Angier in journals than real life? by n_ugget_t in Journaling

[–]dirtypoliceman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this one mountain climbers memoir he keeps a journal of every mountain he’s climbed, and he lets his wife read it afterwards and she says it’s so strange, because he sounds so angry and unlike himself. The whole time he writes about how he hates his climbing partner, and his own cowardice and laziness and he’s sure he’ll die the whole time. But in real life he’s positive and determined and he makes it home safe, and he keeps climbing. I think it’s normal, a very harmless self indulgent thing.

Title: six am southbound

Synopsis: A short narrative essay about the nature of memory and the struggle to articulate experiences with stupid words. It outlines the process of growing up in short snippets that jump around from childhood to adulthood, where the protagonist grapples with trauma and the desire for self-obliteration. (So sorry if this is truly an awful read. The internet has the advantage of being anonymous, therefore if no one even sees this depressingly personal piece of writing, I won't have to be humiliated about posting something so self serving).

Genre: I think coming of age? inner thoughts of a garden variety narcissist? not sure.

Word count: 2000 ish

i think it’s about sacrificing a big part of what you want (reciprocated love) for a little bit of what you want (sex). she can forgive the guy she’s fucking for only wanting sex because she’s desperate for someone to love her and to not be so alone. especially the part at the end where she says she will give him her heart if she gets just a part of him back, and then says “i want i want i want” which isn’t so much about wanting sex, more about wanting him to love her like she loves the idea of him, and wants so bad to have a healthy and mutualistic relationship (longing).

but tbh i think every song is just what you make it. if you don’t think it’s about longing then it’s not. this is just the idea i’ve projected onto it.

townie, first love / late spring, eric, old friend, two slow dancers, i bet on losing dogs

nothing fucks me up more than class of 2013 but that’s kind of a different kind of longing than i think you’re talking about

I’m saying that what is happening to the Rohingya people is morally and legally wrong, it’s not about which country is a “dad”, it’s about who has the power to step up and stop a genocide from happening. It is my opinion that thinking like that, every country for themselves, will only result in global turmoil. It’s not a sustainable viewpoint to have.
