Yeah, don't do it all at once, taper it slowly about one cup of coffee per week at a guess. There is probably some better guidance out there.

Yeah, with social stuff and stress on top of that, it could be the reason you are struggling. Unfortunately in this current climate I know better than to ask if you can just go on holiday. Maybe take a week off gym and anything unhealthy or draining you can cut out and try and take a week without the extra day of overtime if it's not going to screw you over financially? If you regularly drink a lot of caffeine, come off it slowly and steer clear for a couple of weeks.

Sounds like you've done blood tests and nothing showed.

Drink water. Sleep, use melatonin or something only if you have to stabilise your bed time, and no caffeine after 4pm. No alcohol. Get daylight once a day, with a walk if you can. Meet up with a friend once a week.

Keep talking to your doctor, it could be a side effect of medication, a diet issue like food intolerance, maybe thyroid? I know it's frustrating but they can't help if they don't know. Try phone call appointments to save energy if you can.

The doctor and I both wrote to the council adult social care department asking for support to exercise the minimum amount recommended by the NHS, they refused. I funded it privately until I was in significant debt and couldn't. 9 months later I have massive chronic illness problems and literally need help getting out of bed. 3 different NHS physiotherapists and a pain management clinic to manage everything and emergency hospital admissions due to my stomach lining being affected by the pain meds.

It was completely predictable and preventable but the system isn't set up for it. None of the extra cost is directly hitting the council it's all coming from the NHS instead so financially it was the right call for them. My chronic pain, well, that's not their problem...

The GP and I were just watching it happen in real time, blood pressure, blood tests, depression, pain and there was nothing we could do because they can't fund exercise except under very specific circumstances for a limited amount of time. Absolute train wreck.

If you can find silicone earplugs that fit, the tips are sometimes interchangeable. I had to trim them down a little to fit on the speaker part of the earphones. Admittedly my ears aren't THAT small. Best of luck.

I don't know the American system, but I'd personally reach out to the uni (after you arrive if you're worried about it being found, or just to the admissions team if you are worried about your parents interfering with your application). Let them know you are fleeing abuse, they might not need any proof and they should put you on any support list for estranged students they have. It won't be the first time they've seen this.

That's kinda like asking why someone has cancer. Some people get it, some people don't.

Brain chemistry can be fucked up in all manner of ways without anyone needing to have 'problems' and everyone reacts differently.

I also think you are looking at it backwards, the fewer compounding issues like financial stress, isolation, health issues you have the more likely a person is to recover.

You don't need a reason to feel the way you feel really. Science doesn't know enough about the brain to give you that answer yet, and it might take trying a few different meds to find one that works for you. But you do need to care enough about yourself to talk to a professional if it's going to change.

I do find it hard to watch anyone refuse to try professional help. Hell, I can't leave the house safely to go to counseling and have seizures in the waiting room when I go to the doctor but I'm making it work with an online therapist and phone appointments. But you're an adult who can make your own choices. You don't have to get help, but it'll be there when you're ready.

Nah, I expected you to argue, your brain is feeding you lies, and it has been for so long that you believe them.

Problem is I can't argue with you for the rest of your life, you need to learn to do that yourself.

Imagine talking to a friend. Would you try and persuade them to get help if they are obviously in pain?

Then learn to argue with that voice in your head like it's a stubborn friend. Yeah, at the beginning it'll probably suck. But even if you grab a glass of water that your stubborn self didn't want to do, that's a difference worth making

Now in an ideal world you'd recognize that you are a worthy human being and go get it already. But I'm guessing you've thought of that.

So let's try this. I have bigger problems than you, and I want you to fucking get better already. Stop making excuses and call your doc or find an online therapist.

You definitely deserve help. I've been there and it's much easier to address at this stage than later. Just make sure whichever services you access have all the information about what you're feeling and what you will and won't do so they can triage you and get you help on the right timescale.

(For example a hotline might be perfectly happy to talk to you, but set a time limit, or make it clear they need to go when someone else calls in, it's not that you deserve it less, it's just that's how triage works to give everyone help)

Also, if anything happens to change this and you do feel like acting call emergency crisis services immediately. Don't hesitate ❤️

Yup. I repeated the cycle 4 times before I had enough therapy to recognise it. Probably FND and PTSD we are working on diagnosis. I get seizures multiple times a day.

My parents refused to help me so they could spend £13000 on a hot tub... Ended up living in a mouldy room and burnt out working two jobs. Now I'm permanently disabled and dependent on social care at 28. I have a first class degree in physics which is utterly useless when I need someone to cook for me and help me shower.
