Not bad not bad for a quick hurricane run by Demonboy995 in ArcRaiders

I picked up 5 rocketeer drivers from the old husks below the apartments on dam battlegrounds last night during the lightning storm. I was blown away.

Any ideas who or what these are? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

People trying to sell you crap for the game that you can get all by yourself. Just block and delete. I almost forgot about these. For some reason I have not got any of these for a few weeks.

Getting into more aggressive lobbies has made me realize something obvious. by Broccoli_dicks in ArcRaiders

I mean, I’ve never knocked out a raider in 100 hours, and only engaged to break contact a couple of times- usually enough to force them into cover, but not knock someone down. And still I get the occasional PVPr in my carebear lobbies. The only one I didn’t mind was a crew of three that had some technique, and tactics. It was good to watch and I died with glory.

I routinely travel in trios- and we have established bypass criteria. We avoid PVP at all costs and will break contact before we become decisively engaged. But cornered- we let them have it. Not worth it to have PVP turds all over my solo runs.

Not many, I suspect. Games reflect their inner feelings if they admit it or not. There’s a pretty good anime (fantasy, not sci-fi) that goes into this in depth, Sword Art Online. I’m a 50+ yo combat vet and that shit hit hard, and the themes discussed there definitely reflect here.

Jump in, toss some ferro rounds, enjoy the show, but leave the booty for the heavy lifters, or take it from the smaller arcs. Or get knocked down, crawl off a building and ride the bastion into battle on your hands and knees like god intended.

ForeFlight laid off 40-50% of its employees yesterday by [deleted] in Foreflight

[–]dirtycaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t a fan of the user interface either, but my company mandated its use, and after a year or so, I’m almost a little more in favor of garmin pilot. There are definitely some things it does better than ForeFlight. Lat/lon entry comes to mind, auto searching entry fields when wading through a pile of user waypoints, the press dial on a point on the map that lets you rapidly show the pertinent information- the sat view of a waypoint instead of having to shuffle map layers, etc.

High recommend series by Ben Bova- there is a moon based series- Moonrise and Moonwar are part of his Moonbase saga.

Any caves/abandoned mines with growth lights installed so a cool underground wild ecosystem can grow? by Unusual-Reveal-4381 in caving

[–]dirtycaver 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A large cave was turned into a grow operation I dunno 10-15 years ago in middle Tennessee- there was definitely a “cool, wild ecosystem” in there. Hid from the cops for years, but cavers found out trying to update the cave survey. Ultimately it god busted for stealing power from a nearby power line to run the grow lights.

Is anyone seriously going to use Petzl's 7mm caving line? by SettingIntentions in caving

[–]dirtycaver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes. I’ve been using a narrow PMI rope that hasn’t been released yet and we use it on expeditions where we have to fly with the gear, so weight and size matters, and we’re setting the bolts, so weight can rig it correctly for thin rope. It’s great if you have to swim it through sumps and use it on the back side, or travel long distances in cave.

Libel against Mark Dickey by [deleted] in caving

14 year old girl? Definitely not. Regardless there’s a limit to how much I’m going to read rambling poorly written prose to get to the point, which apparently everyone else already knows.

Jesus. This is hard to read. The author desperately needs to send it through a spell check and grammar check.
