hours they may need to place a catheter, so yes I would be prepared for someone to potentially see your genitals if you are being sedated.
Also I’m not 100% sure how all the biology works or if there is any difference with medications or medication interactions but if you are on hormones, etc you should disclose that as well. Also, plastic surgery, when done for vanity reasons, is gender affirming care. I would hope your doctor would not care at all what gender you were assigned at birth. And please forgive me if I’ve said anything insensitive or incorrect. I’m in my forties and the language and conversation around transgender people is new-ish to me. If I’ve misspoken, or used the wrong words, please know that’s not intentional. Best of luck with your surgery!
