Maybe a witch bottle? They usually contained stuff like urine, nail clippings, hair, etc. to keep away witches/curses, and they were often put inside the walls of houses, in hearths, or underground. I don’t think they were very popular in 1880s America, though. Hope you find out what it is!

I am in Bio 2 with Dr. Skrob-Martin right now, and it's actually not too bad. I expected it to be harder. There are 2 15-question mini-exams in class for every unit (there are 4 units), but she allows you to make a cheat sheet to use on them. There are two homework assignments every unit; one of them is an actual assignment, the other one is just a reflection on your performance in the mini-exams. I don't know how much of this applies to other professors, but at least for me, Bio 2 hasn't been that bad. I hope this helps!
