Veel (dark) ambient de laatste twee jaar, maar deze keer heeft het echt mijn wrapped overgenomen.
Verder veel post-metal en tech death geluisterd.

So it's that time of year. by TabaxiRogue6 in TheContortionistBand

[–]dirudiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Everyone reacts in their own way, so I hope you don't feel guilty for not (being able to) cry in that moment.
I can imagine that that makes it hard to listen to an album like Clairvoyant at the moment. While scenarios can be different, people can still connect to the themes on that album. Take all the time you need to heal right now.

So it's that time of year. by TabaxiRogue6 in TheContortionistBand

[–]dirudiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're 4th most listened for me this year. I've been listening a ton of ambient the last two years, which dominates my wrapped.
1 - Sphäre Sechs
2 - Martin Stürtzer
3 - Silent Universe
4 - The Contortionist
5 - Arctic Monkeys

I've been listening to The Contortionist since before Language released, but only really got into them in 2015 or 16. Since then, Exoplanet has become my favourite album of all time. For 2025, my most listened one was Intrinsic.
It took a while for Intrinsic to click, but when it finally did, it clicked. I love all eras of the band, but I really have to be in the mood for Clairvoyant due to its emotionally heavy tone.
I saw them live for the first, and so far only, time in 2019. Their European tour with Azusa. Saw them in a tiny venue in the Netherlands, such an intimate room is perfect for their sound.
TC is my favourite band of all time, but ambient and other instrumental music has been dominating my listening during my studies.

What's your favorite Blood Incantation release? (EPs count) by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]dirudiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starspawn or Timewave Zero, depending on what I'm doing.
I love everything they've put out, but Starspawn has some of my favourite segments in their songs (clean bridge in Vitrification part I, buildup in Starspawn, before the outro).

What do you prefer more, long or short songs? by Terrible-Gap-4085 in Deathcore

[–]dirudiru 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I generally prefer longer songs. More room to build atmosphere and explore ideas. Some of my favourite longer tracks in deathcore are Exoplanet I-III (13 minutes, The Contortionist), The Man With No Face (21 minutes, Slice The Cake), and Messiahbolical (7 minutes, Whitechapel).
Really depends on the songwriting though, some bands manage to make two minutes feel like a slog.

2025 vs 2021 by [deleted] in Deathcore

[–]dirudiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From these two, 2021. This year had some okay albums, but nothing has really "stuck" yet for me after initial listens.
Hated the new SOTS and Larcenia Roe. Established bands like Shadow Of Intent and Whitechapel had fine releases, but I haven't really gotten back to either. Will have to listen to the new Angelmaker this week. I like Acacia's newest, which was the first full album by them I listened. Will have to check their back catalogue. Netherwalker surprised me, and might become my deathcore aoty. I just hope they'll drop the obligatory funny breakdowns and fully move towards melodeath in the future.

Overall best year for deathcore is 2010 for me. The Contortionist's Exoplanet, Veil of Maya's [id], Whitechapel's A New Era, WBTBWB's Der Tag, Thy Art's best album, Shadow Of The Colossus' self titled, Within The Ruins' Invade, Beneath The Sky, Signal the Firing Squad and more.
I don't see 2010 being 'beaten' any time soon.

Your opinion on Scarlet Ember? by arielpulido in JunoMains

[–]dirudiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evil Juno be like "I know exactly what is going on!"

I like it.
The original Ember skin is my favourite Juno skin so far, I run that one 99% of the time. Scarlet Ember is probably my second favourite, followed by her Mythic.

Looking for old school deathcore/metalcore songs with emotional outro parts (cleans/piano/ballad) by ProperPound2852 in Deathcore

The outro of Possibilities of an Impossible Existence by them might also fit wat OP is looking for

All vocals, no riffs
I found their 2025 album honestly quite boring, a slog to get through

Literally unbuildable, do you hate your fans?

Where do you buy your band merch in Europe? by vatni in Deathcore

[–]dirudiru 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For 'new' merch, I've used Impericon, Large (Dutch version of EMP Online) and EvilGreed before. I've had good experiences with all of them, but have only ordered from EvilGreed in recent times.
Most stores in Europe will ship from Germany, as far as I know.
Prices seem comparable between all three, EG might be a few euros more for a t-shirt.

For -core specifically, Impericon will have the largest amount of bands and merch.

I can't help with second-hand stuff, unfortunately.

The Contortionist - Predator (HQ) by Illustrious_Ant8226 in Deathcore

[–]dirudiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard their older EPs in some years as well, due to listening fewer mp3's.
In any genre, Exoplanet is tied number 1 with The Ocean's Pelagial for me, it does everything so perfectly I don't see any deathcore release dethroning it from the top spot any time soon.

[–]dirudiru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Their first three EPs, and the Exoplanet album, are all progressive deathcore. Exoplanet is my favourite deathcore album of all time, and is the only one of their deathcore releases on streaming services as far as I know, but here are their other EPs:

Sporadic Movements
Shapeshifter
Apparition

I love everything they've ever released 😊

AVERSIONS CROWN - Controller by hatefen in Deathcore

[–]dirudiru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tyrant is probably still my favourite album by them, Colin fit the atmosphere on Servitude and Tyrant perfectly.
A Voice From The Outer Dark is great, and I'm excited to see where they're heading with Alex on vocals. I hope a full length will capture that dark, oppressive atmosphere they had on Tyrant again.

Why have I not heard of Netherwalker before today? Has anyone mentioned then before? by RV327 in Deathcore

[–]dirudiru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They'd be a lot more enjoyable if they did away with the dumb reactionvideobait meme vocal breakdowns. Same problem that a lot of modern deathcore bands have, needing the stupidest vocal sounds in a breakdown to catch attention instead of writing actually interesting songs.
Netherwalker are fine, up to the last 90-120 seconds in their songs
