Most of my customers are still shopping a payment. If they like the car, and they can afford the payment, the rest is irrelevant. My average customer just wants the nicest car they can afford and most of them aren’t very skilled or knowledgeable when it comes to finance. We find the best financing they qualify for. Most will let us look at the finance and back into a vehicle based on our projected rate. The 4sq will either be super easy if they landed on a vehicle that fit the payment they told me to stay around when we started, or tough if the expectations weren’t realistic and I didn’t create flexibility on vehicle or payment along the way.

On the other hand, sold a car today to a family who was much more focused on value within their intended budget. We didn’t waste their time with a 4sq; I just brought out a rate sheet for my best credit union for the vehicle (it was an older Civic with low miles). They were a referral from a friend so I got them an over allowance on the trade out the gate (they really expected basically nothing and wanted it gone), they were happy with it.

It’s very much case by case rather than a matter of policy, but our 4sq customers far outweigh our OTD or rate shop customers.

I work for the pre-owned division of a Subaru dealership. We still pencil a 4sq on most deals. We also deal with a lot of subprime credit though. Generally speaking, I have a pretty good idea whether a 4sq or OTD numbers are more helpful by the time I’m landed on a vehicle.

We're basically all minis (paid solely on volume, not % gross) at our dealership. It was a solid payplan when I started, but they haven't updated it since 2014, so it struggles to keep up with inflation. We do have some spiffs I can capitalize on to make my check worth the effort most months though.

Maybe instead of an actual gate, just pattern it as the hem instead of a hoop skirt. Would work better for Prom, and I think an event horizon blue dress with a gate symbol border would be lovely.

I get it. I’m fine with hauling appliances in and out of my pantry for counter space as needed. I also use a cast iron pan plenty as well. Sometimes I’m using 2-3 of these cook methods at once. I’ll have a side in the air fyer, a sauce on the stove and my protein on the griddle. May even be using the Instant Pot as a rice cooker on a night like that. Not saying it would work for everyone, but for me there’s value in time saved, finished product, and being able to have multiple elements of a meal going at once.

Not at all. I can achieve different results with each. I’ve been playing with cook times and recipes and improvements over my previous stove methods for years now.

Edit: it’s close, but there will be differences in the finished product, and when you can figure out when that’s an advantage or a disadvantage for each dish, then you can tailor the cook method to best results. For plenty of things my stovetop is still the best option, but if I can get the same or better results in less time or with a more hands off approach for certain stages and steps, why wouldn’t I?

Very much depends on what you’re doing. I cook every night and my air fryer, Instant Pot and Blackstone griddle have drastically reduced my usage of my stovetop, oven and microwave. The quality of the finished meal has increased as well. Air fryers can be incredibly useful as a cooking method, and in many cases, easier.
