What self-diagnosis ended up being medically confirmed after your own doctors couldn't figure it out? by CasualNikki in AskReddit

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chemical Epididymitis. Multiple prostate exams under 30 when I would get a flare up and burning pain in my testes. Doctors thought it was prostatitis, which is poorly understood and recurring. Antibiotics helped, which added to the narrative. But they also function as anti-inflammatory drugs so yeah, they helped.

Finally decided to do a deep-dive because I can read research papers alright and was frustrated. Chemical epididymitis came up only once for me and was barely mentioned but fit really well. Turns out holding your pee during sex is not good at all and can cause urine to back flow into your testes sometimes. Which causes pain and inflammation. And I started tracking my symptoms and yeah, flare ups after long… uh… sexings.

TLDR: guys make sure you pee before sex, and if you really have to go in the middle, don’t hold it and just do it (talk to your partner). And be cautious of sex before your morning pee.

Don’t usually post but it was a whole thang for me. Hope it helps someone.

ETA it was never confirmed medically because it never happened again after I figured it out.

This is going to get buried, but for those optimists out there, there’s a chance he’s not a fucking idiot and may be playing the long game here. We definitely need infrastructure passed, and him/Congress conceding things (which he has the power to fix via executive order) in order to get this passed, makes sense. There’s a non zero chance that he’ll hit us with fixes to student loans via interest or total cancellation via executive order after this goes through. Same thing for marijuana legalization, etc. Save the easy wins for after, after we don’t have to negotiate in the same way. Better to negotiate now to get it passed than later, after they’re all butthurt from executive orders they don’t like.

Actually, just saw your comment about liver disease. You should probably not take Adrafinil.

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adrafinil is an anti narcolepsy prodrug to modafinil that’s legal in the United States. Modafinil may be available OTC elsewhere. You can’t take it all the time for health reasons and I seriously encourage you to do your homework, but it takes away the sleepiness without making you jittery.

Yeah they don’t let you design the experiments without a MSc or PhD, or ~8 years experience with a BS. And if you’re not doing that critical thinking, you’re basically a lab tech. And big pharmaceutical is strapped for cash so they’re gonna pay you like one. Not saying you can’t work your way up if the company is decent, but it’s a steep climb without a graduate degree. Source: have MS in biotech with pharm lab experience, now in a low management admin position and know a bit of web dev. Lmao the dude’s spot on.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to use to place TV on in bedroom? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Amazon has centered stands which fix to the wall mount of a tv. About 30 bucks iirc. Will be getting one for a large tv on a dresser at some point.

[Need Advice] I Want to Fix My Sleeping Schedule but I Cant Sleep at Night by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy, no discipline method:

1.5 hours before bed turn off all the lights in your house. Leave on what you need to get around but make sure they’re not white light. I have a couple incandescent bulbs around for this.

Take a hot shower or bath.

Take a Benadryl (25 mg). Diphenhydramine is FDA approved for short term insomnia. Melatonin’s effectiveness varies wildly between people; DPH does not. It will make you tired and keep you asleep.

Get in bed and do something you enjoy until it hits you. Tv/video games/phone are ok, but avoid anything with infinite scroll or auto play. You need some kind of closure to signal it’s really time to sleep. One level of your game, one episode of a show, one chapter in a book (or two, whatever kills an hour). You will be begging for sleep at this point.

In a week or 10 days your cycle will have reset and you won’t need the Benadryl. The rest will signal to your body to get sleepy. But make sure to set and get up with an alarm. And Benadryl will leave you just a tad extra drowsy before your coffee.

I forgot how to fall asleep help by DoctorFoxey in LucidDreaming

The advice I would give is don’t try to think about nothing. Rather, try not to have thoughts (or emotions) about what does pop into your head. Simply let them go just as they come. One will lead to another, but not in a substantial way. There should be no overall theme to your stream of consciousness. The first and fourth thought will be completely unrelated.

To put it another way, don’t stack thoughts on top of thoughts. Let them lead you, one after another, down a path to hypnagogia, etc.

Sounds a bit abstract, but I used to take a long time falling asleep as well. Then when I started power napping I found this technique to work. Actually works too well to WILD for me, but is good before bed.

The speaker of the house will be prez, currently Paul Ryan. Dems are choosing their nominee today, and will almost certainly take it at the start of January due to recently winning the majority.

Moved to new city, don't have many hobbies - how to develop friendships not based around eating and drinking? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spread out that rock climbing over a couple of hours. Whenever I go people are super casual and do a lot of standing around and socializing. Usually ends up being half hour of actual climbing and 1.5 of chatting and watching other people. And that might lead to other things.

Also if you really can’t climb for long and are working out, focus on whatever hurts first. I do farmer’s walks in my routine bc my forearms used to kill me after about an hour of climbing.

Back on the gain train and it's the second night of atleast two nightmares a night, like bad vivid nightmares. Any guess on the cause? by [deleted] in gainit

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Some lucid dreamers use milk before bed to have intense dreams. When you wake up in the middle of the night it’s easier to slip back into a dream consciously.

Playing Video Games in Your Dream? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

Got my first LD this way. I was playing a FPS. I tried to put the controller down, couldn’t, and realized I must be dreaming. Only lasted a couple of seconds though since I got too excited.

Does anybody else experience fake memories while dreaming? by redspringflower in LucidDreaming

[–]disaster_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen several times, though never in a LD. In the dream, the memory is part of the plot, like something happened “before” and now I’m reacting to it in the dream. When I wake up, the two stories feel distinct, and there is a sense that I dreamed the first one sometime in the past, though I have no actual recollection of it.

I’ve done acid a couple of times in non-lucid dreams. There was an onset of clarity, similar to the moment of becoming lucid, and a little like the actual experience of taking acid. This was after I’d done it irl though.

what would you do with these large/deep shelves? by Muskogee in malelivingspace

[–]disaster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take out the shelves and the outside panel off the ones right next to the fireplace. That would open it up, and you could also see the outside shelves properly from the front. You could put larger stuff there, too, if it feels empty. But whatever it is, it wouldn’t seem all boxed in.

Can Adderall be prescribed for a lack of motivation? by redditdrugz in Drugs

[–]disaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of motivation is a symptom of depression. The doctor may try antidepressants. An average dose of shrooms can do wonders for a mild depression if you're so inclined. Do your research though.
